    Breaking News!
    Orangeburg, South Carolina:
South Carolina State have just made a surprising hiring for the vacant Head Coaching position for the Men's Basketball team. Jasper Oftedal is the next Bulldog head coach. Oftedal was a long shot to becoming the head coach most of us have never even heard of him before today. Here is a little background on the new coach. Oftedal is 26 and a varsity high school basketball coach. Yes a high school basketball coach is now the head coach for SCS. Hopefully this turns out the best for Oftedal and South Carolina State a press conferance has been scheduled for tommarow.

Journalist: Coach Oftedal tell us a little about your high school career.

JO: Well I was coaching varsity basketball at Hoover High School in Fresno Ca. I started coaching there when I was 23 and coached there for 3 seasons and won 2 valley champions but no state.

Journalist: Who is going to be your starting five?

JO: PG: Jessie Burton 5'11" Sr (64 ovr)
SG: Jason Flagler 6'4" Jr (62 ovr)
SF: Brandon Smalls 6'5" Jr (62 ovr)
PF: Jason Johnson 6'7" Sr (63 ovr)
      C: Josh Jackson 6'8" Sr (59 ovr)

Journalist: Coach what are you looking for in your recruits?

JO: The first thing I look for just plain basketball skill. Then shooting I need a team to shoot the ball effectivley for us to have a chance to win. First we need to get bigger our tallest player is 6'8" and with three starter being seniors we need to hit the recruiting trails.

Journalist: What does the schedule look like?

JO: I will being posting the schedule tommarow in the gym is you want to see it, it will be posted around 3:30 in the afternoon. Anymore questions?

Journalist: Nope congrats on the hiring and thank you coach for you time good luck.

        Jasper Oftedal on the schedule

We are playing in two tournaments the Blackjack Shootout (Iona) and Jim N Nick's Cougar Classic (James Madison). I was surprised to see that we are playing James Madison twice. The out of conference schedule has tough teams the toughest of course is going into Chapel Hill to play the Tar Heels. The conference will be a hard fought battle and I have no clue on how well we will do until the season starts. Can't wait till the 9th comes so we can kick off the season and turn and few heads.

South Carolina State at South Carolina

The first game of the season didn't turn out the way coach Oftedal planned. South Carolina State lost to South Carolina by 10. " You know the first lost always feels the worst we have to pick it up and keep it going" " I will admit I made a dumb decision by keeping Josh Jackson in the 1st half when he had 3 fouls when he commited his 4th in the 1st half I had to take him out." " Our shooting was horrendous we just kept throwing up 3's and that did not work at all."

Norfolk, VA: Coach Oftedal has just won his first game of his career " Wow if feels great to get my first win" On how the team played different from the previous game the coach said "Man we got to the line way more and our shots were falling plain and simple if we play like this every game I don't think anyone one can beat us" The Bulldogs next game is against the Jacksonville Dolphins form the Atlantic Sun conference.

Coach's Corner: We did really good tonight. It was a nice warm-up for next weeks North Carolina which I think this school has ever faced a harder opponent, but first let's talk about this game. We played well and shoot the light's out. We had four men in double digits. Carrio Bennett did great coming of the bench scoring 14. Josh Johnson is just a beast getting his first double-double of the season. The only thing I think we need to work on is not committing so many turnovers a team like NC will tear us up if this happens next week.
