Unleash the Beast - Tony Cross Story

    Platform: XBOX 360
    Sliders: Custom
    Roster: VTCRB and EAGLEROCK
    Current Draft Class: Custom
    Season Length: 82 Games
    Playoff Formatting: 7-7-7-7
    Difficulty: Superstar

This is it everyone my new chise. As you may or may not know my last chise (the Alvin Lloyd Story) was erased due to an accidental attempt by my nephew. I’ve decided to go ahead and make a new chise, but this time I’m not gonna do a GM story based chise instead a player story based. This is how this chise is going to go. I will not be playing every game I will play maybe one game every 5 games depending on my mood and time I can put into it. Play vision will be on, plays will be on auto. I am not one of those players who press the A button constantly and try to average over 50 points a game. This will be as real as possible. My created player will play on whatever team that drafts him with the 2013 draft class in the 2013 NBA Draft alongside Shabazz, Zeller, McAdoo, etc. The first season will start TODAY then I will sim the entire first season until we get to the draft. I will be using player lock on my player whenever he is in the game. I will make coach mode active when my player is subbed out and when I’m subbed back in I will turn it off and play.

    Tony Cross Story

    April 8, 2013
    Atlanta, GA (Georgia Dome)

This was it only 36 seconds left on the clock.

The NCAA National Championship Game between the NC State Wolfpack and the Arizona Wildcats may go down as one of the greatest games in NCAA history.

NC State is ahead of Arizona 79-76 and Arizona has the ball.

During the timeout Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller draws up a play that puts all his faith in one player who has been consistent in clutch situations up to this point.

“Alright that’s the play. Tony, remember don’t look at the clock just take the right shot,” Coach Miller confidently tells Tony.

Tony nods and the players take their walk back on the court.

Brandon Ashley inbounds the ball to Mark Lyons and immediately he puts his hand in the air signaling the start of the play.

After holding the ball for 10 seconds finally Arizona begins the play setting multiple screens for Mark while Solomon Hill and Tony get open.

Drawing most of the defense’s attention Solomon finds his self at the top of the key and once Lyon lures the defense closer to the paint he passes to Solomon.

NC State’s Scott Wood sees the ball land in Solomon’s hands and quickly charges towards him to put pressure on him, but as Scott tries to defend Solomon and the defense with their attention on Hill now he quickly passes the ball to a wide open Tony Cross.

Standing behind the 3 point line in the corner with no defender around Tony takes a jump shot.

Once the ball left was fired from his hand Tony leaves his shooting form up showing the confidence in his shot.

With 18 seconds left on the clock the 3 pointer falls and the teams are now tied at 79 a piece.

    NC State expectantly calls timeout.

The Arizona fans roared through the arena showing their excitement and approval of their Wildcats’ efforts to win a championship.

Tony’s teammates storm towards him excited patting him and hugging him during the timeout.

Once the team makes it to the bench Coach Miller calms everyone down before stating, “This still isn’t over we have a chance to go overtime.”

Sean is interrupted by Tony as he adds, “We going for the win, Coach! Let’s full court press and hope for the best!”

Sean smiles and nods his head then continues saying, “You heard him. Let’s go out here and cause a turnover.”

After the timeout the teams set up; the Wolfpack trying to inbound the ball and the Wildcats full court pressing hoping to cause a turnover.

With C.J. Leslie trying to inbound the ball his teammates were tightly guarded and it was hard to pin point the pass to not cause a turnover but he was able to pass it to a passing Rodney Purvis.

Once Purvis got the ball he tried to turn and run away from his defender at full speed not realizing that Lyon in front of him and they collide.

The ref blows the whistle once they fall to the ground and signals a blocking foul on Mark.

The Arizona fans in attendance gives out a loud boo while the NC State fans cheers in agreement.

With NC State in the bonus Rodney Purvis goes to the line and has the opportunity to give a one to two point lead for his team.

