Re: The coaching career of Matt Lyon. (CH2k8)

Hanover, NH- After going 9-18 with a 4-10 conference record, Terry Dunn is out at head coach of the Dartmouth Big Green basketball team. Dunn was a combined 25-56 in his 3 years as head coach. Dartmouth happened to stumble on a guy by the name of Matt Lyon. Who is Matt Lyon? After playing varsity basketball all four years at Cary High School, he became the assistant head coach and after one season as assistant he became head coach. He was the head coach for five years. He had a record of 123-29 with 4 Tri-9 conference titles, and a state championship. There is still no word however on his assistants this season.

He also said this, "If i had a choice to coach anywhere, an Ivy League school has to be it. A solid athletic program and the top education a kid can get. Can't be better than that!"

Big Green gets crushed by Falcons

11/9/07- at Air Force (Hanger Challenge)

                  Final: 38-53

Dartmouth was keeping up with Air Force until halftime. The score at the half was 24-20 Air Force. But Dartmouth head coach made a big mistake. He played his starters too much and by the 2nd half they didn't have any energy left in them. Matt Lyon had this to say, "You learn from your mistakes." Another thing that hurt Dartmouth was 3-point shooting. 0-13 from beyond the arc. Lyon also said this, "Don't expect us to shoot threes from now on."

                  Key Stats-
                  A Barnett- 15 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks
                  R Pride- 4 points, 4 assists, 2 steals
                  D Mosley- 6 points, 1 assists

With the loss Dartmouth falls to 0-1. They will take on VMI (0-1) tomorrow in the 3rd place game.

VMI vs Dartmouth Hanger Challenge 3rd Place Game

Lyon gets his first win of his career

                        Final: 77-60

Dartmouth fans that made it all the way out to Colorado to watch the basketball team got something special. A 3rd place finish in the Hanger Challenge and new head coach Matt Lyon's first win as a D1 coach. After the game Lyon said, "This was a great feeling to win my first game. I would like to thank the lord for giving me this opportunity because who can say they won a game as a Division 1 basketball coach? Not many." A key reason for Dartmouth's win was DeVon Mosley, Dartmouth's arguably best player, had 22 points and played way better than last night against Air Force where he had only 6 points.

                        Key Players-
                        D Mosley 22 points, 2 steals
                        A Barnett 4 points, 14 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks
                        R Pride 12 points, 2 steals

Dartmouth now improves to 1-1 and will host 0-1 James Madison University next saturday.

                            James Madison vs Dartmouth

                            Dartmouth wins again

                            Final: 58-40

Dartmouth head coach Matt Lyon must have gave the team
an good pep talk because after being down 24-21 in the 1st half,
they outscored JMU 37-16 in the 2nd. Dartmouth star DeVon Mosley
did not play a good game and he isn't producing like he is expected to.
Lyon had this to say about him, "I don't know what going on with him.
He was great in practice. I could see that he was a little rusty in the Air Force game
but thats Air Force and this is James Madison. He should be scoring like 30 points a game.
Im going to have a talk with him tomorrow."

                            Key Players-
                            A Barnett- 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks
                            J Ball- 11 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal

Dartmouth improves to 2-1 with the W and will go to Rutgers University to take on the Scarlet Knights monday night.

                              Fitzgerald injured

Dartmouth backup center is day-to-day with a sore hamstring. He is expected to miss the Rutgers game but may come back for the Colgate game. Head coach Matt Lyon said this, "With out our backup center we are in huge trouble. Fitzgerald is also one of our best bench players. This is going to be frustrating..."
