Apocalypse Brow: A New Orleans Hornets Association

    Game: NBA 2k13
    Rosters: Default
    Sliders: Default
    Sim Quarter Length: 12 Minutes
    Draft Class: TBA
    Season Length: 82 Games
    Playoff Format: 7-7-7-7
    Injuries: On
    Progressive Fatigue: On
    Player Roles: On
    Team Chemistry: On

This will be primarily a simulation association - I may end up using coach mode or actually playing a few games a season, but in general I want this to be about building the team across multiple seasons to get this young squad a championship. I'll obviously make adjustments in between games with the rotation, sim control, etc. I'm going to attempt to be as realistic as possible, but as this is a video game there's no guarantees of that happening, haha. Hope you enjoy!

    Hornets Overhaul Front Office
    September 23, 2012

The New Orleans Hornets have fired their entire front office, including GM Dell Demps. New owner Tom Benson has this statement for hornets.com:

"I respect what Dell Demps and our previous front office did for the team, and it's nothing against them - with our new look on the court, we also need a new look off of it as well. I regret the firing of Dell and the rest of the staff, but unfortunately we need to move on and start again."

The new GM is a relative unknown - Ted Harrison. Harrison, however, has led several European teams to success in Spain, Italy, and England. Harrison has already been active as the team's GM: he has barely left the headquarters since he was hired. Harrison had this for hornets.com:

"Before I say anything, I want to give my respects to Dell Demps and the previous front office. They did a fantastic job in a tough situation, with no owner and a player who wanted to leave in Chris Paul. I know some people may not know who I am, or have much confidence in me; but I really do think I am the right person for this job. I want to make this team better, and my goal above all is to a win a championship and bring glory to the city of New Orleans. I look forward to working with all involved in the organization.

The new season starts in a little over a month.

      Hornets sign Leandro Barbosa
      October 20th, 2012

Ted Harrison has made his first signing as the GM of the New Orleans Hornets. He's signed speedy shooting guard Leandro Barbosa to a one year, 5.11mil dollar deal. Barbosa was said to be looking for a deal with a contender, but none ever came. However, he still demanded a high price tag for a 29 year old role player, and one that the Hornets believe is worth it. This signing proves they are looking to win, and do it now.

The Hornets now have two guards off the bench who can lead the second unit - Barbosa and rookie Austin Rivers.

Breaking down the 2012-13 New Orleans Hornets
          October 28, 2012

With the season starting in a few days, the New Orleans Hornets roster seems to be set - for now. The addition of #1 pick Anthony Davis and #10 pick Austin Rivers, along with talented shooters Ryan Anderson and Leandro Barbosa, should help the team be more competitive after a (in many aspects) terrible 2011-12 season from the squad. Playoffs are not out of the question, although they may still be a few years away.

Point Guard: With starter Grievis Vasquez and back-up Austin Rivers, the point guard position is nothing special. Vasquez has proven to be a solid NBA PG. His passing skills seem to improve in 2011-12. Rivers, on the other hand, is a bit of a question mark at point guard. He never was truly known for his passing in college, and the beginning of his time in the NBA may be a bit rocky. But he can be a great scorer, and should at least contribute through occasional flash on the offensive end.

Shooting Guard: With the signing of Leandro Barbosa and the re-signing of Eric Gordon, shooting guard might end up being the Hornets' strongest position in the new season. The only problem is Gordon's ability to stay on the floor. If he can play 70-82 games, the Hornets should be in good position. Barbosa has proven to be inconsistent the past few years, but he should still have enough solid games to be an important contributor to the team.

Small Forward: Small forward might be the weakest position for the new look Hornets. Current starter Al-Farouq Aminu might end up being a solid NBA player, but he has yet to reach the expectations of the top 10 pick that he is. His back-up is rookie second round pick Darius Miller. He was a solid shooter in college, but time will tell if he will ever be more than a role player in the NBA.

Power forward: The Hornets have many different options with their big men, but the current plan is to start Ryan Anderson at PF. Anderson had a bit of a break out year with the Magic. He was lights out from behind the arc, and the Hornets certainly hope he will continue that level of play. Hakim Warrick and Jason Smith will split time off the bench, and will mostly provide hustle and defense.

Center: Anthony Davis will receive the start at center for the Hornets. As the number one overall pick in the 2012 Draft, expectations are high for the Brow. He may have to bulk up a bit before he can truly go up against the best NBA centers, but in a league that seems to be going small he should be decent enough. Robin Lopez will attempt to provide a defensive presence off the bench, and a big body against bigger NBA centers.

Prediction: 34-48. The Hornets should be competitive, but might need a few more years of experience before their young players truly come into their own before they make the postseason.

