      Re: Bacon's Forever Franchise

      Game 60: @ Washington Nationals
We gave Devon Sampson an extended break in the rotation before this game and he didn't adjust well to the extra rest. Sampson allowed six runs including a Grand Slam in the first inning in Washington. While Marvin Mays was dominant for the Nats. Ricardo Mejia held down the fort in the bullpen and we added a couple on an Alexander Goodwin home run but we drop game one in the Captial, 9-4.

      Game 61:
A pair of two run home runs helped us flip the script against Washington in game two. Both Jake Fish and Derrek Hills hit dingers as those four runs were enough to hold up a great start by Shawn Malone. Malone went 6 and a third while his only mistake was deposited into the seats resulting in both of his runs allowed. We tacked on a couple more and that made it easy for us to put in Ben Roseboro for his first Brewers appearance. The Brewers are winners here, 7-3.

      Game 62:
Some small ball in the fourth is how we score three runs. All RBI singles to take the lead. Then we added more in the seventh from a Troy Drennan two-run home run to take the team lead in homers. We even had enough of a cushion that we again put in Ben Roseboro in his second appearance. He threw a scoreless ninth which included a walk. W 6-1.

      Series Recap:
We won two out of three versus Washington on their turf to take the season series 4-2. The Nats' bats were good but we were just better and Ben Roseboro did great to limit how often we had to use our higher leverage arms.

      What's Next?
We head to New England to play the AL East leading, Boston Red Sox. The BoSox are 39-25 and boast some really powerful bats up and down their lineup like perennial All Star Rondell McKnight and switch-hitting veteran Clinton Lake.

        Re: Bacon's Forever Franchise

Game 63: @ Boston Red Sox
The reigning rookie of the month, Nellie Orvella got us started in Boston with a two run home run. This was Nellie's 10th home run and he has to be the favorite for NL Rookie of the Year at this point in the season. The Sox would rebound to get a couple runs of their own due to some poor defense yet again but our starter, Jacob Quantrill, powered through the struggles behind him, turning in one of his best starts on the season. We picked up two more runs, one each in the sixth and seventh, first from a double of the bat of Orvella and then a Kenny Story double. The bullpen would slam the door causing the final here to be a 4-2 Brewers win.

        Game 64:
We got Wright an early lead in this game and the team needed it since Austin left with an injury in the middle of the fourth inning. Wright may need an IL stint but we are more worried about this game than that right now. Sidney Knight came in and threw 3+ innings after Wright left then it was Tony Labandeira before he handed it off to our A relievers. We scored three more runs to add on in the ninth which made it seem like we wouldn't need our closer but Roseboro gave up three of his own. D.J. Ryan came in to close the door but was unable so we got free baseball in this one. Both teams scored in the 12th so we keep on keeping on. A single by Michael McCoy pushed across another run in the 13th and then Kendall Thompson shut down the Sox so we win 8-7.

        Game 65:
Shawn Malone had a rough time in Boston and we kinda needed him to go long to save the bullpen so at least he did that. Malone gave up six before exiting in the sixth where he gave up a Grand Slam to Percy Hopkins. Ben Robinson was dominant for Boston but the boat began to leak in the 8th when Michael McCoy hit one over the Green Monster in left. Versus their bullpen Alexander Goodwin also hit a homer but that wasn't enough, 6-3 win for the Red Sox.

        Series Recap:
With all three games being close, the bullpens made the difference in this series. Our 'pen combined to throw 15.2 innings while yielding twelve hits and five walks but struck out 16 while collecting two saves and four total holds. Performances like this as a collective are what we need to sustain success long term.

        What's Next?
We head back to Milwaukee as we'll host the San Diego Padres and Cincinnati Reds on this next homestand after we rest on a travel day. The Dads are just 34-33 and they're right in the middle of the NL West. They're coming off winning four of their last five and also had an off day before getting to The Good Land. Players like Kole Robertson, Train Lucas and even Jackson Gorzelanny look like they'll be headed to the All Star Game this summer in Los Angeles.

