Step in my Shoes: CYOA My Player Chise

    Bad Boy, Dishing Controversy
Brief Introduction: Well, for those that have been around for a while, you might remember my old chise with the Bulls for 2k11. I introduced story elements to that chise but it never felt quite right and I intend on fixing that. So, I am now officially back for a new chise!

    Obligatory "House Rules"
    Game: NBA 2k13
    Difficulty: All-Star
    Sliders: Simulation
    Quarter Length: 12 Minutes
Miscellaneous: Player will start at a 75 overall with a very specific skill set selected by readers. Development will occur according to contract, endorsements, etc. I will not use the virtual currency as a means of determining progression, I will use my own system that will translate into virtual currency. For example, if you select some options, you may sign an endorsement deal with Subway and receive a set amount of virtual currency, which I will give select options on how it can be spent. (+5 to defensive rebounding, +2 to 3 point shot, etc.)
Updates: I will update this chise on a weekly basis with one single update. This is to prevent me from getting burnt out too quickly.
*All of these house rules may be subject to change.

Re: Step in my Shoes: CYOA My Player Chise

      A Brand New Beginning
"There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth… not going all the way, and not starting.
      -Buddha"

Keenan nonchalantly let out a manufactured yawn. It was days before the "Rookie Showcase" and here he was appearing to get drug tested, quizzed, or both. He was unsure. He heard of this initiatory process from former players and was eager to complete it so he could get some rest before the big day. Rumors swirled about the idiocy of those that would run and operate these exams, he hoped the word of his fellow NBA hopefuls would fail.

Keenan was sporting his five dollar Wal-Mart sweats complimented by his white tee he typically wore to bed. Professionalism was clearly an after thought for him. His hair was unkempt and it appeared as if he just rolled out of bed. Further observation would reveal a few pizza stains between his knee and thigh on his right leg that could only further confirm that assumption.

The complex itself was fairly impressive. Keenan regretted his choice of attire almost immediately after arriving. Everything looked shiny and new, very Feng Shui. "Jenny", the "Associate" (As evident by her name tag) that walked by was dressed professionally and Keenan thought she gave him a disconcerting look, surely a result of his appearance.

Shrugging off the immediate discomfort felt he walked to an area that indicated he was in the right spot because of a large banner that said "Rookie Showcase". He approached "Kara", the "Receptionist" (Another name tag! These people are important).

"Kara, I am here for the rookie showcase examination." He said trying to sound as proper as possible. His eyes wandered to the banner when he did not receive an immediate response to double check.

"Can I have your name please?" Her nasally voice irritated Keenan.

"Keenan. Keenan Marshall." He said, full of confidence. At least he couldn't fail this part, if there even was a part to fail in the first place.

"Yes, I see your name here." She said gesturing to her list that she picked up and scanned through briefly. "You are our first to arrive. Please follow me this way." She said as she stood and began walking through a few doors, a couple hall ways, and to a room titled "Exam Room 1".

She smiled as she placed her hand on the door and opened it slowly. Keenan expected something spectacular but was disappointed when it appeared to be a regular doctors office with a scale, a spinny chair, and of course, the "checking seat". The real term for this seat escaped Keenan but he knew that was the place that caused him tears when he was a child getting poked with needles.

The doctor was short, scrawny, and looked like he just appeared on the nerds R us magazine. His smile seemed to mask his physical flaws for a moment due to the seemingly perfection of it.

"Please sit." He said gesturing towards the "checking seat". Keenan hesitant to sit did so anyways. "Lets see what we have here mister......Keenan...Marshall." He looked over a paper that he was given from the "receptionist". His eyes moved frantically up and down the paper and Keenan could only wonder what information this man could possibly have on him.

"Okay, lets get your height and weight."

      B) Shooting Guard

"Interesting. One more question. What college did you come from?"

      Choice #6
Open Choice. List three different colleges according to preference. This may or may not affect the story.

"I thought I recognized you from somewhere." His smile was contagious. You smiled even though you did not want to. This guy was sort of creepy. "I need you to change into this outfit." He handed over a disposable paper robe. "Use the bathroom right there and pee in this cup for me." He said still smiling. "After that, we will do a physical on you and then you are free to leave."

      __________________________________________________ _______________

Please format your response like this for ease of counting:

      1: A
      2: A
      3: F
      4: I, K
      5: B, G
      6: Kentucky, Butler, Illinois

This update is short. Future updates will be longer but since this is the player creation update, it has to be short. I do not want to play abnormal heights for a position so I am reserving the right to disqualify a height selection based on the position selected (e.g 6'11" PG or 6'3" PF or C)

Re: Step in my Shoes: CYOA My Player Chise

DUDE! So excited to see you chising again. I remember the Bulls chise from 2K11 (I was running a Pacers chise at the time) and so I'm thrilled to see a familiar face again.

Like the approach you have going here. Here's my answers.

        1. B (combo guard potential)
        2. A (running the offense FTW)
        3. A (help your team in all phases)
        4. I, K (make your name diming and shakin fools down)
        5. D, G (Speed kills)
        6. Florida (Go Gators ... total homer pick), USC (OJ Mayo 2.0?), St. Johns (why not?)
        Any comments are welcome.

