Gonna need a bit of Magic: Rebuilding the Orlando Magic

    Orlando Magic Association

*Franchise Notes: This association is all about realism. My plan for year one:Run the show with Nelson and Afflalo. Develop Moore into a good prospect, Develop Lambs three point shooting, develop Harris and Harkless into all-around players, develop Harkless and Nicholson's defense, and turn vucevic into a dominante big-man. To keep it realistic, I will be keeping trades to a minimum. No trades involving me receiving any players unless they are a bench warmer or someone to make the money part of the trade work if draft picks are involved, but those players that are aquired will MOST LIKELY be released. Trades: Get: Draft picks. Send: Players and Draft picks. Will never exceed 2 draft picks in each round to keep it realistic. No Signing of big free agents. Only free agents that will be signed are role players and guys that I can sign for the veteran minimum so no starters or even sixth man. No trades will happen during the 2012-2013 season.

    Magic hire new GM, Davis

    10/30/2012

Today the Orlando Magic hosted a press conference, introducing their new GM, Charlie Davis. Owner of the Orlando Magic, Richard DeVos stated during the press conference that he and the organization as a whole, were excited to see how Davis could help this falling franchise. “I chose Charlie because he knows what it takes to turn a franchise from a bottom dweller to a perennial playoff team.” This franchise is not far off from the playoffs, they last reached in 2012 with Dwight Howard anchoring the middle of their defense. But this team is much different then that 2011-2012 team that reached the playoffs. After the Howard trade a number of other trades were performed which brought in new young talent. The only players remaining are Jameer Nelson and Hedo Turkoglu. Davis is inheriting a very young team that does not really know how to play together. During the conference Davis went on to say, “This team that we have today is rebuilding. We have young talent with high potentials but those players are still a few years from reaching those potentials. We have no star that we can build around for the future and I look forward to finding that star or collection of stars and bringing them to Orlando, along with key role players so we can contend for a championship. With that said some of the pieces on this current roster will no doubt be apart of the future to this team. But nothing is set in stone and everyone must work for a roster spot. As far as the staff goes Jacque Vaughn is currently under a one year contract with us and we are going to keep him at his position until the end of the season and we will re-evaluate from there. The same thing goes for our Assistant coach, Patrick Ewing. We have decided to hire Edwin Stafford, Jeff Berry, and Ralph Ryan to take over the Prospect Scouting department. I look forward to bringing the Orlando fans their first basketball championship.”

Hedo Turkoglu gets the nod over Tobias Harris. Turkoglu is a guy that knows the Orlando Magic system. Hes big, 6'10" for the SF pos and he can run the point and hit any open shot. Tobias Harris can use a year to develop behind Hedo and then next year he will start when and if Hedo leaves in free agency. It will most likely be Tobias' first and only year starting at SF for the Orlando Magic because in the 2014 draft I plan on having or trading for the number one pick and taking my man Andrew Wiggins. PG in the first round, SG in the second round of the 2013 draft and Wiggins in the 2014 gets me excited. But again nothing is set in stone.

The Magic look to kick off this long season with a win tonight against the Nuggets. Going to be a tough test against the highest scoring team in the NBA last year. Jameer Nelson vs. Ty Lawson should be a good matchup since both are undersized gaurds with good vision to find the open man. Afflalo vs. Iguadala would be a good matchup given both players are good defenders with good driving abilities but the size mis-match favors Iggy. Turkoglu vs. Gallinari should be a good matchup with two over-sized small forwards that both know how to put up points. Davis has the edge in size over Faried but dont let that fool you because Faried easily gets the edge. Finally, under the basket will Vucevic be able to contain McGee's athleticism and jumping ability. Team Chemistry: 43%

              Following!

I really love the format of this thread so far! I am really looking forward to the results of the Denver game. That will be a challenge for sure, but it will also allow you to see where you are at. I am hoping to see Tobias Harris and Andrew Nicholson contribute because both are very underrated players with a lot of potential

              Good luck!

                GAME RECAP

The Magic started the game out with the upper hand. The Nuggets were trailing most of the first half. It looked like Jameer Nelson and Arron Afflalo were going to take over and start the season off right. The Magic were no match for the Nuggets speed on this night though. Iguodala was unstoppable on the fast break and even when the Nuggets slowed their tempo they still always seemed to find an open Danillo Gallinari behind the ark. And just as expected Javale Mcgee and Kenneth Faried controlled the boards. Overall the we need to work on our ball movement and getting everyone their shots, not just taking Afflalo or Nelson and going iso. If we could have played like we did in the first half then we would still be undefeated.

After a very disappointing finish to their first game the Magic look to bounce back against the Phoenix Suns. The Suns come into the game scoring over a hundred points per game and leading the league in rebounds per game. Not exactly what the doctor ordered for the Magic. But it is definetely a step down from the Nuggets which gives us a fighting chance. Jameer Nelson vs. Goran Dragic should be interesting with both players passing abilties about to be on full display. Nelson SHOULD get the nod with the better scoring ability but Dragic is a killer when he gets to the basket. Shannon Brown vs. Arron Afflalo is another good matchup. Two guys in the prime(if you call it that) of their careers. Afflalo obviously has more talent but if Shannon Brown gets open with that high arcing shot, he could catch fire at any time. When it comes to Michael Beasley matching up with Turkoglu, it really is no contest. Beasley has the obvious upper hand in athletisism only real fighting chance Turk has is if Beasley leaves him open because Turk wont be getting to the rim. The big men battle will decide who wins the game. If Gortat and Scola control the offensive boards then the Magic will have no shot at winning. Team Chemistry: 41%

Re: Gonna need a bit of Magic: Rebuilding the Orlando Magic

Tough loss to Denver. The Nuggets are a solid team though, and are definitely contenders so the fact that you had a strong 1st half against them is a good sign!

I look forward to seeing how you do against PHX. The Suns have a lot of scoring ability but you will probably be able to execute your offense better then you were able to against Denver. You may want to consider giving Tobias Harris more minutes against Beas. Harris is athletic, and has a ton of potential so maybe he can have a break out game to get his season kick started. Tobias is a key part of the future for Orlando.

Good luck, this association is looking great so far!

                      GAME RECAP

The Magic looked like they were going to make this a game, but that was in the first quarter. After the first the Suns ran away with this game and did not look back. Shannon Brown won the position battle between Arron Afflalo and himself. I knew that that position battle would be critical to winning the game. Although Brown is not the best on the team he still has the potential to score big numbers and he showed that today. A more variety of scoring and more scoring from Arron Afflalo could really have changed the outcome of this game.

                            GAME RECAP

The Orlando Magic shocked the previously undefeated bulls tonight with tough defense and hot hands. Although Derrick Rose and Nate Robinson could not be completely shut down they were controlled enough to give us a great chance to win. Arron Afflalo and especially Jameer Nelson are to thank for containing Rose and Robinson. Not only did they hold them on the defensive end, the tandem led the team in scoring. Overall a great game. In the first the Magic dominated but the Bulls kept it close throughout the second and in the third they made their run. The run eventually resulted in a few lead changes but in the fourth the Magic got their lead back and expanded on it.
