The Last Stand - A path to historical greatness for Phil Jackson and L.A. Lakers

As the seconds ticked off the clock. As Kobe Bryant chased the ball all the way down infront of the Celtics Bench. As Ron Artest made his way around the front row high-fiving anyone within arm distance the cameras were quick to shine the light on perhaps the greatest coach in the history of the NBA, Phil Jackson. Phil Jackson stood up on the stage during the Larry O'Brien championship presentation and then was asked what was going on out there the first 3 quarters? "We couldn't put the ball in the basket, but then the 4th quarter hit and we were able to get them in foul trouble and continued to be aggressive on the defensive end, but I don't think we are standing here if it wasn't for these great fans." Asked if he was going to retire or return and attempt to win his 4th three-peat, Phil said, "I am going to have a visit with my doctors this coming week and afterwards I will make a decision by next week."

This dynasty is dedicated to the greatest coach in NBA history. One of the coaches that I admire and have studied as I begin my 17th year as a basketball coach. Whether you look at as a challenge or an opportunity, Phil Jackson returned this season to do something no other coach in major sports has ever done. Pat Riley, Greg Popovich, Chuck Daly, Jerry Sloan, Red Auerbach, none of them did nor attempt what Phil is doing. He is going after his 4th three-peat as a coach. Since 1990 when he took over the Chicago Bulls, Phil Jackson has won 11 NBA championships, has coached in 13 NBA Finals all together in 20 years of coaching.

As only Phil Jackson could, he dubbed this season "His Final Stand." Can he lead the Lakers to their 6th championship? Will he be able to overcome the emotions when he goes to an arena for perhaps the last time? Follow Phil Jackson's "Final Stand" right here.

Very quickly want to explain the rosters. They are a custom roster set that I help edit with input from spreadsheets. The were edited after the trading deadline was over so all the major players involved in trades, Anthony, Billups, Wallace, Battier and so on are on their new teams. All D-League and call-ups are in free gency. I have turned off CPU Trading for at least the 2010-11 season. Follow and comment as the roster's I helped edit. Will see you at the end of the road.

Lakers receive their rings, raise their championship banner but are left defeated

LOS ANGELES, CA - It's a very rare occasion when the team receiving their championships rings and raising their championship banner is left holding their heads in shame at the end of the night, but last night that is what happened at STAPLES Center infront of 18,997 purple and gold fans. It started out like we would all expect with Kobe, Pau and Bynum getting the ball in their sweet spot and dominating the paint. The Lakers took a very early but commanding 22-12 lead midway through the first quarter, but the Houston Rockets would go on to outscore the Lakers 29-16 in the second quarter and put up 36 points in the third quarter to extend a ten point halftime lead to 17 going into the fourth quarter. Kobe Bryant, who led the Lakers with 29 points got the Lakers as close as eight points on several occasions, but Kevin Martin (31 points and 10 rebounds) had an answer for every run by the Lakers, hitting key shots at the right time. Terrence Williams, who was named the starting small forward before the game added 23 points on 10-18 shooting from the field. Yao Ming making his return after missing all of last season with an ankle injury played 33 minutes, scoring 6 points and grabbing 6 rebounds before fouling out in the fourth quarter. For the Lakers, Andrew Bynum was also making his return from off season surgery to his left knee and put up 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while shooting 7-11 from the field. His front court counterpart, Pau Gasol was plagued by foul trouble through the second half added 16 points and 9 rebounds on 7-12 shooting.

Report: Atlanta Hawks inquire Lakers about Odom and Artest

              LOS ANGELES, CA
              - It didn't take very long for rumors and questions be asked to Laker players after their opening night loss to the Houston Rockets. From poor shooting, to defensive lapses, every player and coach were put on the edge commenting on if the past three seasons is going to catch up to the Lakers rather than see them jump off to a fast start. Two Lakers who were engulfed with questions were long time friends, Lamar Odom and Ron Artest.

Yesterday a report surfaced out of Atlanta that the Hawks had called the Lakers to inquire on the availability of forwards Lamar Odom and Ron Artest. According to team sources the Hawks were feeling the Lakers out, offering starting power forward Josh Smith and backup point guard Jeff Teague. While it is well known knowledge that Odom has 2 year's left on his contract the Lakers have to start looking to the future and their needs to get a young, athletic guard. Jeff Teague could fill in that role, but the Lakers have been said that for at least this year the Fisher, Bryant, Brown, Blake back court is what they are committed to. This of course can change at anytime as can these possible trade scenarios.
