Brooklyn, New York - The time is finally here. a major sports team is back in the city of Brooklyn for the first time in over 50 years. The Nets franchise was first established in 1966 as a founding member of the American Basketball Association.

Since then, they've had their share of stars, share of ups and downs, but no NBA championship to show for any of their efforts. From Drazen Petrovic, to Jason Kidd, Vince Carter and now Deron Williams. There final seasons in New Jersey weren't memorable ones.

After failing to secure LeBron James, D. Wade, Chris Bosh and Dwight Howard, the Nets knew they had to rebuild around all star point guard Deron Williams. With the support of new ownership, Nets GM Billy King did just that.

Securing guys like All Star SG Joe Johnson, PG CJ Watson, PF Andray Blatche and veteran Jerry Stackhouse to go along with guys like Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries and Gerald Wallace, the Nets finally look like a team that could make a deep playoff run. Only time will tell if this is a new team, or just the same face in a different place...

Looking forward to seeing what the Nets can do. The team is constructed for the short term IMO ... within 2-3 years they need to have a championship otherwise by year 4 they're gonna be struggling to compete with how much cap debt they'll be in.

Brooklyn Nets Team Preview

Point Guard: All Star PG Deron Williams leads the Nets front court as he's done for the past two seasons. The Nets had quite the scare this off-season when it looked like Williams might bolt the Nets for his hometown Dallas Mavs; but, the Nets ownership showed they were serious about winning, and convinced Deron to stick around. Let's see if he can build on his own individual success from last year where he averaged 21 points and 8.7 assists. He's a monster from 3 point land, and has the driving ability to give opposing teams nightmares from the arc or inside. Should be a definite all-star.

He's backed up by former Bulls and Warriors player C.J. Watson in what could be one of the most underrated acquisitions of the off-season. He averaged close to 10 PPG last year, and has good range from three, and is a decent defender on the perimeter. Is going to be an excellent addition off the bench.

Then we have the rookie Tyshawn Taylor. He won't get a lot of playing time this year, but when he does, he has the potential to get hot in spurts Hopefully develops into a good role player for us this year.

Shooting Guard: Obviously Joe Johnson is our number 1 swingman this year. A GREAT scorer, he can get points from anywhere on the court. His production has dipped a bit the past few years when he was with Atlanta, but the Nets are hoping that playing with D. Will will get him back to his 22 point a game form that earned him his huge max contract. He has high hopes for his upcoming years in Brooklyn, and there's no reason he or the Brooklyn fans shouldn't.

Coming off the bench we have Marshon Brooks, 2nd year man out of Providence who can also light up the basket with the best of them. Should be INSTANT scoring off the bench, this guy is no joke when he has the rock in his hand. Coach Avery Johnson expects him to be the sixth man, and a huge part of this team. Behind him are veterans Keith Bogans and Jerry Stackhouse.

Small Forward: "Crash" Gerald Wallace is our man at the 3 this year. Coming off a 14 PPG year last season, it wasn't his best, so he's looking to get back into top form this year in Brooklyn. Drives the rim with reckless abandon and plays defense like no other, we're looking for this guy to be the emotional leader of our team and make big plays when we need him. And need him we will, there's not much backup at the SF position besides Josh Childress, so hopefully Wallace can stay healthy the majority of the season.

Power Forward: Kris Humphries will get the start at the 4 this year, he's a fan favorite with Nets fans, and for good reason. He's averaged a double double the past two seasons, including last year where he had his best season of his 9 year career averaging 14 points and 11 rebounds. He's a scrapper, getting offensive rebounds and putting them back up with the best of them. Also has a midrange game and can run the fast break with the best of them.

Not far behind him is another new Net, Andray Blatche. The Nets are hoping he can get back to his 10-11 form where he averaged 17 points and 8 boards a game. Those are damn near All Star numbers. Should be a GREAT inclusion off the bench in the front court.

Center: We have one official center on the roster, and he has the chance of being the best player on our entire team. Before he got hit with an injury five games into last year, he was continuing his 20 PPG success of 10-11 with 19 PPG. The only knock on Brook is that his rebounding numbers have dipped every single year he's been in the NBA. That is an alarming fact for Nets fans and coaches, as having a big man who can't rebound can be detrimental to your success. If he can get his rebounding together, the Nets can have one of the best frontcourts in the NBA with him and Kris Humphries roaming the glass. We know he'll get his points, but defense and rebounding are a main priority.

Brooklyn is ushering in a new era of basketball in New York City and are out to prove that they're the best team in the city. The Knicks have had a stronghold on NYC Basketball for decades, but who better than Brooklyn to knock them off. If they're going to accomplish that, it starts here and now. It should be a fantastic game in the Barclays center, both teams match up pretty evenly. Brooklyn will have their hands full trying to hold Carmelo Anthony in check, one of the best scorers in the game. They'll try to match his production with Joe Johnson and Deron Williams. The Knicks can get hot quick from anywhere on the court. They have excellent three point shooters at every position and we'll have to play the perimeter with a fierceness, and let's just hope Blatche and Humphries can handle Amare on the low block. It should be a great game to open up the Brooklyn Nets ers!

Yeah, the logo should have been updated by now.

Anyways, nice preview of the game. I'm thinking Ronnie Brewer is gonna be trouble for Joe Johnson ... he was a key contributor for the Bulls and the Knicks did right by getting him. Plus, JJ is going against his old coach-I bet Woodson has some serious intel on Johnson.