Shooting 55% from the line for the season Rodney shoots his first free throw and makes it.

Rodney does his free throw ritual as the entire arena is in silence.

He shoots the second free throw and simultaneously everyone in attendance takes a deep breath.

Rodney’s shot bounces off the backboard then rolls on rim before falling off.

Immediately as Kaleb Tarczewski secures the rebound Coach Miller calls a timeout.

It was mix reactions through the attendance inside the Georgia Dome.

“Give it to Tony. No matter what happens I’ll be satisfied, I trust Tony,” senior Solomon Hill announced to the team.

“Tony you ready to give it one last try?” asked Sean Miller with a proud grin on his face.

“You can count on me, team,” stated Tony as he reached his hand out in front of him.

The rest of the team followed suit putting their hands on top of Tony’s.

“Win on 3, win on 3!” Lyon shouts.

“1! 2! 3! Win!” shouted the team before heading back out on the court.

Quickly, Brandon Ashley and Solomon Hill talks to Tony privately before getting into position to start the last possible play of the game.

NC State is going to full court press as Arizona tries to inbound the ball.

Ashley gets the ball and was able to get the ball to Mark.

Mark pauses for a moment then bounces the ball into Tony’s hands.

Tony walks up the court dribbling the ball with his right hand as his teammates part like the Red Sea giving him enough room to do his magic.

Tony starts sizing up CJ Leslie, who is trying to be one of the few to stop Tony from winning the game for his team.

Tony runs to his left then crosses to his right but Leslie was able to mimic his every move not allowing him to get no where near the paint.

Tony grins at Leslie then runs to his right towards this teammate Solomon causing Scott Wood to decide to double team Tony.

Once double teamed Solomon set a screen for Ashley who cuts towards the basket Tony facing Solomon’s direction bounce passes to the cutting Ashley, who catches the ball and then hammers it down with two hands.

    ----------------------------------------------------

“What a battle this team had to compete in. NC State gave you their best shot but it just wasn’t enough, so I’m proud to reward this trophy to this team. After a long journey going against tough competition I’d like to congratulate the Arizona Wildcats on becoming the 2013 National Champions.”

Cheers roared through the arena as Arizona coach Sean Miller is given the NCAA Championship trophy and he lifts it up with all the players reaching towards it.

“You have been though a lot and some say that making it here is because of a strong play from you’re freshman sensation Tony Cross. With that strong play he showcased in the tournament especially the Final Four is why he is awarded and named the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Congratulations Tony Cross!”

Tony shakes hands with the commissioner and receives his trophy as the audience cheers and his teammates patting him on his back and head.

After a long season the Arizona Wildcats goes 35-5 finishing their great season off winning their second all-time National Championship all thanks to a player who was later named Wooden Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year; Tony Cross.

      Tony Cross Story

The big question continuously found its way to Tony Cross.

He didn’t know what to do but just prepared for the upcoming year.

Everywhere Tony went whether it was in school or at the gas station someone finds the courage to ask him this question.

It was a hard thing to answer, because unlike some players he wasn’t going to rush into anything.

“I don’t know what to do, Coach. I want to go but I don’t know if I’m ready. I could be a bust,” questioned Tony confiding in his coach Sean Miller.

“You want to be honest with you, Tony?” asked Miller.

      “Yes, please,” Tony begged.

      “Enter the draft.”

Tony was stunned; he couldn’t be his coach was willing to lose his star player.

“You asked and I’m being honest. You’re ready, Tony.”

Tony stood up from his seat and nodded before saying, “Thanks, Coach.”

They shake hands before Tony makes his way out Sean Miller’s office door.

Having your coach tell you that you’re ready and he’s willing to lose you says a lot about you and your future.

      -----------------------------------------------------

Tony made it known that he was entering the 2013 NBA Draft knowing that he is projected to be drafted in the Top 3.

