Re: MLB 09 The Show: Girardi takes over for Torre

    Tuesday, May 19th, 2008. Orioles 3 Yankees 2 10 Innings

The Yankees opened up a 3 game series against the Orioles but could not come up with the victory.

The Orioles pounded out 15 hits but only pushed across 3 runs thanks to grounding into 4 double plays. Aubrey Huff went 3-5 as did Nick Markakis. Brian Burres went 7.0 and only allowed 4 hits and 1 run. George Sherrill got his 7th save of the season.

The Yankees got a rather pleasant surprise as Carl Pavano finally pitched a game where he didn't get shelled. He lasted 6.0 and only gave up 1 run despite allowing 10 hits. Joba Chamberlain took the loss allowing 3 hits and a run in 1.1 innings.

Game 2 of the series will be Radhames Liz vs Darrell Rasner

    Wednesday May 20th, 2008. Orioles 3 Yankees 4

The Yankees rebounded from their series opening loss and took game 2 thanks to Jason Giambi's walk off single in the bottom of the 9th. Giambi came up with Johnny Damon on 3rd and 2 outs, and took a 3-0 fastball through the right side, through the shift, for a base hit to right. Gaimbi finished 3-5 with a HR and 2 RBI's. Johnny Damon went 2-5 with 2 RBI's as well. Darrell Rasner went 5.1 allowing 6 Hits and 2 ER's. Kyle Farnsworth went 2 innings in relief to get the win.

For the Orioles, Aubrey Huff continues to kill Yankee pitching, going 3-4 with 2 solo HR's. Nick Markakis went 2-4 with an RBI. Greg Aquino (1-1) took the loss in relief of Radhames Liz.

The Yankees also made a move, promoting Dan Giese (2-0, 1.85) to the Majors and sending down Billy Traber (0-0, 16.88) Giese will serve as a spot starter out of the bullpen and will start game 3 of the series to give the Yankee starters an extra day off.

Game 3 will see Dan Giese vs Jeremy Guthrie

Re: MLB 09 The Show: Girardi takes over for Torre

      Thursday, May 21st, 2008. Orioles 3 Yankees 7

The Yankees won the finally of a 3 game set against the Orioles.

Baltimore's Nick Markakis went nuts in the series finishing 8-13 with 4 RBI's. Jeremy Guthrie took the loss and is now 1-7 with a 9.21 ERA. Not sure how much longer the Orioles can afford to keep him in the rotation. Catcher Ramon Hernandez is doing his best Ted Williams impression. He went 2-4 and is hitting .386 for the season.

The Yankees have now won 13 of their last 15 games and will head into their first inter-league match up against the 1st place Phillies.

Jason Giambi went 2-3 with an RBI as the Yankees rested Cabrera, Matsui, and Posada. Dan Giese pitched well is his first start of the season, lasting 4.1 innings allowing 9 hits and 3 ER's.

The Yankees are now 4 games behind the Red Sox in the A.L. East, and 1.5 games behind the White Sox in the A.L Wildcard race. The Sox will face the Mets in their first inter league match up.

The Yankees opened up their first inter league match up with a win against the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3.

Brett Myers pitched well, going 6.0 innings, allowing 4 runs, none of them earned, and only 3 hits. Tom Gordon gave up 3 runs in only 0.1 innings and his ERA is now 6.92. Pat Burrell hit 2 solo HR's and Chase Utley added a solo HR as well.

The Yankees were led by A-Rod, who hit his 11th HR and 3 RBI's. Bobby Abreu and Johnny Damon had 2 hits each. Andy Pettitte pitched 7.0 innings, allowing 5 hits and 3 ER for his 5th win of the season. LaTroy Hawkins pitched 2 innings for his first save of the year.

Red hot Phil Hughes (6-1 1.72) will face Jamie Moyer (1-2 6.26) in game 2.

Hideki Matsui is below the Mendoza line (.194) and may end up on the trading block if he can't turn it around.

