The Padres opened up the series in St. Louis with their Rookie LHP Joey Lucchesi going against Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright. The Padres scratched across the first run of the night in the top half of the second inning. The inning started with Wil Myers who reached first base on a fielding error by DeJong on a deflected hit (E6). The next batter Hunter Renfroe grounded to left for a single which advanced Myers to 2B. Myers later crossed the plate after a Freddy Galvis triple to right center field.

The Cardinals would later even the game up at one a piece in the bottom half of the fourth inning when Marcel Ozuna reached first base on a fielders choice (5-4 FC) which allowed DeJong to score from third base after he led off the inning with a sharp single to left field.

The Padres regained the lead after scratching across two in the top half of the sixth inning after a Hunter Renfroe sacrifice fly to Tommy Pham plated Jose Pirela. The next batter Christian Villanueva cranked a double to dead center field which scored Eric Hosmer from second base.

St. Louis was able to add one run in the bottom of the eight of reliever Kazuhisa Makita after Paul DeJong grounded to right for a single scoring Tommy Pham. The Padres closer Brand Hand was able to close the door in the ninth after striking out Marcel Ozuna looking on a changeup low and away, Carpenter chasing a slider low and away, and getting Martinez to fly out to Manuel Margot.

BRAVES CAN’T SOLVE LAMET IN PADRES 5-1 WIN

            ATLANTA 6/14/2018
            Attendance: 27,296
            Weather: 52 degrees, Rain

            First Pitch: 7:35

The Padres came storming into Atlanta eager to redeem themselves after a 10-5 loss to the Cardinals in their last game. Dinelson Lamet came out on fire and dominated the Braves in a 7 inning effort in which he only allowed 1 run on 3hits while striking out 5 and walking 0.

The Padres kicked off the scoring in the fifth inning when Dinelson Lamet showed that he was also very capable with the bat in his hands lining a sharp single to RF with one on (Villanueva) and two away in which everyone thought the inning was over. The next batter Manuel Margot cashed in the opportunity driving in both runners off a triple to deep right center field.

The Braves responded however in the bottom half of the inning when Second baseman Albies ended Lamet’s no hit bid with a towering HR over the right field fence.

We remained in a 2-1 deadlock until the 8th inning when the Padres plated 3 runs off reliever Ramirez from ATL. The inning started with an Eric Hosmer single to left field. Christian Villanueva later grounded to left field scoring Hosmer and advancing Hunter Renfroe to 2nd. Renfroe later came around to score after a Freddy Galvis single. Manny Margot added his third RBI of the night driving in Villanueva after an opposite field single to RF.

Colton Brewer pitched the last 2 innings in relief in the Padres 5-1 win. The Padres are now 39-32 and have tied the Dodgers at the top of the NL West.

The Padres have guaranteed a split vs the Braves after winning their second straight in a 5-2 victory. The Padres hit 4 Home runs, starting in the second inning when Hunter Renfroe and Christian Villanueva went back to back to give the Padres a 2-0 lead. The Padres later hit two more home runs in an inning when Manuel Margot and Eric Hosmer both went yard one inning later in the third. The Padres picked up their 5th run after a Wil Myers Sacrifice fly plated Hosmer. The Braves had a bit of a rally in the bottom of the ninth but was thwarted when closer Brad Hand came in to earn his 16th save of the season.

PADRES SWEEP BRAVES IN GALVIS LATE INNING HEROICS

              ATLANTA - SunTrust Park
              June 17, 2018
              Attendance: 41,149

              First Pitch: 1:35pm

The Padres are going for the four game weekend sweep of Atlanta and had a strong uphill battle to climb after the fast start by Atlanta. Atlanta started out scoring three runs in the bottom of the first, started by a Kurt Suzuki RBI after grounding out to Cory Spangenberg (4-3) scoring Markakis. The Braves plated two more runs after Shea Culberson hit a two run Home Run to dead centerfield off Padre Starter Matt Strahm.

San Diego bounced back and cut the lead down to 1 after Wil Myers hit a two run shot to center field scoring Eric Hosmer and himself, Myers 13th Home Run of the season. The Padres would then take the lead in the top half of the 5th with two runs. After Manny Margot doubled to right, 2B Cory Spangenberg drove him in after a single to left field. Spangenberg later came around to score after a Hunter Renfroe single to center, which extended his hitting streak to 27 games.

The Padres would add on to their lead in the sixth after a solo home run from back up catcher Brett Nicholas. The Braves would get that run back however in the bottom half of the inning after a Markakis single to RF scored Ender Inciarte.

The Braves would tie the game in the 7th off reliever Carter Capps after a Dansby Swanson single to center drove in Shea Culberson.

The lead would then go back to San Diego in the 8th inning after Freddy Galvis hit a screaming line drive HR over the right field fence. Carlos Asuaje would pinch hit for Capps and after singling to left, would later come around to score after a Cory Spangenberg single to RF.

Brand Hand would shut the door in the 9th for his 17th save of the season.

Two of the hottest teams in baseball squared off in San Diego as the visiting Athletics look to continue their 9 game winning streak.

Oakland would score first in the top of the fourth Jed Lowrie led off the inning after a line drive hit and deflected off the glove of 3B Christian Villanueva for a single. Lowrie would advance to second after a Piscotty grounded a single to right. Khris Davis would capitalize on the opportunity and chopped a single to RF scoring Jed Lowrie (1-0 OAK).

The Padres would later go on to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth off a Hunter Renfroe triple to RCF scored Wil Myers. The hit extended Renfroes hitting streak to 28 games. (1-1 tie).

From here, the Padres would take the lead in what would turn out to be the deciding play of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hunter Renfroe crushed a full count fastball to the top deck of the Western Metal Supply building in LF giving the team a 3-1 lead. The Padres would tack on one more run in the bottom of the 7th after a Manny Margot triple scored Austin Hedges.

Brad Hand would come in the 9th and close the door for this 18th save of the season.
