2019 NBA Draft Lottery: Oklahoma City Gets Lucky Roll and Moves up to #3

After acquiring two first round picks for this draft during the draft last year, Oklahoma City was sitting with the #6 and #7 lottery picks from last year, even after making the playoffs this year. There was already a rumor floating around that the Thunder may try and package two of their picks and/or a combo of players to move up, but that #6 pick turned into a #3 pick tonight after the lottery. The Thunder are looking to shake some things up after getting bounced early from the playoffs each of the last two years, so we'll see what moves they make, if any. Rumor is that they will look to take big man William Cross out of Michigan State if he's still there.

Oklahoma City Picks Up Both Team Options for Stafford and Hamilton

Today, Scott Brooks announced that the Thunder had officially exercised their team options for both forward Ryan Stafford and center Rufus Hamilton. Stafford was last year's NBA Defensive Player of the Year, and a 3rd Team All-NBA Selection. The Thunder will owe him $4.31M this year.

Rufus Hamilton is another defensive specialist, and one of the tallest players in the league at 7'3". Hamilton has played sparingly in his first two years, but has shown progress as well. His contract will pay him $1.35M this season.

Both players have one more team option, for next offseason, on their contract.

The Thunder traded forward Perry Jones to Charlotte during the NBA Draft tonight. After Oklahoma City drafted William Cross #3, it created an immediate logjam for playing time down low. Jones was swiftly dealt, in a trade that brought back a future 1st and some wing help. Full details below.

7'1" 305lb monster William Cross is a stud in every way... did I mention he is good at basketball too? He can shoot the outside shot with the new age bigmen but still finds himself comfortable in the paint where he belongs. Can out-muscle anyone who steps up to him, has a great winning attitude, and will definitely put up big numbers from day one. He could go as early as 1 if the right team wins the lottery. Expect big things and many award seasons from William Cross.

Jeffrey Sessions shocked a lot of people by going back to school after his sophomore year. Then he surprised people again after last year. Returning to school allowed Sessions to really fine tune his game. He has become an overall better player and just continued to get better in almost every area of the game. Many believe that Sessions played a major role in the quick development of Freshman center William Cross. The best thing about Sessions is that he is NBA ready and prepared to step in to the league and start or at least be a big time contributor right NOW.

Free Agency: Brady Rejoins Thunder; Big Baby Joins in Reserve Role

The Oklahoma City Thunder filled their roster today by announcing two signings. First was guard Lewis Brady, who has been with the Thunder for two seasons, and decided to come back after testing free agent waters. His contract is worth $12.27M over two years. Also signed was veteran journeyman Glen "Big Baby" Davis. Davis will see only a couple minutes and is on the roster mainly in case of injury. Davis's contract is a one-year deal worth $1.15M.
