    NC State Wolfpack---(CH 2k8)

Kevin Rogers Hired as new Athletic Director after Lee Fowler dismissal.

Raleigh, NC- Big news coming out of Raleigh, North Carolina today, as NC State's search for a new AD has ended with the hiring of 21 year old Kevin Rogers. Fans were both excited and shocked to hear of both the Lee Fowler firing and the hiring of such a young AD.

"We were tired of that bastard, he was awful" said senior Samuel Blue when interviewed about the abrupt firing of Lee Fowler.

While much work still needs to be done, fans are happy to finally see some changes being made. Fans hope that it will not only have an impact on the basketball team, but as well other sports.

[Kevin] Rogers did assure coach Sidney Lowe that he will remain coach of the NC State Wolfpack for the time being, and told the coach that they must make the NCAA Tournament or things could change.

"I want to see NC State win, not only for the program, but for the fans. They are the most loyal fanbase in the ACC, and they deserve better than what they have been given." said new AD Kevin Rogers during his first interview.

2007-2008 NC State Men's Basketball Preview

NC State has not had the best of decades since the last time they won the National Championship back in 1983. Much excitement is built around this year's team and it is easy to see why.

After last year's great run in the ACC Tournament, many believe that with the addition of J.J. Hickson, this team could be one of the best in the ACC.

But the main question around this team will be, who will step up and replace the loss of senior PG Engin Atsur. NC State has a true freshman Javi Gonzalez who will be the starter, and another point guard, Farnold Degand who will come off the bench.

If NC State can get solid point guard play, theh this team will go far this year. Senior Gavin Grant has already put the bounty on NC State's head when earlier in the year he said that NC State will not lose more than 3 games this season. Only time will tell if that holds true.

One thing is for certain, fans want to see wins over in-state rivals.

I think Jimmy V was a terrific coach. Hopefully you can accomplish what he did, or even better.

Raleigh, NC-- The Wolfpack opened up their 2007-08 season on a good note with a conviencing 73-57 victory over the Tribe of William & Mary.

The Wolfpack were led by sophomore forward Brandon Costner who had a double double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Ben McCauley had 13 points and Gavin Grant had 12 points to go along with Costner.

The Tribe hung in for most of the first half as the Wolfpack started out very slow, but NC State got it going late into the 1st half and carried that over into the 2nd half.

Freshman phenom J.J. Hickson had a strong debut in limited minutes. He racked up 8 points and 6 rebounds in only 8 minutes of time.

William & Mary tried to get a run going early in the 2nd half, but it was snuffed out when Gavin Grant had a breakaway dunk off a bad pass from John Sexton. That got the crowd back into the game and pretty much closed the door on any comeback by the visitors.

NC State (1-0) has a game this Sunday against the New Orleans Privateers (0-1). Tickets are still available.

That's just a normal box score, but you can bring it up from the schedule screen during Legacy, then I just copied the stats off the screen.

Raleigh, NC-- The Wolfpack could never put the Privateers away when they played them Sunday night. NC State managed to hold on to a 9 point victory 72-63, but it was not easy.

New Orleans (0-1) had a very tough defense that forced 12 NC State turnovers but could not manage to take the lead in the 2nd half due to poor shot selection. New Orleans shot 39% from the field and that hurt their chances of a comeback.

NC State was once again led by sophomore forward Brandon Costner. Costner hung 20 points on the squad from the Bayou. NC State managed to survive such sloppy play to hold to a narrow 9 point victory.

A big point in the game came midway during the 2nd half when, with NC State up only 5, freshman point guard, Javi Gonzalez, nailed 2 big 3's to push the lead out to 11. It was a dagger in the heart of the Privateers.

NC State will travel down to South Florida this week as they will be participating in the Old Spice Classic. Their first round matchup will be with Rider. Their is a chance that NC State and Villanova could meet up in the finals, but the field consists of challenges from South Carolina, Penn State, George Mason and Kansas State.

                      Recruiting News

5 Star Recruit from Florida makes visit to Raleigh

Highly touted recruit, Kamarr Duphant made a visit to Raleigh this past Sunday to not only watch the men's basketball team take on New Orleans, but to also visit the beautiful campus. Like many others, the first thing he said was how he could not believe how many bricks there are on campus.

Right now Duphant has 2 teams high on his interest. Those 2 teams are Florida State and North Carolina State. Scouts say that he has great shooting and athleticism but could work on his toughness and rebounding.

Orlando, Fl-- NC State traveled down to Orlando, Florida for a Thanksgiving weekend tournament called the Old Spice Classic. Round 1, they found themselves matched up with a tough Rider (0-1) squad, led by Jason Thompson, one of the best big guys in the country.

Well, NC State jumped out to an early 14-4 lead by making their first 7 shots. The hot shooting continued throughout the 1st half, which allowed the Wolfpack to pull out to a 39-24 halftime lead. NC State shot 60% in the first half.

But then the lid seemed to have been placed on both rims as Rider and NC State combined to score 32 total points in the 2nd half.

Freshman J.J. Hickson led the Wolfpack with 16 points off the bench, and Courtney Fells managed to help out with 14, but all the points were scored in the 1st half.

NC State will square off with Penn State (2-0) in the 2nd round of this tournament. Penn State managed to squeak by South Carolina in the first round with a 56-55 victory. If should be a tough challenge for this NC State team.

                        Record: 3-0

Orlando, Fl-- In what may have been one of the best games of the early season, the Penn State Nittany Lions (2-0) and the NC State Wolfpack played a wonderful game that came down to the end. Unfortunately for the Pack, Penn State got hot at the right moment to pull away with a big 3 point win.

The game was tight throughout with the biggest lead for either team being 7. These 2 teams took each others best blow and kept coming back for more.

NC State had no answer for Geary Claxton, the senior forward for Penn State. He racked up 25 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the Lions to victory.

NC State had 2 chances with 15 seconds but Courtney Fells missed 2 3-pointers, including one at the buzzer.

NC State will play Kansas State (2-1) for 3rd place in the Old Spice classic, and they will get a look a freshman phenom Michael Beasley.

Orlando, Fl-- Well this trip was not what the Wolfpack were looking for. After 3 easy wins to start the season, NC State has had 2 tough losses in a row due to 2nd half collapses in the last minute.

This time it was with a minute to go. Down by 2, Courtney Fells seemed to trip over Bill Walker's foot which caused him to lose the ball and set up an opportunity for the Wildcats to put the game away. And that they did.

Ben McCauley seemed to be the only NC State player would do anything consistently. He scored 22 points and had 9 rebounds in a losing effort.

Michael Beasley struggled in the first half with early foul trouble and had only 2 points. But the switch turned on for the freshman superstar, as he carried his team with 16 points in the 2nd half.

NC State now must get ready to travel to East Lansing and play the #6 Michigan State Spartans in the ACC/Big 10 Showdown.
