King Felix DOMINATES as Mariners avoid Sweep with 10-0 victory!

SEATTLE- Wanting to avoid a 4 game sweep at the hands of the Texas Rangers, the Mariners turned to their ace. Felix Hernandez(7-0) dominated today racking up a Career high 18 Strikeouts and only allowing 4 hits. The Mariners avoided a sweep with Hernandez's performance.

"He's the King for a reason." Joked Mariners First Basemen Richie Sexson.

"Felix is a guy this team can count on." Mariners Rookie Second basemen Joey Watson stated. He's having a Rookie of the Year himself.

"We would of loved to of gotten the sweep but it's a longshot when Felix Hernandez is on the mound. " Rangers Manager Ron Washington stated.

Kevin Millwood took the ball for Texas(17-19) today and did not fair well against the bats of Seattle. He pitched 6 innings giving up 13 hits and 6 runs.

The Mariners and Rangers wrap up their 4 game series today as the Rangers(17-19) will head back to Arlington for a 3 Game series with another Division Rival, the Oakland Athletics(18-18) before hosting Seattle for another 3 Game series on Monday in Texas.

"It's a little break but we'll be in Texas next week." Mariners Right Fielder Willie Bloomquist stated. Bloomquist has really emerged as a star this year in Right Field.

The Mariners(24-12) will stay in Seattle and get ready for the White Sox(16-19).

PITTSBURGH PIRATES (23-12) VS ATLANTA BRAVES (16-19)

Braves fall to Pirates 2-1 after intense Pitching Duel in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH- In a battle of two great National League Pitchers tonight, the Pirates and Braves opened their 4 game series. Both Ace's took the mound tonight as "The Chief" Freddy Garcia(5-2) battled future Hall of Famer John Smoltz(2-2).

The battle lasted majority of the game with a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the 3rd until Mark Texiera smacked in an RBI for a Braves 1-0 lead.

It was 1-0 until the bottom of the 6th inning when the N.L leading hitter Jason Bay smacked a John Smoltz fastball over the Right field wall to put his Pirates up 2-1 to the delight of the crowd.

"I knew it was gone as soon as I saw how high it was." Said John Smoltz. "I should of thrown him the curveball but I shook it off. That's my fault."

Smoltz finished the game strong going 7 innings and getting 12 K's.

"I got alot of respect for John (Smoltz). Hands down one of the best in the game. " Said Jason Bay.

Bay, the National League leading hitter is really making a case for himself as the MVP this year. He has done a phenomenal job helping the Pirates to a 24-12 record.

"It's not all me. We have alot of great guys in this clubhouse. Mike Piazza, Freddy Sanchez, Freddy Garcia, James Watterson. The list goes on."

Freddy Garcia was amazing tonight. Garcia pitched 7 strong innings striking out 13 and only allowing 1 run.

"I'm the ace for a reason. I need to prove that every game. This Club has alot of faith in me to do that." Said Freddy Garcia.

"Freddy is the ace. He's my #1 guy. Even if he gets rattled, I know it's just a matter of time before he's back on track." Said Pirates Manager Shawn Fulton.

Fulton has done an amazing job in his first year with the Pirates leading his team to a 24-12 record.

The Pirates are leading the N.L Central but still alot of baseball left. General Manager Neal Huntington is very happy with his Ball club.

Why Jason Bay Needs to Stay in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh,PA- The Pirates are proving critics wrong this year jumping out to a 24-12 record, tied for second best record in the Majors with Seattle (24-12) and behind the defending Champions Boston Red Sox (25-13).

All eyes are on veteran Jason Bay who is really making a case for MVP. The 29 year old Captain is only on a 1 year deal with Pittsburgh and his contract have been one of the most talked about stories this season.

"I'm not focusing on that right now. My focus is to get through this year and help this team with the World Series." Jason Bay stated in an earlier interview.

It's no secret Jason has also stated he plans on to resign with the Club should the right Contract becomes avaliable. General Manager Neal Huntington has made it clear he plans to retain Bay at the end of the year.

"He's a big part of our success. Letting him walk would be just obsured."

The Pirates and Bay are rolling along in May as they look towards the Post Season. It's no secret that the Pirates would need to retain Jason Bay if they plan to be a contender in the years to come...

SEATTLE MARINERS(24-12) VS CHICAGO WHITE SOX (16-19)

South Siders get embarrassed in Seattle 21-4!

SEATTLE- There are no words to describe the slaughter of the White Sox tonight. The Mariners pounded Chicago 21-4 with offense that looked like it was out of a video game. The Mariners started the blowout in the bottom of the 1st off a Grand Slam by Rookie D.H Andre Dyson.

