      SERIES PREVIEW

      SEATTLE MARINERS(6-2) @ KANSAS CITY ROYALS(3-6)

After losing 2 of 3 in Minnesota, the Mariners road trip continues today as they face the 2015 World Champions, Kansas City Royals.

However the Royals look anything but the former 2015 Champions.

"We've been in a slump the past 2 years after we won it all. A huge hangover for us for sure." Royals Manager Ned Yost stated.

The long time KC Manager has been with the club since 2010. In his time in K.C, Ned Yost had helped built up the Royals to a contender. After 3 straight losing seasons, the Royals finished 2013 with a 86-76 record. Their first winning season since 2003.

But Kansas City still finished 3rd in the Central and out of the playoffs.

But 2014 was different. The Royals made the World Series for the first time since 1985 which was also the last time the Royals made the playoffs.

But the San Francisco Giants Dynasty of the early 2010's won the World Series, their 3rd in 6 years.

Ned Yost finally led the Royals to the top of the mountain in 2015 where they won the "Fall Classic" over the New York Mets.

But the Royals followed up their Championship with back to back 81-81 and 80-82 seasons.

The Mariners(6-2) started off with a nice 5 game winning streak including an opening day sweep of the defending Central Division Champions Cleveland Indians.

They lost 2 of 3 in Minnesota including a 11-1 thrashing loss on Thursday.

"It's a long road trip. Minnesota is a good team. We just have to focus on the next game and can't dwell too much what happened in the last series." Mariners skipper Scott Servais stated.

The Mariners enter the series with the Royals looking for a win after a loss yesterday.

The Royals looking to rebound after being swept by the Cleveland Indians in Ohio.

"That was a tough road trip for us." Yost stated. "It's nice to be back home in Kansas City with our great fans. We're looking to rebound here."

        W: Hisashi Iwakuma(2-0) L: Ian Kennedy(0-2) S: Edwin Diaz(4)

        RECAP

Kansas City, MO- It was a brisk night inside Kauffman Stadium at 52 Degrees, but the Mariners we're red hot.

"It was a great night for us." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

The Royals(3-7) got off to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a Home Run by Whit Merrifield.

But that didn't stop Mariners Japanese right hander Hisashi Iwakuma.

He shook it off and responded well.

        How well?

        6 innings pitched, 3 hits, 1 run, 8 strikeouts.

"After that homerun I had a talk with him and made sure he was able to shrug it off." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

Seattle(7-2) got on the board in the top of the 3rd thanks to a Nelson Cruz Home run.

The score remained 1-1 with neither team able to crack.

Then in the top of the 5th, The Mariners broke through the tie with a huge bomb by third baseman Kyle Seager.

"I saw a great pitch and put a good swing on it." Seager stated.

The Mariners added to the score with homeruns by Cruz, and Gamble, later Segura.

"It's great seeing the guys hitting the ball so well." Mariners Hitting Coach Edgar Martinez stated.

New General Manager Lou Pinella was also praising the team after the game.

"It's nice to see the strides the Team is making. We still have a long way to go to reach our goals." Pinella stated.

Royals Ian Kennedy pitched into the 6th inning but after giving up 8 hits, 4 runs with just 2 strikeouts was removed.

"We're in a slump right now. Need to get back to the basics." Royals Skipper Ned Yost stated.

The Royals however mounted a comeback in the 8th before Seattle closed the door for good with Edwin Diaz picking up his 4th save of the year.

          GAME #10

Danny Duffy makes history, lifts ROYALS past MARINERS 3-0 off No hitter.

          Seattle (7-3)000000000001
          Kansas City (4-7)000000030370
          W: Danny Duffy(3-0) L: Erasmo Ramirez(1-1)

          RECAP

Kansas City, MO- The last time there was a no hitter in Kansas City Franchise history was on August 26, 1991 by Bret Saberhagen.

On Tuesday April 10, 2018 Royals Pitcher Danny Duffy(3-0) can now etch his name in history.

"It's a surreal feeling." Duffy stated after his Royals beat the Mariners 3-0.

Danny Duffy has thrown a no hitter tonight as he racked up 17 strikeouts in the process.

"I tip my hat to him. He's a huge part of our rotation. A performance like that you can't help but smile." Royals Manager Ned Yost stated.

But as the Royals(4-7) celebrate the masterpiece by Danny Duffy, there's concern after tonight's performance on the offense.

The Royals batters struggled tonight vs Mariners right hander Erasmo Ramirez(1-1).

Ramirez pitched all the way into the 8th inning with the score tied at 0 a piece.

