Restoring Glory in The Garden: Ehh's 2K11 New York Knicks

Change in plans. Since the patch has taken so long to come out and I've played so many exhibition games with the current Knick roster I'm going to simulate the first season and go from there. I started it tonight, so much for waiting for the patch.

    Level: Custom
    Minutes: 12
    Sliders: My own
Games Per Season: 82 (will not play all)
    Playbook: Custom

The first season with star free agent Amare Stoudemire was a disaster as the team went 34-48, missing the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season. The front office felt drastic changes needed to be made and they came from top to bottom in the organization.

Coach Mike D'Antoni was fired after three seasons, though 2010-2011 was his only season with a team philosophy that involved trying to win basketball games. Nevertheless, D'Antoni's system wore out its welcome in the Big Apple.

The Knicks made major roster changes as no player was safe from a potential move and all offers from other NBA organizations were entertained.

    Trades
    • OUT: Anthony Randolph IN: Ed Davis and TOR's 2011 1st Rd
    • OUT: Danilo Gallinari and Ronny Turiaf to LAC IN: Eric Gordon
    • OUT: Landry Fields and NYK 1st 2011 1st Rd IN: Roy Hibbert
    • OUT: Raymond Felton to MIL IN: Keyon Dooling and 2011 1st Rd

    * The Hibbert/Fields and Randolph/Davis trade happened mid-season. The Gallinari/Gordon and Felton trade happened on Draft Night.

    Free Agency

After coming up short with the 2010 free agent class the Knicks got their man in 2011, signing Carmelo Anthony to a 5 yr/$98M deal. The Knicks also added Kelena Azabuike, who originally refused to resign with the team but had a change of heart once Anthony signed.

The Knicks picked up the team option on Roy Hibbert but did not resign any other expiring deals/options, leaving the following players as free agents: Wilson Chandler, Bill Walker, Andy Rautins, Eddy Curry, Shawne Williams.

    Draft Picks

Despite shipping their own pick to Indiana, the Knicks had the 8th and 10th picks in the 2011 first round from Toronto and Milwaukee, respectively.

    8th pick - Jared Sullinger - Ohio State, PF 6'9 280 lbs
    10th pick - Kemba Walker - UConn, PG 6'1 172 lbs
    41st pick - Scotty Hopson - Tennessee, SG 6'7 200 lbs

    2011-12 Roster