            The Mariners wouldn't stop there.

"I have no words for tonights game. It's an embarrassment." White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen' stated. He hung his head in shame.

"I don't want to talk about it. I have no comment." White Sox Pitcher Javier Vasquez stated. He gave up 14 hits 11 runs and only got 3 strikeouts.

"It's pathetic. It really is. We're professionals and we lose a game like that? Pathetic." White Sox Catcher A.J Pierzynski stated. He had a Home Run in the game. Not that it really mattered.

Rookie Rick Thomas was very good tonight. He pitched 6 innings giving up 2 runs and 2 hits but struck out 14 batters really making a case for himself for potential Rookie of the year.

"I felt confident out there. My fastball was in the triple digits and I knew Chicago would make me pay if I made any mistakes." Thomas stated.

"I felt good with Rick out there on the mound. He's a young quality pitcher and I knew we were in good hands." Mariners Manager Brian Carmichael stated.

The White Sox will lick their wounds tonight before taking the field tomorrow.

"It's back to the drawing board for us. We have to figure out how to get past this and take a look at ourselves." White Sox Third Baseman Joe Crede stated.

PITTSBURGH PIRATES (24-12) VS ATLANTA BRAVES (16-20)

Pirates blow lead in middle innings as Braves pull off 5-3 win!

PITTSBURGH- The Pirates had a 3-1 lead in the top of the 6th inning. Young right hander Ian Snell was pitching solid baseball.

Until Chipper Jones stepped in...The rest is history.

With one pitch, Jones belted a deep flyball over the Center Field wall as Nate McLouth just watched it go over his head to the dismay of the Pirates fans.

The Braves would put up 4 runs in the 6th inning to take a 5-3 lead and they would never surrender the lead.

Ian Snell lasted 6 innings giving up all 5 runs 9 hits but got 12 K's.

"It's one of those games. You wish you could take alot of pitches back." Pirates Ian Snell stated.

Snell is really up and down this year posting a 6.20 ERA after his performance tonight.

"Ian (Snell) is still our guy. He's #2 for a reason. We have alot of faith in him and he's been great for us all year." Pirates Manager Shawn Fulton stated.

The Pirates would try to rally back in the closing innings but Atlanta (17-20)
would hold. Young Rafael Soriano would get his 7th Save of the year.

Tim Hudson AKA "The Bulldog" also pitched 6 innings giving up 9 hits and 3 runs. He also picked up 9 Strikeouts.

"He's a very good pitcher. The things he does are just amazing." Pirates 1st Basemen Adam LaRoache stated. He had his 9th HR of the year.

Why Pittsburghs "Cinderella" Story ends at Midnight..

Pittsburgh,PA- The Pirates 2008 Season is to say the least, a Cinderella Story. The Franchise has not seen playoffs since 1992 when they were a member of the N.L East. The Bucs have not seen the World Series since 1979 which was also the last time they won a Pennant.
Now as a member of the Central Division, Pittsburgh's 2008 Season is something of a fairy tale. The Pirates currently are in 1st place (24-13) and look to capture their first Central Division Title over a struggling Division.
But as good as the Pirates look on paper and from what we've seen this season with Jason Bay as the National Leagues leading hitter, the Pirates can contend with anyone. However everyone has a weakness. Everyone has an Achillies.

                The Pirates?

                Pitching.

The Bucs Bullpen is a mess. Quality starts from Ace Freddy Garcia, Ian Snell, Zach Duke, and Paul Maholm sure. But #5 Starter Tom Gorzelanny? A hot mess.

The Pirates pitching ranks 26th overall in ERA alone. Garcia (4.33) Duke (4.64) Snell (6.20)

Pittsburghs Bullpen ranks 21st in Hits allowed. 17th in runs, and DEAD LAST in giving up the most Home Runs (64) across the Majors. But there is some ray of light, The Pirates Bullpen ranks 2nd overall in Strikeouts(423) behind Seattle(442)

How far Pittsburgh will go this Season depends on their Bullpen. Even if they win the Central and make the World Series, the clock will strike midnight. Pitching should be the main priority for the Front Office this Offseason..

Sexson's 1st innings Grand Slam rockets Mariners to 11-9 win despite late inning comeback by Chicago

SEATTLE- After last night's 21-4 slaughter, Chicago came in ready to play and put the past in the past. Chicago would encounter the same formula by Seattle as last night as Richie Sexson blasted a Mark Buerhle fastball over the wall for a Grand Salami giving Seattle a 4-0 lead in just the first inning.