He finished the game giving up 7 hits, 3 runs, and 8 strikeouts.

Kansas City got base runners on throughout the game but failed to bring home any runs.

Then K.C scored 3 times in the 8th to lead for good.

Danny Duffy finished the job in the 9th.

"We we're on the wrong end of the no hitter but you have to appreciate how it happened." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

"We had some guys on early but couldn't get them home. We need to work on that." Royals Manager Ned Yost stated.

The Royals(4-7) are coming off back to back losing seasons and look to be in a slump in early April.

The Mariners(7-3) will look to take the rubber match tomorrow.

            W: Justin Hammel(1-2) L: Felix Hernandez(1-2)

            RECAP

Kansas City, MO- Looking to bounce back after yesterday's no hitter, the Mariners(7-4) sent their Ace Felix Hernandez(1-2) to the mound.

            It backfired badly.

The Royals(5-7) jumped all over Hernandez rattling him around for 5 innings while putting up 10 hits and 7 runs on the board. Hernandez was able to pick up 5 strikeouts but it's obvious who won the battle.

Hernandez was benched after the 7-1 score in the 5th.

The Mariners(7-4) attempted to rally but their bats went cold in the later innings.

The only "Hot Bat" for the Mariners was DH's Nelson Cruz who homered twice.

But the hole was too big to climb out of.

"We were pushed around from the get-go." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

The Mariners wrap up their long road trip and fly back to the Pacific Northwest tomorrow. They begin a 7 day home stand against A.L West Rivals, Oakland A's(6-6) and the defending Champions Houston Astros(9-4).

The Kansas City Royals(5-7) stay home and get ready to host the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim(8-4).

              SEATTLE MARINERS(7-4) vs OAKLAND ATHLETICS(6-7)

After a 8 game Road Trip where the Seattle Mariners(7-4) went .500 (4-4) the M's return home to Safeco Field where they face their first AL West Rival, the Oakland A's(6-7).

The Athletics(6-7) coming off 3 straight losing seasons are off to a slump to start 2018.

The A's took 2nd in the West in 2014 before losing the Wild Card Game to the Royals.

But Oakland is still in high hopes with Bob Melvin at the helm and possibly one of the greatest GM's ever, Billy Beane. Beane is currently the V.P.

But the A's are in high spirits regardless.

"This what makes Baseball so great. Ups and downs throughout the year." A's Manager Bob Melvin stated.

The Mariners will look to rebound at home after a struggle on the road in Kansas City where they fell victim to a no hitter.

                MARINERS lose to ATHLETICS 2-1!

                RECAP

Seattle, WA- James Paxton had 6 strikeouts heading into the 7th inning. He only allowed 4 hits all game and the Mariners(7-5) had a 1-0 lead.

But Seattle's bats we're cold all night not able to help out their #2 Ace.

"He did his job. We just didn't do ours. We didn't do him any favors." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

Seattle had a 1-0 lead in the 8th and Oakland was struggling to put the ball in play all night.

Then came the 8th inning where Oakland took a 2-1 lead and slid by their West rivals at Safeco Field.

"We kept swinging all the way to the end." A's Manager Bob Melvin stated.

With the win, Oakland(7-7) is now at .500.

A's right hander Chris Bassitt gave up 5 hits in 5 innings but walked away with 5 strikeouts and allowed the 1 run.

A bomb by Right Fielder Mitch Haniger. His 6th of the year.

"We had a 1 run lead. We didn't add anymore. That's on us." Haniger stated.

The Mariners stumbled to the end with just 6 hits.

"We crashed and burned bad." Mariners Second Baseman Robinson Cano stated.

"We're playing very subpar right now even with a win." A's Manager Bob Melvin stated.

ATHLETICS get a boost from their Farm System to sneak past MARINERS 5-4!

                  RECAP

Seattle, WA- After escaping the Seattle Mariners(7-6) with a 2-1 victory last night, the Oakland Athletics(8-7) made a phone call to their Triple A- Nashville.

"Being 7-7 and signs of inconsistency wasn't sitting right with me." A's Vice President Billy Beane stated.

The Athletics called up two of their prospects to join them in Seattle. Infielder/3rd Baseman Roberto Garcia and Outfielder Mike Webster.

The call up gave the A's new life.

In his first Major league at bat, Roberto Garcia sent his first pitch over the left field wall.

"It was an amazing feeling to get your first hit like that." Garcia stated.

He was welcomed in the dugout by his teammates.

Mike Webster had no home runs but he got his first hit as well and made some great plays out in right field.