          Re: Bacon's Forever Franchise

Game 66: v. San Diego Padres
The Padres starter Alec Thigpen had himself a day and his offense put in the work as well. D.J. Fader played the game of his life as the little speedster hit two home runs early then Dallas Phillips added a long ball of his own but there was plenty of offense spread around in between the dingers. We got one real late but the bullpen would allow a couple of runs as well. Final 11-1, Padres.

          Game 67:
We completely flipped the script in game number two of the series. Instead, it was B.J. Butler who was dominant and our offense who scored seven runs early on. Dylan Bell cleared the bases with a triple and then both Nick Paxton and Troy Drennan brought it two runs themselves. Butler allowed a run in the seventh but was very strong in this one otherwise. He turned it over to the bullpen where Bernie Beerbrat, making his first appearance with us, was excellent out of the bullpen. W 10-1.

          Game 68:
After two blowouts, we finally played a close game versus the Padres. Jacob Quantrill was shaky early. He walked in a run in the first inning and had four walks total but was really able to settle down after allowing two total in the first two innings. Padres starter Alexzander Starks was also excellent over his five frames. He struck out seven while only allowing four hits and two runs, both coming in the first. The star of this game for the Padres was Kris Dodson. Batting ninth in a left v. left matchup, Dodson collected four hits including one that went over the fence. The game stayed tied after nine so we got free baseball in the finale. The Padres scored two in the 12th but we would match their runs to force a 13th. In that 13th, the Padres scored three and we would only get one back so we would lose 8-6 in 13 innings.

          Series Recap:
We dropped two of three at home against San Diego. The Padres powered their way to a series win thanks to great performances by D.J. Fader (in game one) and Kris Dodson (in game three) but their wins were overall good team performances. This won't be the last time we hear from these Padres.

          What's Next?
We will host the Cincinnati Reds in a battle for second place in the NL Central. The Reds are 36-33 entering the series while we come in at 37-31. Cincy has recently been bit by the injury bug losing Richard Fowler and Alonso Rincon for an extended period of time but their replacements have done well to keep the Reds afloat.

            Re: Bacon's Forever Franchise

            Game 69: v. Cincinnati Reds
We fell into a quick hole against the Reds and could never recover. The Reds pounced on our starter Shawn Malone because of a homer in the first by Dario Rivas and a two-run shot by Kasey Lumpkin in the third. Lumpy is a five tool player and all of his tools were on display in this game as he also collected a stolen base later in the game. Reds' starter Alvin Sparks Jr. was effectively wild today. He beaned three of our hitters, including Jake Fish twice but only had one walk and would only allow a single tally, because of a Josh Carroll seventh inning home run. We got one more in garbage time but this game was all Cincinnati, 7-2.

            Game 70:
We played in a good old fashioned pitcher's duel here in game number two. Both teams showed good defense and luck with timely double plays to keep it a close game into the late innings. Lucas Dougherty matched Austin Wright until the seventh when the Reds hit two solo home runs. It stayed close until the ninth when Jairo Sanchez hit a grand slam. Final 7-1 Reds win.

            Game 71:
We moved Devon Sampson to the bullpen so Anthony Florial made his Brewers debut in this game. He was a little shaky, throwing five innings and giving up four runs, but the bullpen picked him up by holding the Reds scoreless and our offense broke out to score seven runs. The big star at the plate was Tommy Darling. Our backup backstop had two hits including a big two-out two-RBI double in the sixth to give us all the momentum. We win, 7-4.

Michael McCoy is going to hit our 10-day IL but should only be out the ten days. He sprained his elbow in the final v. Cincinnati. In his place, we will recall 2B/OF Brad McKenna, who will be making his MLB debut and wearing #35.