The Mariners would cruise from that point on. The White Sox would threaten in later innings pulling within one run 6-5 in the top of the 7th. The South Siders would be on the right path with 2 Homeruns by Joe Crede. His 7th of the year.

Seattle's Miguel Batista(5-2) would give up 10 hits but stayed strong enough to get 6 K's. He also gave up 3 runs.

"It was an up and down game for me for sure." Batista stated. "I'm happy that our team played hard to get the win."

Mark Buerhle pitched 5 innings getting 7 strikeouts and allowed 6 runs. Including that Grand Slam bomb by Mariners Richie Sexson.

"It's a tough game. Going down 4 runs in the 1st really put pressure on us." White Sox Buerhle stated.

"It was a hiccup. We battled back in the later innings for sure. We gave our guys a chance to win but fell short. We need to figure out how to close games." White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen' stated.

The White Sox(16-21) continue to struggle in 2008 dropping 4 in a row.

"It's not a good feeling at all. Losing. It sucks." Star Jermaine Dye stated. He stood in front of his locker with a hoodie on.

"Losing 4 in a row this early is not a good thing. We're playing for the World Series. That's our goal. Being in a slump is no fun." Rookie Tyron Grimm stated. He was called up from Triple A Charlotte before the Seattle series.

"We're in a funk and we can't get out. We need to figure this out and quick." A.J Pierzynski stated.

The Mariners(26-12) are picking up momentum winning 3 straight and have a chance to sweep the White Sox(16-21) tomorrow afternoon.

"It's a small winning streak for us but our focus is one game at a time." Mariners Manager Brian Carmichael stated.

Paul Maholm dominates as Pirates beat Braves 3-2!

PITTSBURGH- Future Hall of Famer Tom Glavine(1-3) is having an inconsistent year for Atlanta. He's 1-3 in 9 games. His ERA is 3.38.

But the veteran pitched a solid 7 innings giving up 9 hits including a 3 run blast by Mike Piazza in the bottom of the 3rd. Glavine also got 9 strikeouts.

On the other side, Paul Maholm(8-0) having a very solid season and could push for a Cy Young Award.

The young Left hander pitched a masterful 7 innings only giving up 4 hits 0 runs and a high of 14 Strikeouts.

Paul Maholm is a force to be reckoned with. His 8-0 record leads the majors as well as his 88 strikeouts leads the National League. The Pirates are pleased.

"He's a stud pitcher. I've worked with him alot this year and he's showing the league exactly how dangerous he can be." Pirates Skipper Shawn Fulton stated.

"Shawn and the Pitching Staff have really worked with my mechanics during practice. I owe them alot." Maholm stated.

The Braves(17-21) attempted a comeback in the 9th down 3-0 but Rookie Sensation Tanashi Sasaki hung tough and picked up his 12th Save of the year.

"He's a solid Closer. Even with runners in scoring position, nothing rattles him." Pirates Second Baseman Freddy Sanchez stated.

The Pirates(25-13) will wrap up their series with the Braves tomorrow afternoon before starting a 6 game road trip against N.L Central Division Rivals, the struggling Cardinals(15-24) and even worse Cubs(14-23).

                      May 11,2008 (HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!)

SEATTLE MARINERS(26-12) VS CHICAGO WHITE SOX(16-21)

White Sox continue to struggle as Mariners SWEEP Chicago with 17-0 victory!

SEATTLE- Happy Mothers Day. The White Sox(16-22) continue to struggle losing to the Mariners 17-0.
The most bizzare part was that Seattle's Bats were alive sending Chicago's baseballs over the outfield wall making it rain at Safeco Field.

The most dissappointing stat today? Chicago only managed 2 Strikeouts over a period of 5 Pitchers. 2.

White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen really had his hands full today.

"Our Bullpen was overworked today. I used 5 Pitchers in the game today. No matter what I would throw at Seattle they just kept knocking it out of the park." Guillen' stated.

The White Sox have lost 5 in a row.

The Mariners(27-12) have simply dominated Chicago over the 3 game Series. The Mariners Bullpen (Jarrod Washburn and George Sherrill) have combined a no hitter today keeping Chicago out of the hit collumn and run collumn for that matter.

The same could NOT be said for Chicago. The Mariners bats pounded Chicago's Bullpen with 24 hits 17 runs and PLENTY of Homeruns.

Jose Contereras the starter didn't last long. He lasted 2 innings giving up 6 hits and 4 runs.

He refused to comment as he sat at his locker head down.

"He's really beating himself up." Said White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen'. "We all are. Very upsetting series."

The Seattle Star today was #4 Starter Jarrod Washburn(5-2).

He was simply flawless today. Pitched 7 innings 0 hits 0 runs 18 K's. He really owned the White Sox.