"These guys are huge for us. I'm excited to see what the rest of the year has in store for us." Athletics Manager Bob Melvin stated.

Speaking of Home Runs, A's knocked out 3 of them today.

Seattle countered with 3 of their own.

Mariners right hander Mike Leake was rattled again for 10 hits, and 4 runs.

"I've been in a bad groove lately." Leake stated.

The Mariners had a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

A's Kendall Graveman then found his poise.

"After the first I knew I could calm down and get back to work." Graveman stated. He finished the day with 6 strong innings allowing 4 hits, 2 runs, and racking up 6 K's.

He would miss out on the decision though.

"He was solid out there." Melvin stated.

The Athletics held a 4-2 lead throughout the game until the bottom of the 8th when Center Fielder Dee Gordon sent a 2 run blast over the right field wall to pull Seattle to tie.

"We kept fighting." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

The A's took the lead for good in the top of the 9th and Closer Liam Hendriks came on to shut the door for good.

                  His 6th of the year.

The Athletics(8-7) are back over .500.

"We gave up the lead to them and just couldn't get it back again." Servais stated.

General Manager Lou Pinella also watched helplessly from his Box while being given much love from the hometown crowd.

"It's great to be back in Seattle. It really is. So many memories here. I can't wait to build more." Pinella stated.

The Athletics will attempt to sweep the Mariners tomorrow.

Morale is down inside the clubhouse.

The Athletics(9-7) sent a statement loud and clear today inside Safeco Field.
They jumped on Hisashi Iwakuma(2-1) early and took a 4-0 lead in just the first.

"We knew if we would get up early we would be hard to beat." A's Manager Bob Melvin stated.

Oakland knocked Iwakuma out of the game in just the 4th inning as he finished the nightmare day with 9 hits, 9 runs, and 4 strikeouts.

His ERA sky rocketed up to 5.40.

Down 9-0 after Home runs by Chapman, Davis, Fowler, and A's Rookie Roberto Garcia, the A's cruised past their AL West Rivals.

"We we're getting crushed out there today. There's nothing else to say." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

A's left hander Sean Manaea(1-1) found his poise and dominated the Mariners.

He only allowed 3 hits all game in 7 innings and 9 strikeouts.

"I just went back to my old pitches and found a nice groove." Manaea stated.

Seattle would finish the game with just 3 hits total.

"We're not very happy right now. We need to start winning games again." Mariners Second Baseman Robinson Cano stated.

He's been ice cold over the past 7 games.

"It's not a whole lot of fun right now. We still have a long year ahead of us." Mariners Third Baseman Kyle Seager stated.

                      SEATTLE MARINERS(7-7) VS HOUSTON ASTROS(12-4)

Mariners face toughest challenge yet as defending Champions come to town.

The Seattle Mariners are in a 5 game skid and can't seem to get out of it. Seattle started the 2018 campaign on a 5 game win streak before falling to .500 (7-7).

To make matters worse, Seattle was just swept by the Oakland A's who came into Safeco Field and completely dominated them in Game 3 with a 14-0 shutout.

"We're in a slump right now and we need to figure out how to get ourselves out. Otherwise teams will keep running over us." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

"It's early in the year and we have yet to find our identity. I'm keeping my eyes on everything however." Mariners General Manager Lou Pinella stated.

The Houston Astros are coming in hot winning 4 straight and a sweep again West Rival, the struggling Texas Rangers.

"We know there's a target on our back." Astros Manager AJ Hinch stated. "Everytime you win a Championship, teams gun for you."

Last year, the Astros dominated the Mariners 14 out of 19 games on their way to a World Championship.

"Houston is a very good team. They're the defending Champions. This will be a dogfight series. We need to bring our A game." Mariners Skipper Scott Servais stated.

Seattle is coming off a 78-84 2017 campaign and is looking for improvement.

But their record so far says the team is struggling.

The Mariners sit in 4th place behind the A's(9-7), Angels(12-5), and Astros(12-4).

Texas(4-13) is the team worse than Seattle.

"Records don't mean anything this early in the year. If we can get back to winning some games we know we can win." Mariners Second Baseman Robinson Cano stated.

Game 1 will be important for Dallas Keuchel(0-3) who is off to a slow start. He sports a 4.00 ERA and has 15 Strikeouts.

"I'm not worried. I know I can get it together." Keuchel stated.

Seattle will counter with Erasmo Ramirez(1-1) and his 2.03 ERA.

"That's a very tough lineup over there. Each pitch needs to be perfect." Ramirez stated.

But more concern for Seattle will be in Game 2 when "The King" Felix Hernandez takes the ball.

