NBA DRAFT RECAP: WINNERS AND LOSERS

It’s difficult to declare who the winners and losers of the 2012 NBA draft are, what with none of the players or teams involved playing any games that matter for four months.

But, as the NBA Draft came and went, I will look to describe who I believe did well and poorly in this years edition of the draft.

      NBA Draft Results
      Spoiler

      Winners

      Atlanta Hawks

This team made out like bandits. They swooped in at the number 8 spot in a trade with Utah where they gave up Lou Williams to steal the best player in the draft, Nerlens Noel, from Kentucky, and have their franchise centerpiece for the future. They then turned around at tenand drafted a solid player who is great from outside to complement their new inside man in SG Tim Hardaway Jr. Isaiah Austin could develop into a Dirk Nowitzki level star as a stretch 4 next to there low post banger in Noel. They struck gold in round to with defensive minded wing Glenn Robinson III, teammate of Hardaway Jr.

      Boston Celtics

The team lucked out. They won the lottery, got the number one oick, and got there star scorer for the next decade. with the addition of Mclemore, they can get rid of paul pierce, and Rajon Rondo, to large contracts who are reportedly on the outs. The team has decided they would be better off with Avery Bradley at the point and McLemore as the 2, moving Jeff green to the 3 spot to replace Pierce, and then using free agency to fill either the 4 or 5 spot, depending on whether you want KG at the center or power forward position. The celtics will likely struggle this season but are prepared to make a jump in a couple years now that they have their franchise cornerstone.

      Sacramento Kings

The drafting of Archie Goodwin is the end of Tyreke Evans tenure in Sacramento, and the beginning of something new. Goodwin is a top flight athlete with some skill and can contribute right away. He will be the new future for this team.

      Others Considered: Dallas, Golden State

      Losers
      New Orleans Hornets

What Were you thinking? They took 2 power forwards in the first round when they already had a backload of bigs. They needed to get talent on the wing and passed up on Otto Porter AND Shabbazz Muhammad not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES! Twice in the first, once in the second round for crying out loud. Terrible job by the management over in new orleans.

      Charlotte Bobcats

Umm, what? You took a raw big from France of Nerlens Noel, the best player in the draft?Oh my goodness. Another terrible move by terrible management. I cannot deal with these types of boneheaded mistakes. MJ, you may want to look for a new GM soon, ugh.

      Washington Wizards

The team made an odd move for a team in rebuilding mode. they went for depth at point guard to backup Wall. Granted, he gets injured plenty, but unless they make a real splash in free agency, this was a loss since they had more pressing needs to attend to.

I may, I may not. But the option is now there. And I fully expect rondo to be traded next year in real life. We will see.

I guess I just expect both Pierce and Garnett to retire Celtics, and seeing how they struggle without him it's obvious he's hugely important to the team.
Also, Rondo, McLemore, Pierce, Green, Garnett with Bradley as 6th man is a really good lineup, and they now have the replacement for Allen who they lost in A to the Heat. And once Pierce and Garnett retire they'll have the money to go for replacements in FA.

I've been shopping around in the game. Its not financially plausible to trade pierce at this point in a way that is realistic. I, as a Celtics' fan, wouldn't want to see him go anyway, I just figured it would be a realistic thing if it could be done to a team like the LA clippers or Memphis grizzlies, who could use a half court offensive presence and some veteran leadership to help get them over the hump and to the NBA finals. Rondo is still up in the air though, because I find (especially in NBA 2k) that the Celtics are better off without rondo. We wouldn't become so one dimensional in him using pick and rolls or drive and kicks, and we would spread the floor and have better ball movement when we don't have one primary ball handler, and in turn we run it through many players like pierce, green, McLemore, Bradley, etc. If I can find a good, realistic deal for Rondo where we can get a good, ball handling wing to pair with McLemore and a draft pick, preferably from a bad team, then I will make the deal

If i find such a deal, the lineup will look like this:

              PG: Bradley
              SG: McLemore
SF: *insert ball handling wing here*
              PF: Green
              C: KG
              6th: Pierce

One deal I found that was intriguing was Rondo, and a very unhappy Jason Terry for Tyreke Evans, an expiring contract, and a first round pick. This deal would work because with the Kings drafting Archie Goodwin, its clear that Evans' days are numbered in Sacramento. He actually displayed some improvement last year, though, and would be a nice option at the 3, as he has progressed into the mid 80's whereas Pierce has regressed to 78, and more of a 6th man level talent anyway. The Kings also would want a true point guard as Isaiah Thomas is better served as a bench player, and they could use a starter at the point guard if they were to put thomas on the bench.

The Kings Lineup would be like this:
              PG: Rondo
SG: Marcus Thornton for a year until Goodwin develops, then he swaps with Goodwin.
SF: I believe that Salmons is the starter.
              PF: Patterson
              C: Cousins
              6th Goodwin

What do you think of that deal.

Not exactly a Celtics fan, but they're one of the teams I like alot, just thinking of them without Pierce or KG doesn't feel right(Pierce actually did go to the Clippers and then to a winning Orlando side in a few of my Associations). But if you can get the right deal for him I do think Rondo 'could' be dealt, but it would definitely have to be the 'right' deal.
That Tyreke one does seem good I'll admit, then you just hope they suck so their pick is good

Yeah. We shall see. The only problem is tyreke is under contract for 4 years and a player option, which is a long time for an 8 mil contract on a player that may not be in the teams plans as more than an asset for the team and a talent to play for now. We shall see. The offseason free agency update will be up soon.

My computer is not working (this is from my IPhone). I will get it checked out this weekend and will try to post when its back up. Until then, I want to take this break from the Tony Winter series for the foreseeable future as an opportunity to start a side series. A new dynasty. I will likely do this from my phone for now and then I will handle both from my computer when its up again. It will be a 30 team control association with a fantasy draft. And it will still be in the same GM Format. I need a title and a name for it that is predicated on the team. He(or she if you would like) will be controlling the brooklyn nets. Any ideas? I will put more details in the first post later tonight. I will add another post here with the link in my signature once its up.

Thanks for not being to mad for the temporary stoppage of posts. And i promise it will be temporary.

I just need ideas for the title. Like cold as ice, but different to be more brooklyn like. Something that embodies the city. This is because the guys or girls backstory is that he or she grew up in a lower class home in Brooklyn. Any ideas for his or her name and the title part before it or no?

Nah man, I've been getting a storyline dynasty with Orlando ready and the name part took me 3 days. I also don't know much about Brooklyn, so I can't be of much help
Although you could go the obvious route and call the character Brooklyn.

That would be overkill. Lol. I think the name will
Pay homage to Bugs Bunny, who is supposed to be from brooklyn. My plan for the title is unknown for now.