"I was on my stuff today. I knew I needed a good start cause Chicago has alot of good hitters that could capitalize on mistakes." Washburn stated.

"He was our guy today." Manager Brian Carmichael stated. "Washburn is a solid anchor in our rotation. Very proud of him and our team today. We really hit the ball well."

                      That's an understatement.

24 hits today is just an insane stat. The Mariners bats have really come alive this year.

"We're hitting the ball well. Our coaches have done an amazing job this year with us. " Mariners Right Fielder Willie Bloomquist stated.

He took over Right Field after Adam Jones injury at the start of the year.

"It's really insane to look back at it honestly. 24 hits? Wow." Mariners Captain Richie Sexson stated.

The Mariners combined for 15 Homeruns and 48 RBI's over the 3 game Series with Chicago.

The Mariners(27-12) will board the plane and head to Arlington for a 3 game series with the Texas Rangers(18-21). The same team that gave them trouble at Safeco Field last week taking 3 of 4 from the M's.

Rocking a 4 game win streak, Seattle has all the momentum heading to Texas.

"Texas is on our mind now. One game at a time." Mariners Third Baseman Adrian Beltre stated.

                        May 12,2008

PITTSBURGH PIRATES(25-13) VS ATLANTA BRAVES (17-21)

Braves blow 5-1 lead as Pirates rally in late innings for come from behind WIN!

PITTSBURGH- The Braves held a 4 run lead until the bottom of the 6th.

Rookie Right Fielder James Watterson stepped into the box. His eyes stared down the Pitcher Chuck James. One fastball later...

The Pirates were starting their 5 run inning to mount the comeback. Wattersons Home Run started it all. After that blast, MVP Candidate and Captain Jason Bay stepped in.

                        The rest is history.

The Buc's popped off 5 runs to mount the comeback.

"We have alot of heart. We keep fighting as long as the game is still going. This team has no quit." Manager Shawn Fulton stated.

"We know what our goal is and we're hungry to make it happen." Captain Jason Bay stated. Expect Pittsburgh to resign him in the Offseason.

Braves left hander Chuck James lasted 5 innings giving up 4 hits and 4 runs with just 4 Strikeouts.

"Rough game. No excuses." James stated.

For the Pirates, young left hander Zach Duke struggled himself today as well. He pitched 4 innings giving up 9 hits 5 runs and got 5 K's himself.

"He's young. He's gonna have those games. It's just baseball." Pirates Catcher Mike Piazza stated with a smirk.

Piazza, also on a one year deal has been phenomenal for his new club this year.

The Pirates(26-13) will start their 6 day road trip against Division Rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals(15-25) who have been struggling this year mainly due to injuries. Star Pitcher Adam Wainwright is on a 4 week D.L with a finger contusion.

The Pirates will then head to Chicago for a 3 game series with the Cubs(15-23) who are also having a bad year. The Cubbies are still in "Rebuild mode" even with the offseason signing of Kenny Lofton. The 40 year old has just 1 Homerun and 19 RBI's in 141 AB's.

It appears the "Kenny Lofton Experiment" is not paying off well.

With the injury to Adam Wainwright, St.Louis is expected to start Rookie Don Layne in his place. The young left hander has just been called up from Triple A Memphis.

He didn't come alone. Left Fielder Jonathan Hayward and Short Stop Hayden Haynes also got promoted with the injuries for the 2006 World Series Champions.

With the call ups, St.Louis will look to knock off Pittsburgh.

SEATTLE MARINERS(27-12) VS TEXAS RANGERS (18-21)

Welcome to The Show Tom Hubbman! Rangers knock off Mariners 3-2!

ARLINGTON- The Texas Rangers had an ace up their sleeve before Seattle landed in Dallas.

That ace was Tom Hubbman. A top Rangers prospect who was in Triple A Oklahoma at the start of the year has really blossomed in the Farm System.

Hubbman got the call that morning Seattle landed. He was also told he would be making his Major League Debut that day.

"It was surreal. I had butterflies in my stomach. This was something I've been dreaming about since I was a kid." Said Hubbman the new Rangers Pitcher.

The real surreal part however was Tom Hubbman's performance against the red hot bats of AL West Rival the Mariners.

Tom Hubbman was phenomenal in his debut. He went 8 innings giving up just 4 hits and 2 runs but picked up 15 Strikeouts in his debut.

That also includes striking out the dangerous Ichiro. Three times. Ichiro was 0-4 in todays game.

"He's one of the best. I mean that. It was an honor to shake his hand after that game." Hubbman stated.