Re: MLB 09 The Show: Girardi takes over for Torre

          Saturday, May 23rd, 2008. Phillies 1 Yankees 4

The Yankees continued their red hot home stand, beating the Phillies 4-1 behind Phil Hughes. Hughes is 5-0 with a 0.53 ERA in May and 7-1 with a 1.64 ERA for the season.

A-Rod went deep off Jamie Moyer (1-3, 6.36) for a 2-run shot in the 1st inning and the Yankees never looked back. Mariano Rivera picked up his 11th save of the year.

The lone bright spot for the Phillies was Ryan Howard's solo HR off Hughes, his 9th of the season.

The Yankees finish their 10 game home stand on Sunday as Ian Kennedy (5-1, 3.12) will face Kyle Kendrick (2-2, 4.19).

Yeah a big graphical jump from 8 but the game came into its own the next year with the release of 10. Upgraded menus and custom cameras.

Re: MLB 09 The Show: Girardi takes over for Torre

              Sunday, May 24th, 2008. Phillies 0 Yankees 7

The Yankees finished their 10 game home stand 9-1 as they defeated the Phillies on Glove Day 7-0. The Yankees are 17-6 in May and are 1 game behind the Red Sox, who are riding a 5 game losing streak.

The Phillies couldn't get anything going against Ian Kennedy, who threw 6 shut out innings and only gave up 3 hits.

The Yankees offense was led by Wilson Betemit, who was 2-4 with a solo HR, Melky Cabrera was 3-4 with a 3-R HR, and Jorge Posada added a 2-R HR as well.

The Yankees will start a 7 game road trip Monday night in Texas. The Rangers are in last place in the A.L. West with a record of 18-26. They are 2nd in batting with a .294 average but their pitching is dreadful as they are last in the A.L. with a 5.10 ERA. After a 3 game with series in Texas, the Yankees will fly to Cleveland for a 4 game series.

Re: MLB 09 The Show: Girardi takes over for Torre

IF you're into the older PS3 games I think the series reached it's zenith with '12. Some think the hitting is too hard I like it. One glaring problem which they eventually sorted out was the extremely high bouncing foul ball around the plate. Seemed like it reached the upper deck.

All the cut scenes were present and it wasn't a rush to the next pitch. You wanted to move it along all you had to do was press X. Game started to feel floaty to me with '13.

Funny you mention that because I was looking at some videos of MLB 12 yesterday on YouTube. I got MLB 12 late in the year and didn't really get into it as much as I would have liked. From what I played it did seem like a solid game. Maybe I will make that my next franchise.

The Yankees kicked off their 7 game road trip with a crazy battle down in the Lone Star State. I have included the box score.

The Texas Rangers are a great offensive team and a terrible pitching team and that exact scenario played out in today's game.

The Yankees pulled into a 1st place tie with the Red Sox as they lost their game against the Twins.

                      Tuesday May 26th, 2008 Yankees 1 (29-18) Rangers 2 (19-27)

Game 2 of this 3 game series was a stark contrast to the previous one. The bats for both teams were held in check and runs were hard to come by.

The Yankees could only manage 1 run against Ranger starter Vicente Padilla and the Ranger bullpen. Padilla improved to 3-4 with a 5.15 ERA. C.J. Wilson picked up the save.

The Yankees got a great start by Darrell Rasner, who gave up only 2 ER and 7 hits in 7 innings. Rasner is now 2-1 on the season with a 2.84 ERA. Jason Giambi and Robinson Cano each had 2 hits.

Game 3 of the series will have Andy Pettitte vs Kevin Millwood.

                        Wednesday, May 27th, 2008 Yankees 8 Rangers 1

The Yankees, after being held to 1 run yesterday, roared back today and got the 8-1 victory behind some great pitching from Andy Pettitte (6-3, 3.87) Pettitte went 8 innings and allowed 9 hits and 1 ER. He did not walk a batter and struck out 5.

The Yankees were led by Johnny Damon, who was 2-5, Bobby Abreu, 2-5, 2 2B's, and 2 RBI's, and Robinson Cano, who was 1-3 with a 2-Run HR.

