    Re: My 1987 Seattle Mariners

MULTITUDE OF HITS CAN'T WIN THE SERIES

The Mariners managed to get 10 hits today, but could only get 1 run out of the effort. Three of those hits came from Mickey Brantley who was 3 of 4 on the day. Langston pitched very well in his first complete game of the season only giving up three hits. But, the A's were able to get two runs out of those three hits. With this series over, the A's are of to Houston for a series against the Astros and the Mariners will go to L.A. to face the Dodgers. Game 1 starters will be Moore(Seattle) and Belcher(L.A.).

      Re: My 1987 Seattle Mariners

LINE UP SWITCH HELPS AND DOESN'T

Bats still seem to be quiet for the Mariners this year. There are a couple guys batting well, but for the most part we need more offense. We moved some guys around this game and it didn't work for most people. But, Jim Presley was thankful for the move up in the line-up. He was moved to the second spot in the order, and promptly went 3 for 4 with a homerun and 2 RBI. Presley has likely solidified his spot and is now keeping Edgar and Corona down in AAA for now. John Moses continues to hit well in pinch hitting roles and will likely be starting soon. Brantley's 0 for 4 is not good. He has been one of our most reliable hitters until today. For the Dodgers, Steve Sax's 3 of 5 and 2 run day was what got us. If we can't keep him of the bases, it's going to be a long series. Game 2 of the series will be tomorrow with Morgan(Seattle) facing off against Welch(L.A.).

        Re: My 1987 Seattle Mariners

TIMING IS EVERYTHING, GREAT PITCHING HELPS TOO.

Harold Reynolds hit a 2-run triple in the second, and that's all the Mariners would need to win. Morgan scored on the triple to help get his first win of the season. Guerrero, who had the RBI SAC Fly earlier in the game, ground into a double play in the bottom of the 8th with runners on the corners. Wilkinson came in, in the 9th, walked one and struck out three to end the game. Tomorrow's game will decide the series winner. On the hill for the Mariners will be Guetterman and taking the mound for the Dodgers will be Valenzuela.

20 INNING MARATHON ON JACKIE ROBINSON NIGHT

Everyone was wearing the #42 jersey today, and they apparently didn't want it to end. Runs were hard to get for both teams today and timing played a crucial role. Down 2-1 in the top of the 8th, Presley hit a solo shot to tie the game. Both teams threw some hits in during extra play, but neither team could plate a run. A costly overthrow in the top of the 20th put a quick John Moses on second, and Harold Reynolds singled up the middle to bring him home. The Dodgers could not answer and that would be the game. The Mariners will have tomorrow off, before going back home to play the Rangers. Starters for the opening of that series should be Whitt(Rangers) vs. Bankhead(Mariners).

            Re: My 1987 Seattle Mariners

Chris Taylor, is on this roster for some reason. He got missed, oh well. So, instead of complaining or doing anything crazy, I traded him. If he becomes something, eh. So without any further explaining:

Chris Taylor(SS, 24 years old, 69 OVR, C pot) was traded for Joey Meyer(1B, 26 years old, 69 OVR, C pot). Alvin Davis has been struggling. It was time to bring someone in to maybe help get some at bats off. Maybe this will be the push he needs to get back to our Alvin Davis.

RANGERS CONTINUE TO HIT, SCORE 7 TO BEAT MARINERS

The Texas Rangers came in to today's game as a top three in team hits this season. They only have a 2-8 record because their pitching cannot keep up. They continued that style of play today outscoring the Mariners 7-5. In three of the Rangers losses they have posted 11 hits or more, so it was no surprise when they came in and got 14 today. The Mariners seem to be just the opposite, low scoring and great pitching. But, that didn't happen today. Bankhead lasted only 3 innings and giving up 5 ER. Hopefully our pitching will come back around and we can keep scoring theses 5 runs a game. Only time will tell. Joey Meyers first game as a Mariner saw him get a single that brought in 2 runs. Tomorrow's game 2 will feature Jeffcoat(Rangers) and our ace Langston(Mariners).

                Re: My 1987 Seattle Mariners

                LANGSTON + 4 RUN 7TH = MARINERS WIN

Mariners Ace, Mark Langston, brings the hot hitting Rangers down to Earth. Only allowing 5 hits, he was able to keep the Rangers from anything good on the bases. Presley hit his third home-run in as many games. Since moving up to the second spot in the line-up he has been on fire. Diaz and Moses, our 8th and 9th hitters, were able to score 2 runs each. Now if only Alvin Davis had gotten a hit or two, this game would have been perfect. But, sitting around .500 we have to take whatever wins we can get. The rubber match tomorrow will have Hough(Rangers) going up against Moore(Mariners).