Carlos Silva(3-2) pitched 6 innings but got rattled for 8 hits and 3 runs. Also picked up 7 K's.

Young Rangers Second Baseman Ian Kinsler got the party started with 2 triples.

"He's a great player. Very fun to watch.Love watching him play." Rangers Skipper Ron Washington stated.

Washington deserves credit for the curveballs. The Rangers(19-21) have beaten Seattle 4 of the last 5 games.

                          Thats impressive.

"It's important when you're chasing a team like Seattle who's also in the same Division that you throw curveballs and have aces up your sleeves."
                          Ron Washington stated.

                          Todays curveball was Tom Hubbman.

"Washington had the idea. I listened." General Manager Jon Daniels stated.

"They really deserve credit. Always keeping us on our toes." Mariners Brian Carmichael stated.

The Mariners will have a card up their sleeve themselves tomorrow when King Felix(7-0) takes the mound.

PITTSBURGH PIRATES(26-13) VS ST. LOUIS CARDINALS (15-25)

                            PIRATES RALLY FOR COMEBACK WIN!!

ST.LOUIS- Relief Pitcher Don Layne took the start tonight for the injured Adam Wainwright, And it wasn't pretty. The Cards were down 3-0 in just the first inning.

Then the struggling Tom Gorzelanny(1-4) took the mound. We all know how this story goes.

Gorzelanny was terrible like he has been all season.

Gorzelanny lasted 3 innings giving up 11 hits 11 runs 2 walks and NO STRIKEOUTS.

The Cardinals had a 11-4 lead in the middle innings.

Then the Pirates went to work. The Bucs mounted a 7 run comeback to take the lead 13-12 in the 9th inning.

Then it was time for St.Louis to meet Tanashi Sasaki. The Japanese sensation picked up his 14th save of the year.

"He's really our backbone in that Bullpen. We all feel confident when #23 walks out." Pirates Skipper Shawn Fulton stated.

The Pirates look to keep the momentum going as they have now won 3 in a row.

Adam LaRoache got the comeback going as he had 6 RBI's.

                            WP: Romulo Sanchez(1-0)

PITTSBURGH- Its no secret that the weakest link for the Pittsburgh Pirates this year has been Pitching.

The Club overall is ranked 26th in Pitching. The Pirates have also given up the most Home Runs across the league. Today General Manager Neal Huntington has made some moves to bolster his Bullpen.

SEATTLE MARINERS(27-13) VS TEXAS RANGERS (19-21)

KING FELIX DOMINATES TEXAS IN COMPLETE GAME 6-0 VICTORY!

ARLINGTON- Last night Texas threw Seattle a curveball. A Rookie Tom Hubbman who kept Seattle's bats quiet for most of night.

Tonight, Seattle throws Texas a curve ball of their own. The King.

                                Felix Hernandez(8-0)

Hernandez dominated the Rangers tonight pitching a complete game picking up 16 strikeouts and only allowing 3 hits. DOMINANCE. Hernandez shut out Texas making them pay for their sins.

"He's hands down the best Pitcher in Baseball right now. The things he does, no one else can do." Mariners Manager Brian Carmichael stated.

"Felix is the guy who comes out and makes teams pay. Hands down the best in the game." First Basemen Richie Sexson stated.

"Everytime he takes the mound i'm watching him. He's an amazing player. I'm glad I don't face him." Joked Adrian Beltre the Mariners 3rd Baseman.

"My mindset is simple. I go out there to win. I feel confident I'll always get the job done." Felix Hernandez stated.

"It's always hard gameplanning for Felix (Hernandez). The guy is a CY Young candidate everytime he's out there." Rangers Skipper Ron Washington stated.

Kevin Millwood(3-4) struggled vs the Seattle's bats. 10 hits allowed, 3 runs, only 3 K's.

"Seattle is a tough team to face. That lineup is loaded with power." Millwood stated.

It looked to be a pitching duel with a 1-0 Seattle in the 7th until Adrian Beltre smacked his 14th Home Run of the year.

"We wanted to give Felix a cushion and knew 1-0 wouldn't cut it. I knew I had to go out there and hit the ball as hard as I could." Adrian Beltre stated.

The Texas Rangers(19-22) were completely helpless against Seattle.

"It was one of those games where you can't get anything going. " Ian Kinsler stated.

"Against a Pitcher like that, you're not going to play very well." Hank blalock stated.

Felix Hernandez(8-0) is a top candidate for the CY Young. He leads the entire league with Complete Games(4) Shutouts(3) Strikeouts(112) And Innings (69) .

The Mariners(28-13) and Rangers(19-22) will wrap up their 3 Game Series tomorrow afternoon in Arlington.
