The Celtics welcome Memphis to town for the first and only time this year. The Grizzlies have a very talented and deep roster, but their record doesn't reflect that. The Celtics just had their 11 game win streak snapped so they will be looking to start a new one with a win in this game.

PIERCE'S CLUTCH FREE THROWS GIVE CELTICS THE WIN

BOSTON -- The Celtics scratched and clawed their way back into this game against the Grizzlies, and in the end Paul Pierce showed everyone why they call him "The Truth". He sank two free throws to edge the Memphis Grizzlies 98-97.

Paul Pierce carried the Celtics on his back tonight as he recorded a season-high 38 points on 17-27 shooting. The Celtics played a good 1st quarter, but the next 2 1/2 quarters would belong to the Grizzlies.

They kept a steady lead on the Celtics all the way up to the middle of the 4th quarter when they even stretched their lead to double-digits. But the Celtics are too good and battle-tested to give up that easily. Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo would lead the 4th quarter charge to get the Celtics back in the game and take the lead.

After a 3 point shot that gave the Grizzlies a 1 point lead, Paul Pierce would silence all the critics with the next possession. He drove to his left and came off a screen set by Brandon Bass. The only thing that stood between him in the basket was O.J. Mayo. Pierce rose up in the air and was hacked by Mayo. The crowd pleaded for a flagrant foul but to no appeal. Pierce stepped to the line with much confidence, the crowd was so silent you could hear a penny drop. Both of his free throws never even touched the rim. Just nothing but net. His free throws gave the Celtics a 1 point lead.

There was still 5.6 seconds left on the clock for Memphis though. The ball was in the hands of Michael Conley for the last possession. He made a crossover and stepped back to shoot his mid range jumper, but Rajon Rondo's long wingspan came in handy as he sent Conley's jumper the other way.

Fans at the TD Garden were dancing in aisles with joy as they celebrated the thrilling victory.

"It's just another win," said Paul Pierce after the game. "It's a long season and you can't get too high or too low, but we're defintely going to enjoy this one for a day or two."

The Celtics have the next two days off then it's back to business against the Pistons Wednesday night.

These two teams are back at it again for the second time in less than a week. The Pistons put up a good fight against the Celtics, but in the end were defeated 106-94. Paul Pierce dropped 23 points that game, and the Celtics played most of the 2nd half without Kevin Garnett.

          RONDO, CELTICS RACE PAST PISTONS

BOSTON -- These two teams met less than a week ago and the Celtics won that matchup in convincing fashion. Well, nothing was different tonight. The only difference was they were playing in Boston this time and the Celtics dismantled the Pistons 113-91.

The Celtics got off to a hot start in the 1st quarter when they opened the game on a 20-4 run. They would never let their foot off the gas pedal and the rest was history.

Rajon Rondo had an outstanding game as he finished with a season-high 29 points and also added 15 assists to go along with that tonight.

"Tonight was just one of those nights when my jumpshot was falling," said Rondo. "People can criticize all they want, but I know what my strengths and weaknesses are."

The Celtics finished with 6 players in double-figures for the game. Brandon Bass continued building on his excellent season as he has provided a much needed spark off the bench for the Celtics. He notched a double-double when he finished the game with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

This sends the Pistons to a record of 4-12, and this was their 9th straight loss.

"We have a lot of work to do," said leading scorer Terrence Jones. "We're a long way from being good right now, and it's going to take hard work and dedication to get where we want to be."

The Celtics will have some time to rest up as they have the next 3 days off before they face the Minnesota Timberwolves who come to town Sunday night.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have caught the league by storm this year. They've jumped out to a 12-5 record and are 2nd in the Western Conference standings. Two terrific pass first point guards square off in this matchup. Rajon Rondo vs Ricky Rubio will be worth the admission price.

ALLEN LEADS 2ND HALF COMEBACK TO DEFEAT TIMBERWOLVES

BOSTON -- For a while it looked like the Timberwolves were going to come to Boston a steal a win from the Celtics, but Boston showed great resilience and pulled out the comeback win over the Timberwolves 101-96.

Minnesota got off to a hot start when they jumped out to a 36-20 lead after the 1st quarter. That is the most points the Celtics have given up in a quarter this year. Kevin Love scored 15 of his 33 points in the 1st quarter. Boston looked like they had no answer for the Timberwolves all quarter.

"We looked god awful that quarter," said head coach Doc Rivers. "It was just bad. I'm surprised we were only down 16 by the way we played."

The 2nd quarter was much of the same as the Timberwolves went into halftime with an 18 point lead. The 3rd quarter is when Ray Allen decided it was time to flip the switch to ON.

