Coaching Legacy of Wes Abercrombie (CH2k8)

New York(NY) - The Binghamton Bearcats have hired a relative unknown to coach their men's basketball program.

Wes Abercrombie, 25, was hired Sunday to take over the Bearcats program. Abercrombie, a graduate of Butler University and a Wisconsin native, looks to kick start a program that is looking to elevate itself to new heights.

After its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2008-09, Binghamton hasn't been back to the Big Dance.

"I look forward to the challenge. Despite being a native on the Midwest, I really look forward to bringing a culture of toughness and hard work to this Northeast university."

Abercrombie will begin work immediately as the season is just days away.

"I have to assemble a staff in the next few days and then hit the gym. We also need to start evaluating players on the recruiting trail. You can coach all you want, but you need the right types of players to be able to be successful. Our secondary break and tough defensive style really puts stress on the players, so we need to have a team full of players that can contribute on every night."

Binghamton starts the season next Friday on the road at St. Bonaventure

I was going to start a dynasty with Butler, but it just doesn't feel right not working my way up. So I am back to the career dynasty.

Looking for recruits to create. Will take the first ones posted up to 5 for the first season.

                Abercrombie Hires Two Assistants

New York(NY) - Newly announced Coach Wes Abercrombie has named two assistant coaches for his first season at Binghamton.

J.S. Doornekamp, 36, joins the coaching staff with little college coaching experience at the D1 level. Garrison played his college basketball at St. Johns and should provide the Vikings with a recruiting connection to the Northeast.

Doornekamp is a native of the Northeast. He grew up just outside of New York City and currently has a wife and a two year old little girl.

"I'm really excited to have Konimba on the staff. He brings an excitement that the team is really going to like. He has so much energy and he will really light up the recruiting trail for us."

Jerry Kohn, 30, will provide the coaching staff with a lot of energy. Hammond has made his rounds around the basketball landscape. Kohn graduated from Illinois-Chicago and has coached on the AAU circuit after short stint in the NBDL.

"Coach Kohn is someone that hasn't been around for a while, but he still has energy and can give a different perspective to our staff."

Abercrombie now heads off to the recruiting circuit to track down the talent that he talked about in his opening press conference.

Sorry for the long break on this. I had to get my computer fixed, which resulted in me losing the opening part of this dynasty and then I was really busy with work. However, I am off for the next few days and some next week, so I will get into a big chunk of this year. Let's get going.

PS - I will update the progress of the recruits at the beginning of the early signing period. Unlike NCAA Football, I can't pinpoint a rating or even star rating so I just went off feel. You both wound up being 5 stars due to your extreme height and skill sets. Each positive attribute was given 80. Each negative under 60 and everything else in the middle. Should be interesting.

Coach Abercrombie Opens Career with Convincing Win on the Road

                          Coach's Corner

"I thought it was a great way to start the year. We were really hitting on all cylinders from the start. I thought we played with great energy on both ends of the floor and made great decisions. If we are hitting 3's in transition, than that means we are really clicking offensively.
We do have a few things to work on for game 2, starting with our inside scoring. We really need to develop some inside game to get a few easy baskets, because the shots aren't always going to be dropping from the outside. Hopefully I can get our home slate started off as well as we had our road schedule started off."

                            Coach's Corner

"Wow did we struggle to score, but so did they. Our defense really bailed us out most of the day. Like I said after our first game. We really need to find a way to get some easy buckets. Our offense is going to have these days, because we really rely on a few guys from the outside right now.
We head to Chicago next and I look forward to getting our team focused and a little bit more efficient."

This dynasty looks really good so far! The only suggestion I have for you right now is to add about 3-5 minutes because those scores are way too low.