            Series Recap:
Seven was the magic number this series. The winning team scored seven runs in all three games as Milwaukee and Cincinnati are now jockeying for the second place position in the NL Central. The key continues to be our starting rotation - which is something we will have to look into improving before the trade deadline.

            What's Next?
We play a quick two game series in Minneapolis to take on the Twins in the first half of our border battle. The Twins are 43-30 but just lost their ace Dale Wolf for the season when he was hit in the head with a line drive. We'll instead get to face the back end of the Minnesota rotation where they send Alex Vernon and Jake Baker up as their starters.

              Re: Bacon's Forever Franchise

              Game 72: @ Minnesota Twins
We took game one in our quick series in Minnesota, 5-4. Derrek Hills powered the offense, he had a double in the first and a home run in the third then added on two walks. The young second baseman was instead DH'ing in this game since Brad McKenna was making his MLB Debut at second. He recorded his first MLB hit in this game, going just 1-4. B.J. Butler was excellent again here. He has been one of our big surprises so far this year and much better than the average #5 starter.

              Game 73:
We pounced on Jake Baker early in the finale. He allowed seven runs in the second inning started by a Derrek Hills home run and later included a Josh Carroll home run as well. This made it easy for Jacob Quantrill to cruise to his sixth win of the season as we sweep Minnesota, 8-4 winners.

              Series Recap:
We steal both games from the Twins as the back end of their rotation had no answers for our hot bats. Adding in that our starting pitchers have been great and we have had off days built in, the bullpen is really well rested too so we are set up well for our next series and the rest of this stretch before the All Star Break.

              What's Next?
We head to Phoenix for the weekend. The Diamondbacks are 34-41 and seem to be doing better than expected. Raul Ruiz is having a career year so far. He's batting .308/.382/.517 with 11 homers and 30 runs batted in on a poor D'Backs squad. Their pitching but especially their bullpen has also been decent so far into June.

                Re: Bacon's Forever Franchise

                Game 74: @ Arizona Diamondbacks
Our opener in Arizona was a battle of the aces...and it was a true battle of the aces. Austin Wright and Al Parker matched each other deep into this game but it was the Diamondbacks who would come out on top. They held a 2-0 lead entering the ninth inning before we mounted a rally against D'Backs closer, Eric Lynn. Lynn ended up throwing nearly 30 pitches as he loaded the bases after a hit and a couple of walks. Lynn would eventually work out of it and complete his 22nd save which also gave Parker his 7th win. Arizona beats us here, 1-0.

                Game 75:
In game two, we dominated the D'backs. We brought in 16 runs to completely humiliate Arizona on their home turf. We had home runs from Nellie Orvella, Derrek Hills (twice), Oswaldo Segovia, Kenny Story (a Grand Slam) and Jake Fish while Segovia, Hills and Orvella all had at least three hits. Shawn Malone did his part on the bump. He threw seven strong and had some issues but it really didn't matter. We were winners, 16-3.

                Game 76:
The finale in Arizona was a slugfest. We scored 7 runs in the first against Rickey Villacis but then the D'backs scored 6 of their own in the bottom half too. It wouldn't end there, Arizona would add on eight more runs while we would make it close but fall short. The final here was 15-13, Diamondbacks win and take the series.

                Series Recap:
After the first game, there were plenty of runs to go around as we combined to outscore the D'Backs 30-20 but Arizona took the series. The month of June has not gone as well as May did but this is about what we expect from these Brewers.

                What's Next?
We'll host the Blue Jays for three games in the middle of the week. The Jays are 37-41, which is good for 3rd in the AL East. They have had some surprising contributions from players like Roberto Ortega and Craig Lewis but overall the offense hasn't been great with some of the studs they use daily.

                  Re: Bacon's Forever Franchise

Game 77: v. Toronto Blue Jays
The run parade continued for our opponents as the Jays had no issues scoring runs in game number one. It seemed like everything they hit was in the gap or over the fence. The Blue Jays ended up scoring 11 runs and we got a few late to make it seem close as we lose 11-6. Jake Fish hit a dinger late but it did not matter.