The Hornets start their season on Halloween against a Spurs squad that has championship aspirations. Only an all-around great game will allow the Hornets to get the win against the cohesive Popovich-led Spurs. Anthony Davis will face a tough test in his first game as a pro guarding future Hall of Famer Tim Duncan.

Hornets stun Spurs, 105-103 in Anthony Davis' Debut
Rookie finishes with 21 points, 8 boards

The new look New Orleans Hornets got off to a great start in their first game together. Rookie Anthony Davis held Tim Duncan to 11 points on 4-17 shooting, and Grievis Vasquez led the team with 22 points and 8 assists.

The Spurs were able to narrowly win the first three quarters, but a strong 35 point 4th by the Hornets surged them to the narrowest of victories. The Spurs had a chance to tie or win the game at the last second, but it was missed and Davis came up with the rebound.

New signings Leandro Barbosa and Ryan Anderson had solid debuts, although they led the team in turnovers.

The Hornets will play another game at home against the Utah Jazz on November 2nd before traveling to Chicago on the 3rd.

The Jazz may not be one of the most star studded teams in the NBA, but they are solid. The big man combination of Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson is tough to stop, and Anthony Davis may end up struggling against a bigger center in Jefferson. Eric Gordon and Grievis Vasquez should be able to take advantage of a fairly mediocre backcourt.

Jazz Use Threes to Down Hornets, 121-118
Mo Williams hits season high 7 treys

After a great win against the Spurs on Wednesday, the Hornets were sent back down to earth after losing to the Jazz. Utah was red hot from behind the arc, hitting 66% of their shots from beyond the arc. Mo Williams hit half of the team's threes and had 29 points along with 8 assists and 6 boards.

Anthony Davis had his first NBA double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, but he was having trouble getting his shot to fall while dealing with Al Jefferson, who was playing strong defense through the entire game.

Eric Gordon had a Hornets high 29 points on 19 shots to keep pace with Williams, and Leandro Barbosa shot 6-7 for 14 points in his second game with his new squad, but it was not enough to keep up with the red hot from long range Jazz.

The Hornets play the Bulls tomorrow night before a 3 day break.

The Hornets complete their first back-to-back of the season on Sunday against the Chicago Bulls. Their star player, Derrick Rose, is in a bit of a shooting slump. Through the team's first two games, he's shooting 36 percent from the field and 27 percent from deep. He'll hope to get hot against a Hornets team that couldn't play a lick of defense beyond the arc in their last game.

Brow Out: Davis injured in 111-97 loss
Dislocated finger keeps him out for 1-2 weeks

Anthony Davis' 22 points and 9 rebounds against the Bulls were not enough to lead his team to a victory - and on top of that, Davis dislocated his finger. Team doctors say he will be out for two weeks.

For the second straight game, the Hornets weren't able to get close to taking control as Carlos Boozer (player of the game with 24pts/14rebs) was too much to handle.

Robin Lopez is expected to start in Davis' place while he recovers from his injury.

The Hornets get a game at home after losing their first one on the road against Chicago. Anthony Davis' dislocated finger is healing nicely and he could return soon, but he will be out against the Sixers, who are looking to even their record. Robin Lopez will have to shut down Andrew Bynum in his first start for the Hornets to get the win.

Not Again! Gordon Strains Achilles in Hornets Win
Team manages to even record at 2-2

Hornets star player Eric Gordon managed to play all of 12 minutes before he strained his Achilles in the latest of a string of injury woes for the young shooting guard. The Hornets lose their second starter in as many games after Anthony Davis was injured against the Bulls.

Leandro Barbosa managed to pick up the slack, however, scoring 18 points. Ryan Anderson had his second straight double-double with 23 points and 11 boards. Robin Lopez managed to shut down Andrew Bynum, holding him to just 9 points on 3-12 shooting (including a missed three).

The Hornets hope to start a winning streak against the Bobcats on Friday night.

Anthony Davis will miss his second straight game against the Bobcats friday night in what should have been the first in game meeting of former teammates Davis and Bobcats forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. The Bobcats are looking for their first win all season, while the Hornets hope to win their second in a row without their two stars.

Hornets Outlast Bobcats In Ugly Game
Barbosa leads Hornets with 17 in first starting performance

No Anthony Davis, no Eric Gordon - but the Hornets still managed to come up with a victory against a struggling Bobcats squad that is now winless in 4 games. The Hornets were able to begin their first multi-game winning streak of the season.

Leandro Barbosa was the leading scorer with 17 points, and he performed well in his first game as a starter. Robin Lopez had another solid defensive game against Brendan Haywood, holding him to 6 points on 1-4 shooting.

Davis is still day-to-day with a dislocated finger, but the team hopes to have him back for the Nov. 14th game against the Rockets in Houston.