The media exploded the big talk was all about who will be drafted #1; Shabazz Muhammad, Nerlens Noel, or the recently registered Tony Cross.

Press stormed the Arizona campus and his mother’s home countless of times hunting for Tony Cross.

He would not allow all the attention get to his head and changed him staying humble with every question asked.

At the end of the Draft Lottery when the Phoenix Suns was chosen to have the #1 Overall pick after starting at the 9th pick Tony, Shabazz, and Nerlens was asked a few questions about the teams that had the top 3 picks.

Shabazz and Nerlens both acknowledge that they would be ok with any team but would rather be drafted #1 pleading their case of why they should be while Tony only answered saying, “As much of an honor it would be to be drafted #1 I don’t mind being drafted #5 if it comes to that. Wherever I’m drafted I will play 110% every game doing whatever it takes to win.”

        Phoenix, Arizona

“It’s really gonna be great. I just wish you could make it…I know you’re proud of me. It’s like you said with hard work and dedication I can accomplish anything. I miss you, Dad.”

Tony Cross stands over the grave of his father Kelvin Cross, who was killed in a car accident.

Tony tries as much as possible to come to his father’s gravesite and acknowledge him. His father was a big part of his life especially in his basketball life.

His father made him the player he is today and Tony will never forget it.

“We’ll be leaving soon. I don’t know when I’ll see you again, but I will try my best to make it back ASAP. Love you, dad.”

        2013 NBA Draft

“This is it, Mom, I finally made it,” said an excited Tony Cross.

“Yes you did, Tony. I’m very proud of you,” Sasha Cross replied.

“I dreamed of being here but I never dreamed of being projected to go Top 3. It’s almost unreal,” stated Tony.

Through high school Tony was considered one of the best ranked in the top 3 for countless of weeks.

Everything changed however after a severe shoulder injury caused him to miss nearly half of his senior season.

This injury caused him to fall drastically in the rankings and lose many scholarships because no one wanted to take a risk with the injury he had.

Arizona was the only top school he was interested in that still offered him a scholarship.

Tony Cross finished ranked 13th in his class and no one expected him to progress in college.

Many people kicked Tony to the side and gave all their attention to Nerlens Noels and Shabazz Muhammad even going as far as to say that Tony Cross would never be drafted.

There’s no denying that he was discouraged letting the media get to his head.

In the beginning he was proving the doubters right when he hurt that same shoulder missing 7 games in a row.

When he returned he was renewed scoring 19 points in his first game.

He had a new goal in his mind and that was to prove the doubters wrong.

Tony Cross took the NCAA by storm averaging 25.4 points (top 5 in the country) 5.3 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game, including winning multiple games for his team when the margin was within 5 or less points, shutting up all the doubters.

After averaging nearly 28 points in the Pac-10 tournament everyone was back on his side.

Fighting to prove that he was still considered the best he never got injured again and continuously his draft stock rose.

Grabbing all the attention he was able to prove that he’s good enough to have his name mentioned in the #1 Overall draft discussion.

“Well here we go, Mom, he’s about to announce the #1 pick,” stated Tony anxiously.

“The pick is in…With the #1 Overall Pick in the 2013 NBA Draft the Phoenix Suns will draft…the forward out of University of Arizona; Tony Cross…The Atlanta Hawks are now on the clock,” announced the NBA Commissioner David Stern.

Tony and his mother stood up as the audience cheered.

He gives his mother a hug and a kiss on the cheek as he’s little brother puts Tony’s draft cap with the Phoenix Suns’ logo on it on his brother’s head.

As he makes his way to the stage to shake hands with the Commissioner he stops and shakes hands with Shabazz Muhammad exchanging words with him then pointing at Nerlens as he walks away.

He finally makes his way up the steps and begins wiping his eyes trying to keep his self from crying.

With Stern’s hand already reached out Tony decides to go in for a hug first then shakes Stern’s hand as the media takes pictures.