I remember your Pacers chise, for sure. I'm not gonna lie, I got inspiration to do a more story oriented chise from your new one and that Unstoppabulls one. I haven't quite caught up on the story yet but I'm getting through it slowly. Good to see old faces around this part. Thanks for the post, at least now I can roll with something to kick off my chise.

Re: Step in my Shoes: CYOA My Player Chise

Side Note: These beginning updates will not contain choices. I will set the stage and then the choices will come when there is a good enough following to warrant choices. I had some time tonight and an itch to write something.

Excuse Me, Let Me Introduce Myself
"Not sure why people call me arrogant. I'm far too perfect to be called that."

            Present Day
"Keenan....Keenan...Keenan. You've created quite the mess for yourself if I am involved." A tall bald headed man said as he paced back and forth inside the interrogation room.

His black suit and black gloves seemed to indicate a professional hitman but this man presented himself more like a businessman than a killer. The interrogation room may have been a bit of an exaggeration but the nicely lit, clean, mint room had nothing in it but a table and a chair, which he found himself sitting in.

            "Look..."

"Woah. Did you just talk?" The man asked, obviously rhetorically. "This is not the type of meeting where you get to talk. Lets get that straight." He stopped pacing briefly. His eyes narrowed and penetrated through me, he was serious.

I nodded my head acknowledging to play by his rules. "Good, at least your not so stupid you don't know your place." His demeaning tone left me clenching my fists. The other two guys in the room with him, prevented me from acting impulsively.

"I am not going to lie to you, boy. Things are looking grim for you. 'Death penalty' is a word that has been thrown around. I can tell you more than one person has toyed with the idea." He paused. Never before had words stung more than they did now. Death? How could it have come to this?

"I see that got your attention. Well, it's about damn time. I want you to tell me..." A knock on the door stopped him from finishing his sentence.

"Come in." His voice was irritated and hurried. His eyes never once left me.

The door opened and a shorter fellow with black rimmed glasses and a black suit walked in. His hair was shorter with a part to the left. His shoes were so shiny you could probably see your own reflection off them.

"James Wages is in the other room. I was told you need to speak with him before you carry on this.....trial." Monotony was all over his voice yet he sounded so official up until he said the word trial. The man seemed as if he was rarely sarcastic but that was all that could be used to describe his use of the word.

The bald headed man did not break his gaze off me. He was angry. "Looks like this will be postponed for the time being. Congratulations. You now get to sit in this room with nothing but your guilty conscience." He slammed his fist on the table and exited the room. His two goons trailed behind him.

Immediately my mind began recounting what happened. My mind went all the way to the beginning.

            Flashback: Rookie Showcase
            Pre-Game
            Statline: 24 Minutes, 3 Points, 5 Rebounds, 13 Assists, 5 Turnovers

I walked onto that court like I owned it. I'd be damned if Damian Lillard, the Weber State kid, would show me up. He was a couple inches shorter than me so I knew my vision would be unhindered by his height. I walked over to half court during warm ups and engaged in a pre-game ritual dating back to elementary school. Trash talking.

"Lillard, you better bring your A game tonight, man. You should be grateful if you make second round in the draft when I'm through with you." I heckled him from afar. I noticed a few people in the crowd jotting some notes down, clearly the press.

Players took notice as well. One player in particular, James Wages. He was a third string point guard in this game. I knew little of the kid except what I looked at on a few scouting reports. He apparently had active hands and a decent mid range game to boot.

Lillard only shook his head in response and got back to warm ups. "Come on, man. You wont be able to ignore me on the court." I continued as he began walking away.

"You better pray I don't get in this game Marshall." Wages spoke up. He was 6'4" around my weight. His afro was a bit distracting from the rest of his appearance but he wore it well.

I laughed. I didn't know what else to do. This kid had almost no buzz surrounding his name. "Sorry bro, I don't know you." I turned around and got back to warm ups.

            Second Quarter
The game was going well for me, not the team. I didn't give a damn about the team though. Tonight was all about displaying your own individual skills. I wasn't sure about the assists but I had to be doing pretty well.

Lillard was a handful. His jump shot was clutch. He even engaged in some trash talk after he drained a three pointer in my face. I didn't take his little display of trash talking well. The next play I ran the kid over driving to the hoop. I finished with a dramatic dunk and pounded my chest as I did so. The crowd ate it up but the referees had other plans.

            *Whistle Blows*

"Foul on number one, charging." His gestures were dramatic. He was clearly not a fan of my dramatics. "Do something like that again, son, and the whistle will blow every time you breathe on someone."

"Idle threats" is all I could think to myself. To my surprise, the opposing team put in James Wages. "Looks like your getting your shot against me. Don't screw things up too much." I said to him as I ran past him. He looked nervous, naturally.

What happened after that was a blur. I displayed the worst brand of basketball I ever had in three minutes. James Wages had my number. I, uncharacteristically, committed five turnovers in less than three minutes before I was pulled from the game. James Wages heckled me the whole time too.

"Should have prayed harder." He said with a wide grin gracing his obnoxious face as I dragged my feet to the bench.

That was the beginning of my first professional rival. I made up for my short comings in those three minutes in a losing effort but he ruffled my feathers for that one moment and I never, ever forget easily.

And we have a rival ... how does James Wages play into all this? Questions, questions.