The Rangers were led by Ian Kinsler, Josh Hamilton, Frank Catalanotto, and Pedro Feliz, who all had 2 hits a piece. Kevin Millwood didn't pitch bad (5.1, 7 H, 3 ER, 4 K's) but didn't get any support from his offense. Millwood is now 2-5, with a 6.70 ERA on the season.

The Yankees get a much needed day off before starting a 4 game set in Cleveland. The Yankees will send Phil Hughes (7-1, 1.64) against Jeremy Sowers, who was just called up from Columbus for the start.

                          Friday, May 29th, 2008 Yankees 10 Indians 5

The Yankees took game 1 of a 4 game series in Cleveland by beating the Indians 10-5. Phi Hughes continues his incredible season, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing 4 hits and 1 ER. He is now 8-1 on the season and leads the A.L. with a 1.62 ERA.

Johnny Damon went 3-4 with a 3-R HR and 4 RBI's. Jorge Posada went 2-5 with a solo HR. D. Jeter, M. Cabrera, and W. Betemit each had 2 hits.

Aaron Laffey got called up from AAA Columbus and only lasted 2.1 giving up 8 hits and 6 ER's. G. Sizemore had 3 hits for the Tribe.

Game 2 will be Ian Kennedy vs. C.C. Sabathia.

                            Saturday, May 30th, 2008. Yankees 2 Indians 3

The Yankees dropped game 2 of the series against the Indians as they had no answers against C.C. Sabathia. C.C. went 7.0 innings and gave up 7 hits and 2 ER's for his 2nd victory over the Yankees this year. (maybe they should sign him at the end of the season... lol)

Ian Kennedy pitched well but took the loss to fall to 6-2 on the season. D. Jeter had 3 hits and is 5-9 in the first 2 games. Jorge Posada added a solo HR for his 2nd in as many games.

Game 3 of the series will see Carl Pavano vs. Cliff Lee. Lee beat the Yankees back in April so the Yankees will be looking to even the score.

After game 3 I will post stats so far through the first 2 months and some tidbits from around the Majors.

                              Sunday, May 31st, 2008 Yankees 6 Indians 8

The Yankees dropped their second straight to the Tribe by a count of 8-6.

The Yanks jumped on Cliff Lee for 4 runs in the 1st inning but their bullpen could not hold the lead. Carl Pavano left in the 6th with a 4-3 lead but Jose Veras came in and gave up a 3-R HR to Jhonny Peralta.

The Yankees tied the game in the 7th thanks to a 2-R double by Alex Rodriguez, but the Indians scored a run in the 7th and 8th innings to put the game away.

The Yankees end the month of May with a 20-9 record.

Up to date records and stats to follow.

The month of May was a lot kinder to the Yankees than April. The Yankees went 20-9 in May and picked up 4 games on the division leading Red Sox.

Alex Rodriguez was a beast in May, hitting .410, with 7 HR's and 25 RBI's. Johnny Damon went from .250 in April to .306. Jason Giambi went from 2 to 9 HR's in May and from 9 RBI's to 34. Robinson Cano hit .337 in May with 6 HR's and 22 RBI's.

Phil Hughes had a fantastic month of May and is quickly becoming the Ace of the Staff. Hughes was 6-0 in May with a 0.68 ERA. Ian Kennedy went 4-1 in May with a 2.17 ERA.

                                From Around the Majors:

The Detroit Tigers were unreal in the month of May. They went 24-5 and are running away with the A.L. Central. The White Sox went 19-10 in May and have a slim lead on the Yankees in the Wildcard race.

The Tigers lead the Majors in Batting Average at .307, runs with 375, doubles with 129, HR's with 80, and lead in Slugging and On-Base percentage.

Magglio Ordonez, who hit .427 in April, cooled down a little but is still leading the Majors with a .391 BA. Kazuo Matsui, Houston's 2B, is leading the N.L. with a .358 BA. Ordonez and Richie Sexson each have 16 HR's to lead the A.L. and Lance Berkman leads the N.L. with 17.
