Takin' it to the next level

Takin' it to the next level
    Tiny Siena's quest to become more than a mid-major (ncaa B-Ball 10 all-american difficulty)
The last couple of years, the Siena Saints, a tiny catholic school in the tiny town of Loudonville, New York(they play in Albany, but the campus is in Loudonville), have been very successful. In fact, the last 2 years have been the most successful in school history. After shocking Vanderbilt in 2008, people knew they existed, but thats about it. Then last year, they won a thrilling, double overtime game with Ohio State in the first round of the ncaa tourney, then nearly upset #1 Louisville. That really caught the attention of america. And with 4 of 5 starters returning, as well as a bench that has much more depth than in has had the last 2 years, this is the season to show america "were not playing around anymore"

      Team

      Starting 5

      Center- #22- Ryan Rossiter

(6'9, Junior, 82 OVR)- Rossiter is the most improved player on the team. He is a tremendous rebounder, and is a possibility for MAAC player of the year. He has a lot of size for a MAAC center. Can step out and make a 15 ft jumper.

      Power Forward- #42- Alex Franklin

(6'5 Senior, 83 OVR)- Great player in general, tremendous strength and athletisiscm. Great rebounder and ball handler.

Small Forward- # 23- Edwin Ubiles

(6'6 senior, 84 OVR)- Easily the best all around player on the team. He can step out and make a three, and has a great jump shot. He can really flex his muscles on fast break dunks, and really plays to the crowd.

      Shooting Guard- #13- Clarence Jackson

(6'3 junior, 80 OVR)- Jackson is a pure shooter. He is a three point specialist(87 OVR 3pt). He doesn't have great ball handling skills, and isn't great in the paint, but he makes up for it with his shooting.

      Point Guard- #25- Ronald Moore

(5'11 senior, 80 OVR)- "The maestro". Unbelievable ball handler, and averages over 7 assists a game. Unbelievable court vision. Great on fast break. Not a great scorer, but he doesn't need to be.( But if your a saints fan, you know he can hit big shots)

      The Supporting Cast

      Small Forward- O.D. Anosike- #1
(6'7, freshman, 76 OVR)- The gem of the recruiting class. A very high ceiling. Great rebounder, going to be a starter next year.

      Shooting Guard-Kyle Downey- #3
(6'2, sophmore, 75 OVR)- Not great with the ball, but if he can get open, he can shoot. A good 3 point shooter. Will recieve a lot of playing time.

      Small Forward- Owen Wignot- #31
(6'6, sophmore, 72 OVR)- A defensive specialist. Tremendous shot blocker and rebounder. Can shoot a 3 if he needs to.

      The Rest
Justin-love Smith-Point guard- #3(64 OVR)- Gotta love the name, not so much the skills.

Conner Fenlon(67 OVR)- Point Guard, #0- Wont really play

Kyle Griffin- Guard- #5- He's got a decent 3 pt shot, might see a couple of minutes.

Franklin scores 28 as Saints win home opener.

With the way the season is starting for the Saints, it looks in these first 2 games that if one person is having an off night, someone else will step up and make up for it. That definitley happened today, as Alex Franklin accounted for nearly half of the Saints offense by scoring 28 points and grabbing 11 rebounds as they took out Northeastern (1-1) today, 62-54, in the home opener at the Times Union Center. Franklin scored 18 of his 28 in the final 10 minutes of the second half, and went 8-8 from the charity stripe, including 6 straight in the final minute seal it for Siena (2-0). Northeastern took a 38-31 lead going into the locker room, but the Saints full court press forced 13 turnovers, leading to several points on the break, and the Saints took their first lead, 46-43, with 11:03 left in the half on a three from reserve Kyle Griffin, who had a good game off the bench, scoring 8 points. Ryan Rossiter also scored 12 points, and finished just 1 rebound shy of his second straight double-double with 9. The Saints travel to take #25 Temple on Saturday.
