Chapter One: High School & ABL

2007 - Freshmen Year (High School - Northland Vikings)
    Team: Northland High School
    Job: McDonald's Cashier $14,560

Newman played for his local high school falling two games short of the state playoffs. Newman also got a job at McDonald's making $7.50 an hour. At the end of his freshmen year the Boys of Ill called him and offered him a chance to come play for them in the ABL. After impressing them he made the team and would begin next season as their starting point guard.

After Newman's first ABL season he made it clear he was one of the best players in the nation. Finishing 8-0 in the east region and falling just short of a double double a game. Along with averaging 2.1 steals a game. It seemed to take Newman just three games to find our how to work with his team and then it was all down hill from there.

This was a good win, I'm just excited to be playing with this group of men, we have probably three of the best players in the nation on this team.

In terms of what I'm looking for in a college I have to say my number one would be simply feeling wanted. No one wants to go somewhere were they are not wanted.

Currently I got around 36 teams interested in me, gotta say that Duke, the Lou, THE OHIO STATE of course, Michigan State and Villinova are all at the top of my list.

In two days we face off with the Mint Touch, they got two point guards in Bryan Gatlin #33 and Harlan Atkinson #35 ranked point guards. Fatlin is looking at TENN and GT, while Atkinson is primarily focused on getting an offer from Va Tech. Should make out for a hell of a game.

Only got 12 minutes but I understand coach has to make sure he gets everyone a look. So I pretty much run out there give us a lead, then he pulls me until it gets close again then puts me back in. I want to try to keep my assist over or at ten a game, but with limited playing time its hard to do. But we'll take the dub.

Currently I'm leading all ABL players in PPG with 33.5. Which isn't that shocking when you think that coach puts me in at SG all the time. I normally only play point til we get up by ten then he pulls me out and only puts me back in at shooting guard, but its whatever we're winning right?

No new teams came calling this time around, Ohio State seems to really want me and is putting everything they can into getting me, probably because I'm in their backyard.

My next game is against Equal Justice whose best player is my high schools Small Forward Damon Hoffman the #9 SF #50 overall player in the nation. Along with him they have Mr. Virgina in Toney Gomez the #19 SG and #65 OVR should be a nice match up for me when coach puts me in at SG. Their point guard isn't much to talk about being the #54 PG in the SR class. Eqaul Justice is 0-1

There are only 4 teams left undefeated in the East. Our Secret (day 15 game 8), Cap City (day 13 game 7), Long Shot (day 11 game 6), and of course The Boys of Ill. So as it appears we could have a rough schedule at the end of the season.

So before this game my dad told me I should focus more on getting the assist early because when I score first and get up coach seems to pull me out quick, turns out he was right. I got my 10 ast and posted up 32 points.

I'm still leading the ABL in points, I'm a little low on the assist list Leonard McGee has the lead with 11.7 if the name rings a bell its probably because he is from Toledo, OH. I've played against him last season in the state playoffs, he's a JR this year and is in the running for Mr. Ohio next year.

Our next game is against Suremeness who hasn't managed to pull out a win yet this season their best player is Kareem Draughan who is most likely the best shooting guard in my class, I might try to talk to him after the game and see if maybe we can team up to go to college together. He hasn't been to good on the outside shooting a making on one in twelve shots from 3 pt.

So there's three undefeated teams in the East Region left, Our Secret, Cap City, and of course us. I think it's gonna come down to Our Secret and Us for the Region. Our Secret is loaded with talent ranking wise they have a better squad then us, but I believe we can take them. I haven't checked out the rest of the nation because I've been focusing on us, but I'm sure there are better teams than ours out there.

Thanks man, glad to have a follower. I'm trying to make it an easy read. It's a blast I only play when Newman is in the game. If he's out I move the controller to the middle. I hate to say it but I think I'm going to miss these ABL games when they are over, thankfully I have two more seasons afterward.

Who needs to play the second half? Not me ha. And Coach even let me play some Small Forward. They tried and failed to slow us down but what do you expect when you are playing against a team that hasn't won a game. Thanks to dad's idea I still managed a double double. I still haven't missed a free throw all year thanks to all the extra hours spent in the gym.

We are the last undefeated team in the East Region. Our Secret, Cap City, Wizards, Mint Touch, and East coast are all tied in second place at three and one. Supremeness is the only team that doesn't have at least a win and judging off of the last game they may not win a game at all.