                  Game 78:
Jacob Quantrill kept this game close until he blew up in the fifth inning. Roberto Ortega sent a deep drive to right field resulting in a Grand Slam which broke the game wide open for the Jays. We hit a home run in garbage time again in game two, this time it was Derrek Hills. Hills leads the squad with 17 home runs now. We drop game two as well, 9-4 Jays.

                  Game 79:
In what was hyped up as an "ace versus ace matchup", one ace carried the team on his back while the other was inconsistent throughout his whole start. Will Palmer was great for the Jays, throwing well over 100+ pitches while Austin Wright continued his struggles for us. The big bats for Toronto Tyson Decker and Pete Van Smash both hit two-run home runs and we couldn't overcome that offense. The Jays win 7-6.

                  Series Recap:
Both teams scored a bunch but it was the Blue Jay bats that would prevail in a sweep in Milwaukee. It seemed like every ball the Jays hit was in the gap or for extra bases and it made it very easy for their quality pitching to hold down the fort.

                  What's Next?
We host Pittsburgh for the first time all season. The Pirates are 4th in the division and a team we should easily roll past even with our poor injury luck and hitting a cold spot in the season.

                    Game 80: v. Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates took a quick lead but Shawn Malone was able to hold them down so it was just a 3-2 ballgame as we entered the late innings. In the eighth, Kenny Story dribbled a single up the middle that would hit off the second base bag which caused some confusion in the Pirates middle infield and gave us the lead. That lucky groundball turned out to be the difference as we walk away winners, 5-3.

                    Game 81:
Anthony Florial turned in the best start of his young career in game two but the offense couldn't support him. Then once Florial left, the bullpen blew up the game. The Pirates exploded with seven runs in the seventh inning and left this game out of reach for our lately anemic offense. In the end, it wouldn't matter how much Pittsburgh scored because we couldn't score at all. Final 12-0.

                    Game 82:
Thanks to six great innings from B.J. Butler this was another close game but he did have one blowup frame where he allowed four runs to score. On the opposite side, we scored two runs early then another fairly quickly - all driven in by Nellie Orvella. Then a home run by Flash Miller tied the score in the seventh. We would keep it tied until the bottom of the ninth and Michael McCoy was the hero when he sent a flyball to the outfield to push across the winning run. Brewers take the finale and the series, 5-4.

                    Series Recap:
Five runs was the magic number in our two wins for this series - that obviously excludes our shutout in the game two blowout. The Pirates were outmatched in the two close games but took out their frustrations in the middle game. The major win is us taking the series. We need to win series against divisional opponents and this sets the tone for future matchups versus the bottom-feeders of the NL Central.

                    What's Next?
We head south just 90 minutes to play the Cubbies to finish June. It's actually a four game series that will stretch from 6/29-7/2 before continuing the road trip to St. Louis. Chicago is still clinging on to the lead in the division and they get just a touch healthier in game one of the series since their ace, Edwin Rodriguez, is fresh off the IL to make the start.

                        Re: Bacon's Forever Franchise

                        Game 83: @ Chicago Cubs
This game will be forever remembered as the worst defensive performance I've seen from a shortstop. Flash Miller had two throwing errors in the first two batters of the game - the latter of which would eventually cause the first Cubs run to score and then much later in the game, he booted another ball which prevented us from turning a key double play late. Miller did however redeem himself by collecting two knocks and scoring a key run late. Our fifth inning was a big frame, we came around to score five times in a rally started by rookie Mark Chiavacci and ended up punctuated by a home run into the bleachers by Jake Fish. We added on a couple more but so would they and D.J. Ryan came on to get the last four outs and collect his 22nd save of the season. We win 8-6.