Hernandez is struggling in April. His ERA is a very bad 8.80 and he's 1-2.

Houston will send their own Ace to the hill in Justin Verlander(2-0). 3.66 ERA.

"Baseball is a long sport. Everybody will have slumps and trials. We'll take it one day at a time." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

                        RECAP

Seattle, WA- It was a game of chess between the Houston Astros(13-4) and the Seattle Mariners(7-8) tonight inside Safeco Field.

The score was 0-0 for the first 3 innings with neither team backing down.

"We played great defense at the beginning." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

Erasmo Ramirez and Dallas Keuchel we're both throwing the ball well not giving an inch.

But that changed in the top of the 4th inning when Third Baseman Alex Bregman stepped in and delivered a 1 run bomb over Dee Gordon's head in Center Field.

The Astros we're on the board with a 1-0 lead.

"I looked up and watched it over my head." Gordon stated.

But Seattle would tie the game in the bottom of the 5th with a huge bomb by Kyle Seager.

                        Houston shrugged it off.

"We knew it wasn't going to be a shutout. Seattle was playing us tough." Astros Manager AJ Hinch said.

The Astros and Mariners would trade leads in the 6th when DH Nelson Cruz blasted a HR of his own that put Seattle up 4-2.

But Houston showed exactly why they are the defending Champions. Their heart and determination came through.

                        In the 7th.

The Astros(13-4) rallied for 4 runs in the top of the 7th thanks to a 3 run Home Run by Josh Reddick that put Houston up for good.

"That says a lot about our team. Our determination shows in games and we feel we can win all of them." Reddick stated.

Left Fielder Marwin Gonzalez added a home run of his own in the 9th for insurance that put Houston up 7-4.

Dallas Keuchel went 6 strong innings allowing 7 hits, 4 runs, and struck out 7 picking up his first win of 2018.

"I got after it. I gave up some runs but I played better than last time." Keuchel said.

Mariners right hander Erasmo Ramirez also went 6 innings giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, and 3 strikeouts.

Thanks to Houston's rally, he missed out on the loss. Reliver Juan Nicasio(1-2) was given the L.

He allowed 4 runs in the 7th including Reddicks bomb.

"We played them hard today but couldn't finish it." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

The M's(7-8) attempted a rally in the 9th with a sacrifice fly by Kyle Seager that put Seattle at 7-5 deficit.

Then Houston turned to their Closer.

Ken Giles picked up his 6th save of the year.

"We feel comfortable when he's out there for us." Astros Manager AJ Hinch stated.

Game 2 of the Series is tomorrow night and Seattle will turn to Felix Hernandez(1-2) in hopes of a turnaround.

                          AROUND THE LEAGUE

                          April 16, 2018

The first Month of the 2018 Season is almost in the books. Here's some of the Storylines around Major League Baseball.

                          TAMPA BAY RAYS(0-16)

The rebuild has gone south in Tampa as the Rays open the 2018 campaign losing 16 straight. Tampa Bay was 80-82 last year as the rebuild continues. Last time Tampa Bay saw the Playoffs was 2013 where they lost in the ALDS to the Champion Boston Red Sox. Tampa Bay still has a long road ahead for their rebuild but there's no word yet on if Manager Kevin Cash will be removed by Season's end or not.

                          Cleveland Indians(11-5)

After a 0-5 start including being swept in Seattle on Opening Week, the Indians have knocked out 11 straight wins. Lets not forget about the Tribe's record setting win streak last year when they won 22 straight games.

Manager Terry Francona has his Club in first place in the Central and are coming off two straight Division titles. The Tribe lost in the Division Series to the New York Yankees and are in search of their first World Championship since 1948.

ASTROS hit 9 Home Runs, Crush MARINERS 16-4....

                            RECAP

Seattle, WA- The defending Champions Houston Astros(14-4) knocked 9 Home Runs out tonight in their 16-4 thrashing of the Seattle Mariners(7-9).

Seattle has now lost 7 straight.

"We're just in a downward spiral now. No other way to put it." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

He watched helplessly from the Mariner dugout as the Astros had their way with his ballclub.

Even the bullpen was helpless as a total of 4 relievers we're used tonight with majority of them giving up the long ball.

Felix Hernandez(1-3) gave up 10 hits, 6 runs, and had zero K's in 5 innings.

The Mariners(7-9) Bullpen we're forced to try and pick up the slack.

"We over worked our bullpen tonight. Guys we're trying to pick up the slack." Servais stated.

The M's Bullpen was so over worked that they ended the game giving up 21 hits, 16 runs, and only 3 Strikeouts.