Ray Allen came out in the opening minutes of the 3rd quarter and 2 straight 3's to get the crowd into it and the Celtics into it. Paul Pierce would then take his turn at Minnesota next. He ripped off 10 straight points to cut the lead to 2, but the Timberwolves went on a run off their own to close out the 3rd quarter. When it was all said and done the Celtics made up some ground and cut the deficit to 6 going into the 4th quarter.

Much of the 4th quarter was back and forth and Minnesota maintaining a comfortable 6 or 8 point lead....until Ray Allen checked back into the game woth 4:00 remaining. He went on a tear scoring 12 of his 27 points in the final 4:00 minutes. His scoring outburt would give the Celtics a 6 point lead with under 1:25 remaining in the game. The Timberwolves would cut the lead to 3 points, but clutch free throws by Paul Pierce would seal the game for Boston.

"It was a great effort by the team," said Ray Allen. "We're a team that will never give up no matter how much the deficit is, and that is why we are where we are in the standings."

Boston had made a knack of coming back in the 2nd half this season. It may make it exciting for their fans, but not for head coach Doc Rivers.

"That stuff isn't going to work against the elite teams," said Rivers. "We have got to learn to do our work early and not wait till the 4th quarter."

Boston will close out their 5 game homestand Tuesday night when the Hornets come to town.

PIERCE DROPS 47 TO CARRY CELTICS PAST HORNETS

BOSTON -- Paul Pierce definitely brought his A game against the Hornets Tuesday night. The couldn't find an answer for him all night as he was constantly lighting them up basket after basket on his way to 47 points and a 100-93 victory for the Celtics.

The 1st half was a back and forth affair between the two teams. Both teams held the lead their fair share of times, and both teams made their runs at the appropriate times. When it was all said and done the Hornets a 3 point lead going into halftime.

The 3rd quarter belonged to Paul Pierce and Paul Pierce only. He asserted his will on the Hornets, scoring 18 points in the 3rd quarter alone. New Orleans looked helpless when trying to defend him.

"He was hitting everything tonight," said Trevor Ariza who guarded him most of the night. "It didn't matter what I did, because the shot would still go in."

The only problem was Paul Pierce was the only one on the Celtics team that had it going, so the Hornets still had a 4 point lead going into the 4th quarter.

Pierce continued his assault in the 4th quarter as he scored another 13 points in the period. Boston would regain the lead as they went on a 12-2 run to begin the quarter. The carried this momentum all the way to finish line.

The Hornets had a chance to tie the game up late when they were down by 3, but Ray Allen stole the pass intended for Terrence Williams and quickly threw it ahead to Paul Pierce. He was fouled and would hit 2 free throws to seal the game as chants of "MVP" sounded throughout the TD Garden.

The Celtics will now hit the road to face off against the Raptots. This divisional foe was the same team that ended their 11 game win streak back in late Novemeber. The Celtics have not lost since, winning their last 4 games.

I just noticed that you do the Memphis Grizzlies thread, and I love it so far. I've been following it daily so far, so keep up the good work as well.

The last time these two teams met was back at the end of November when the Raptors came to Boston an beat the Celtics 84-77. Andrea Bargnani had a solid game scoring 19 points. Kevin Garnett was injured and did not play in that last game, so he will definitely make a difference.

TORONTO -- The Celtics have been playing with fire the past couple of games and been getting away with it. Well, tonight it finallt burned them as they lost to the Raptors 110-99.

Horendous starts have become a theme for the Celtics the past couple of weeks. Doc Rivers has constantly stated that his team must get off to better starts, but they don't seem to get the picture. They had been finding ways to come back from their deficits, but they were unable to do so tonight.

Toronto jumped out to a 37-25 1st quarter lead and rode that momentum for the rest of the game. The Celtics made runs to cut the lead to 2 and 3 points here and there, but could never seem to grab ahold of the lead.

The Raptors main game tonight was attacking the rim. They got to the free throw line 35 times, compared to Celtics who only went to the line 8 times.

"I'm just going to come out and say it," said Kevin Garnett. "The officiating tonight was terrible; it sucked. Never in my career have I seen a more poorly officiated game. I mean we shot 8 free throws the entire game! It makes no sense. They get payed good money, so they need to do their job just like we do our job. I know David Stern is going to hear this, and I know I'll probably be handing over a nice sized check to him, but I just had to say something about it."

Perry Jones led his team in scoring with 23 points and also added 10 rebounds to go with it.

Paul Pierce continued his hot streak as he finished with 27 points. This was his 7th straight game scoring 20+ points.

The Celtics will try and put this game behind them as their next game is against their division rival New York Knicks. The Knicks have struggled this season, but these two teams always provide a good game when they get together.