                        Game 84:
Brad McKenna just keeps hitting as he knocked another two-run home run in his first at bat of game two but that lead wouldn't hold because the Cubs came back with five runs the very next inning. The Cubs would add on a bunch more, scoring a total of nine runs, as Austin Wright's awful season continues. Jake Fish and Alexander Goodwin both nailed two-run home runs which kept things interesting. Devon Sampson was also great out of our bullpen. He threw two scoreless innings to keep this game close in the late innings. We lose but there was a nice score 6-9.

                        Game 85:
The offenses matched each other with only a solo home run a piece entering the seventh inning but Flash Miller coming through with a clutch single then Brad McKenna hitting a home run in his third straight game, gave us an advantage late. D.J. Ryan came on for the ninth and faced the 3-4-5 hitters for the Cubs and they were no match. Ryan collected two strikeouts en route to the save and the team only allowed three hits all game. Brewers win 4-1.

                        Game 86:
This was another offensive game for us. Josh Carroll and Jake Fish both hit two-run home runs which set up B.J. Butler well but the bullpen couldn't hold it for us. Thankfully, the bullpen couldn't hold it for Chicago either. The Cubs allowed four runs in the top of the eighth and without a key double play, it could have been a lot more. Then D.J. Ryan came in to shut them down and we win again, 8-6.

                        Series Recap:
Taking three out of four in Chicago has tightened up the NL Central. The Reds are now much closer and we are also within striking distance. The wins and the turnaround by our pitching sets us up to be buyers at the trade deadline.

We go to St. Louis for the first time this season. The Cardinals have been crippled by injuries lately losing Matt Peterson and Mitchell Bonner recently. They are fourth in the NL Central and likely looking like sellers at this summer's trade deadline.

Game 87: @ St. Louis Cardinals
We only had one big swing in this game but that ended up being all we needed. Dylan Bell hit a grand slam in a magical fourth inning to take the lead and we never looked back. Anthony Florial was fantastic even in just five innings and then the bullpen finished off the win in St. Louis. Brewers win 4-1.

                          Game 88:
The Brewers and Cardinals matched each other in both hits and home runs but the result was not close. Gino Bolgiano hit two home runs, his first two of the season for St. Louis but his bat was the only clutch one in their lineup. While we also hit just two dingers, from sluggers Jake Fish and Alexander Goodwin but we would add on a lot more to cruise to an 11-4 victory in game two on the Fourth of July.

                          Game 89:
Cardinals' starter Corban McCarthy was excellent as he threw his first five innings scoreless but then ran into some trouble in the sixth. We scored a pair of runs to push him out of the game and for Austin Wright, that was plenty of support. Wright gave up a solo home run to Andrew Norris but that was the only blemish on his line as he would throw a complete game to carry us to a win and a series sweep. Brewers win 4-1.

                          Series Recap:
We swept the terrible St. Louis Cardinals and it vaults us into first place for the first time all season. The starting pitching was on point and the hitting was clutch enough to pull a win in all three games. We have yet to lose a game in the month of July.

                          What's Next?
We host the Tampa Bay Rays for just two quick games and then a four game set hosting the Colorado Rockies. The Rays have been decent but not great and already acquired some star power well before the deadline by grabbing Ramon Ramirez in a swap with Kansas City.

Game 90: vs. Tampa Bay Rays
A four spot in the second inning was the entirety of our offense in game one versus the Rays. Brad McKenna hit a three-run home run and that was enough for Shawn Malone in his start. The bullpen again did a great job and held the Rays to just two total runs as we pull a 4-2 win.

                            Game 91:
We end up splitting the series with the Rays after being shutout in game number two. Erik Snow and company were excellent for Tampa while B.J. Butler gave up two runs but without offense, it would not matter. We did collect a few doubles but nothing went over the fence. We drop this one to the Rays, 2-0.

                            Series Recap:
Another split versus the Rays means we finish 2-2 against Tampa on the season. It's great to see low scoring, dramatic games for a team that is competing as part of a three team competition for the division lead now.