"Our whole performance tonight was just terrible. I take blame for that. I'm much better than this." Felix Hernandez stated.

The M's also struggled in the field giving themselves 3 errors.

"We need to be much better when we're on defense." Mariners Kyle Seager stated.

Kyle Seager had 2 and Shortstop Jean Segura had the other.

Astros Ace Justin Verlander(3-0) lasted 6 innings with 8 hits, 4 runs, 6 strikeouts.

"We're playing really well right now. We feel like there's nobody who can stop us." Astros Manager AJ Hinch stated.

The Mariners ship continues to sink in the "Scott Servais Era" as the club has now lost 7 straight and 8 of 10 games.

"We're back to the drawing board and we need to figure out how to get a win over them." Servais stated.

Seattle will turn to their hottest Pitcher yet, James Paxton(2-0) in hopes of slowing Houston down tomorrow night.

The Astros will counter with Gerrit Cole(1-0).

                              RECAP

Seattle, WA- The Mariners bats we're ice cold tonight inside Safeco Field as the team finished the 9-0 drubbing with just 1 hit.

"We had one hit all game. We we're simply dominated tonight." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

Astros right hander Gerrit Cole dominated on the hill tonight. Going a strong 7 innings with 10 Strikeouts no runs and just 1 hit allowed.

Houston would finish with 9 runs and 11 hits.

"We played very well tonight. Division games are tough and so far we've been playing well against them." Astros Manager AJ Hinch stated.

"Big Maple" James Paxton was decent given the lineup he faced.

                              Paxton(2-1) went 6 innings allowing 6 hits, 4 runs, and 7 strikeouts.

"Not good enough." Paxton stated. "Houston is a very good team. Hard to pitch to a lineup like that."

The night was memorable for Houston's Center Fielder George Springer who hit his 100th home run.

"Very special moment for me personally." Springer said.

Houston(15-4) continues to roll over the struggling Seattle Mariners(7-10). The Astros have now won 7 straight.

The Mariners continue to slide now losing 8 straight.

"We're in a free fall and we can't stop it. We need to figure out what the hell is going on." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

Houston will attempt to sweep the Mariners tomorrow afternoon. With how Seattle is playing, that should be easy for the red hot Astros.

ASTROS sweep MARINERS and win 8 straight...

                                RECAP

Seattle, WA- Get your brooms out Astros fans! The Houston Astros(16-4) have swept the Mariners(7-11) today and have won 8 straight.

In the process, Houston has handed Seattle their 9th straight loss.

"It's a bad taste in our mouths. It really is. Losing is never fun but it sucks to get swept by a Division rival. Especially at home." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

The Astros won the game today with a 4-1 victory over the Mariners. Brian McCann and Jake Marisnick each had Home Runs.

Charlie Morton(4-0) gave up 5 hits and a Nelson Cruz Home run for 4 strikeouts in 7 innings.

The Nelson Cruz HR was the only run Seattle would get.

"We need more runs. You're not going to win many games with just 1 run on the board." Mariners Hitting Coach Edgar Martinez stated.

After Morton left, Houston(16-4) turned to their bullpen and they kept Seattle(7-11) off the bases as Ken Giles picked up his 7th Save of the year.

"We're firing on all cylinders right now. Very proud of this Baseball team." Astros Manager AJ Hinch stated.

Mike Leake(0-2) was helpless on the mound for Seattle as he was knocked around for 6 hits, 4 runs, and 3 K's.

Houston's 4 runs all came off Mike Leake in the first 2 innings.

"It's awful. I know I can play better than I have been." Leake stated.

The Mariners Bullpen would keep the defending Champions off the board but Seattle's batters couldn't score anymore runs.

"It really came down to the fact we couldn't score runs." Mariners GM Lou Pinella stated.

The Astros simply dominated the Mariners in their 4 game series outscoring them 36-10.

"Looking back at the stats for the series and we we're simply outplayed, outcoached, and just dominated. They're a tough Ball Club. Defending Champions for a reason." Servais stated.

The Mariners are now on a 9 game losing streak and falling deeper in the AL West Standings.

"We still have a long way to go. Still time to figure things out." Mariners GM Lou Pinella stated.

The Houston Astros(16-4) road trip continues as they head to the "Windy City's" South side and will meet the White Sox(10-9) for a 3 game series.

The White Sox are in a rebuild of themselves.

The Seattle Mariners(7-11) wrap up their 7 game homestand and will begin a 10 day road trip heading to Texas(6-14) for a 3 game series.

The Rangers are struggling and Seattle should snap their 9 game skid here.