Next up we got Prep United sitting at two and two shockingly. They have a pretty solid roster and have the number eight shooting guard in Tony Ramlow the number twenty-five player overall in the nation North Carolina's Mr. Basketball and McDonald's All-American, you figured they'd be undefeated with us. They have a most junior at center Darrian Oliver at 6'11" he could be a problem since we don't even have a center on the roster.

This could be the sleeper game coach has been warning us about, I'm going to focus and try to make sure I keep my head in the game. As of right now we have soul ownership of the East Region giving us everything to lose and nothing to gain. So I'll be making sure I keep our boys focused this week.

I told everyone this would be a sleeper game, however there's not a team out there that can beat us when we play our hearts out. Prep United came at us we all they had and we manged to pull it out. We move on to 5-0.

Looking at the East Regional standings we are only a few games away from clinching. If we win out we win the region, if we lose one game not to Our Secret we clinch. Otherwise we are on hold because Our Secret is our last game and they are 4-1. Still in the fight. We could clinch early if we win the next two games AND Our Secret drops one of theirs.

Next up is Long Shot at 2-3, and boy ever does their name fit their chances of winning. Their best player is Buddy Civi the number twelve shooting guard and number forty-two over all player in the nation. After that there isn't much on their roster. Buddy actually plays for my High School team so I think we will be able to handle him. UL and Ohio St are also looking at him but he graduates this year so he wont have much of an impact on where I go. He is one of the best defensive shooting guards out there though, we will see if they play him on me or not.

I was makin' it rain out there I think I only missed one shot, and I nailed a double double again. Long Shot had NO shot in this one, we jumped out to a quick lead then never turned around.

I just got notice that we are the only undefeated ABL team in the nation. Our Secret lost last night meaning if we win this week we lock up the East Region so I guess I need to be checking out the rest of the nation after this week.

I've never let go of the scoring lead this season but now I'm tied in first place with assist too. Along with a point double oh seven lead in field goal percentage at .807, and a complete lead in 3 pt percentage with an .807 again. And of course lets not forget I'm one of two guys along with Corry Combs of the East Region East Coast to not miss a free throw yet.

On deck for our next game is Cap City who is probably the best three and three team out there. With three five star juniors at point power and small they are not to be a team to be over-looked. I played against Romas Cuffe last season in the High School playoffs he might be one of the best small forwards in his class. Hopefully we can lock up the East Region with this dub.

Dominance is the best way I can describe this game I pretty much did whatever I wanted to. However I did miss quite a few shots and after just bragging about not missing a free throw, I sure did today. But with this victory we locked up the East Region to put us into the playoffs.

Wrapping up regional play makes me think about how this season is almost over, you never think it's going to end but the facts are that most teams seasons end in the next two weeks. And only the luck top eight teams get to play an extra game.

Just thought I'd give a shout out to all the seniors on the team that wont be back next season.

Our last game of the season is Our Secret they are five and two this season, but don't let that full you as they are loaded with talent. All of which are underclassmen which means they will be one of the best teams in the country next year. With four five star players at PG, SG, SF, and another PG. They seem to match up pretty well with us however they do have a dominate inside game as well with the #23 C in the nation. Our Secret could quite possibly be our only loss this season.

In what started out to be a close game, I was forced to take over in the second half to push us away from OS. The team really worked well I think this game is going to help prepare us for our playoff run to come.

In the first round of the playoffs we face off against the Kingz from the Northeast Region who finished six and two in the regular season. The Kings have two of the best juniors in the nation on their team both can play anywhere on the court showing why they are here. Damir Ownsworth and Truman Boddie could be the most dangerous combo in the ABL.

I'm gonna post up some season ending information for everyone here in a few just to give you an idea of what the nations best looked like.

50 points in a play-off game the Northeast Region needs to come correct at me next year. No one on that whole team impressed me, if I was a scout I'd be marking that teams name off my books no wonder the Ivy League can't compete with most schools.

In the semi-finals we face off with the South Champion Concrete who are currently 7-2. Led by there two amazing guards Milton Archibald SG and Rodney Axton PG. They seem to match up pretty well against us. But I definitely believe we will be going to the finals after this, they just don't have what it would take to stop us from getting to the championship.