                            What's Next?
Our final series of the first half is a four game series hosting the Colorado Rockies. Colorado is sitting in first in the NL West even after being bit by the injury bug. Most notably, they lost their star right fielder, perennial all-star Jimmy Lowe for the season.

                              Game 92: v. Colorado Rockies
A magical five run second inning powered us to a win in game one versus the Rockies. The first couple were brought in by a double by Oswaldo Segovia then two more later on by Michael McCoy. Nellie Orvella hit a dinger and starter Jacob Quantrill did everything right which put us in a great spot for the win, 6-2.

                              Game 93:
Anthony Florial for us and Ben Cox for the Rockies matched eachother with four innings of one run ball but both offenses exploded in the fifth. Colorado scored three on the back of two home runs while we piled on five while also hitting two dingers. Then it was on to the bullpens where we would add a couple more on while completely shutting down the Rockies to score the win, 8-4.

                              Game 94:
The stars again were the starting pitchers but this time the duel went all the way into the 8th. We pushed Austin Wright as long as he could go but he ran out of gas in the 8th frame before turning it over to the bullpen and that was where the chaos begun. Will Bell allowed an inherited runner to score but got a couple outs then once Bryce Black came aboard, he allowed a grand slam which gave Colorado all of the control. We end up losing by a touchdown, 7-0 Broncos.

                              Game 95:
In our final game of the first half, Shawn Malone let the Rockies open it wide open by allowing four runs in the first frame. He wouldn't last too much longer as he left with an injury in the fourth inning. Brad McKenna stayed hot by hitting another home run but that was it for our offense. The Rockies scored a lot more late to split the series as they win 14-1.

                              Series Recap:
We finished with a split against the Rockies which means we will officially finish the first half in first place in a very tight and very competitive NL Central. The Shawn Malone injury was a big one as we will now need to find a way to fill in for another starting pitcher in our rotation.

I'll start including standings updates like this to future updates:
                              Brewers 52-43
                              Reds 52-44
                              Cubs 52-44

                              What's Next?
The All Star Break is upon us. We get a few days to rest before beginning the second half with a road trip to California. We play San Diego, who is 51-46, then we go to Chavez Ravine to play the 53-44 Los Angeles Dodgers with the trade deadline right around the corner!

Game 96: @ San Diego Padres
The bats came to San Diego hot...well more specifically one bat. Derrek Hills hit not one but two three-run home runs to support Austin Wright, who is looking even more ace-like with each of his last few starts. Wright went seven scoreless before turning it over to the bullpen, a move that would make this game seem closer than it really was. We take game one, 8-3.

                                Game 97:
A pair of doubles opened up the scoring for us but the power surge would not end there as five of our eight hits this game were for extra bases. We sent three balls over the fence in the game - including Derrek Hills hitting his team leading 20th home run. Jacob Quantrill was dominant, scattering seven hits over seven scoreless frames. Austin Trout made an appearance out of the bullpen and surrendered a couple which made this look closer than it was but we take game two, 5-2, and look to sweep in the finale versus all-star Kole Robertson.

                                Game 98:
Robertson was expectedly excellent in game three as he hucked six innings allowing just one run - that run thanks to back-to-back doubles in the sixth but one run is rarely ever enough to win a game. Our starter, B.J. Butler was much less in charge as he allowed all six of San Diego's runs - including four in the very first inning. The Padres cruise to a 6-1 win but we took the series.

                                Series Recap:
The hot bats carried us to a series win in San Diego and we are looking good as we have re-entered the lead in the NL Central. Derrek Hills hitting his 20th home run is great and collecting three of them total in this series means his bat is as hot as it can be coming out of the break.

                                What's Next?
We continue our road trip to Los Angeles. The Dodgers are in second and currently own an 8-6 record in the month of July. They are coming off hosting the All-Star Game festivities and then splitting a series at home versus the Giants.
