DOZIER, ROYALS MOUNT COMEBACK IN LATE INNINGS

Hunter Dozier was a tough man to keep off the basepaths, as the first baseman went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks; as well as hitting the game-tying homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning before the Royals went on to score three more times to take a 5-2 victory.

Khalil Lee walked three times and also singled; and threw out not one, but two runners at third base, becoming the first Royals rookie to record two outfield assists in a game since some guy named Bo Jackson back in 1986.

Richard Lovelady entered the game in the ninth for the save, but took a line drive off his left (drive leg) knee, and wasn't able to put much pressure on it. MRI's completed on site showed no structural damage, but manager Mike Matheny has him listed as day-to-day.

K.C. CAPITALIZES ON SEATTLE MISCUES IN VICTORY

The Mariners committed three errors in the Royals' four-run seventh inning, allowing Kansas City to claw back from a 5-2 deficit to claim a 6-5 victory. The first error was a throwing error by catcher Omar Narvaez, allowing Khalil Lee to advance from second to third on a stolen base attempt after he singled to lead off the inning.

The next two errors happened with Nicky Lopez at the plate, as Gerson Bautista skipped a pickoff throw past first baseman Dan Vogelbach, allowing Whit Merrifield to reach second. Vogelbach then booted a groundball from Lopez a handful of pitches later, putting runners on first and third. Hunter Dozier would later put the Royals in front with a two-run double against Sam Tuivailala, scoring both Merrifield and Lopez.

Making his second start of the season, Brady Singer struggled over four and two-third innings, allowing ten hits (including four homeruns) and five earned runs, although he did strike out six with just one walk. Luiz Gohara picked up the victory in relief, tossing two and one-third innings of scoreless relief. Josh Staumont picked up his second save, as Richard Lovelady is still listed as day-to-day with a knee bruise.

The M's loss gives them their 10th straight loss to begin the season, the first time that has happened in franchise history. It is also the worst start to the season since the 1997 Cubs squad that started 0-14.

ROYALS FALL FOR MARINERS' FIRST 'W'

Kansas City had opportunities late; loading the bases with one out in the sixth, and then scratching across two runs in the ninth, but ultimately fell short in an 8-6 defeat to the previously-winless Mariners, now 1-10 on the season. Whit Merrifield went 3-for-5 with a homerun, leading off the bottom of the ninth with his second homerun of the season.

Adalberto Mondesi was 2-for-4 with a two-run homerun in the fifth, and later tripled in the ninth just two hitters after Merrifield's blast. Meibrys Viloria reached base three times, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Jose De Leon struck out seven over four and one-third innings, as he was pulled before getting out of the fifth inning. He allowed five earned runs, while surrendering seven hits and one walk. Hard-throwing rightyArt Warren made his MLB debut for the Royals in the eighth inning, and allowed one unearned run in two innings of work, striking out three with one walk.
