Brandon: Ha, nah you aren't interrupting anything. Name's Brandon, I'm a junior here at Belltown and also a point guard. As for tips, put in hard work and you'll go far here. Coach Rice loves guys who give it their all for the team and are gym rats.

A lot of his issues with guys in the past have been because of petty, personal scuffles between teammates or a lack of effort.

Other than that, I'd love to help in anyway that I can. I know how hard it is starting at a new school and add in basketball too haha. Here's my number *gives number*, give me a ring after the season's over if you want to go workout, ball, have a question, or need some help with something on the court.

Bad chemistry and not realizing the core of our game got yaw here . Mark my words, things will only go up from here if Donate' stays put for jus one more year . And if yaw truly wanted to win, rather than trip out over who is scoring, then run it through Donate', I mean the guy is a ****ing giant .
        That's what I think ..
Brandon: I don't know why you're criticizing our guard play and our offense...Dontae' gets a ton of touches, and honestly I look to get him the ball whenever he's open, and even sometimes when he isn't. Besides that, Dontae' gets a ton of assists from passing out of double/triple teams because his basketball IQ is incredibly high. Don't sit here and say that we all care about our scoring numbers, because honestly...I know for a fact that if I scored 0 points, had 10+ assists, played solid defense, and we won, I'd be happier than if I dropped 50 and we lost. Considering I did the former for two years on winning teams and on this team a couple times, and the latter damn near happened this season too. And I know there are plenty of guards on this team who think the same way.

I will say this though: as much as I'm looking to force it to him and to the rest of you, if the floor is open and the play dictates the guard or wing player taking it, I will get the ball to the open man or take my open look every time. You have to read the floor and know what's going on around you. There's no "money play" in real life, this isn't 2K and there is a way to stop everything. It's the guard's job to analyze what's in front of them and make the correct play to attack what's in front of us. We can't be a one-trick pony on offense, teams will gear up and only defend that play or player. The reason we were winning (when we were) was that we were balanced on offense. We had guards, wings, and bigs scoring and distributing the ball around. When Dontae', myself, or whoever it was that day was the only one doing anything, we lost.

Chemistry has been a problem, but the bigger problem is that while all of you were down on JV when Anderson was there, we were severely lacking talent on Varsity. Basically all our best players were wasting a year on JV that we could have used to win a championship. All you guys inherited a bad record from the coaching mistakes and from my own screw-ups. Individual players can win some games, but at the end of the day, teams win championships.

Honestly I don't think we have a big chemistry issue anymore, I think a lot of our stuff has been sorted and this season was a learning experience for everyone. We all know what we have to do to win and this game is a good chance to show the world that Belltown is ready to win a championship next season. I think we need to blow these guys off the court, and I'm damn sure going to try and be there with you guys, even if I'm not playing.

Restoring the Fear: A Belltown Tigers Legacy

Omari: Dontae is not the answer. He is an overrated 7 footer who can't even dominate high school. I don't understand why everyone always depends on him when every time we get to loosing and need him to step up he always fails us but yet again the next game comes around and we're back on his tail hoping he can lead us and it's the same exact result. I'll admit that I'm not too good at basketball but what I know is that Dontae is height and that's it. Belltown is a weak team just nobody realizes it.

Let's see, you (Brandon) are the only established veteran on the team who is use to the varsity level while everybody else is a bunch of amateurs thinking this is still middle school basketball and that they could dominate with height. Things have changed . . . Back when Anderson was here having all the 'best' players on JV they were winning and adapting to the high school level now they're mashed up with players who are veterans and the best of their represented school.

Next year should be different though and hopefully varsity can pick up more leadership.

Brandon: You definitely have good points and I agree with a lot of them, I don't agree that Dontae' is just height. He's talented, I've been practicing with him outside of actual practices all season...dude has great vision and can finish around the rim. He's still got room to grow, not physically, but in his offensive game. He has lot of potential in the post, his footwork and hands are really good considering how raw those skills are (he hasn't had to use them much since he's 7'1")

But I do agree that we have to run actual offense, not "give it to the tall guy" like ya'll are used to from middle school. It's incredibly immature to think one dude can make the team win...this is varsity basketball. Guys are talented here, we can't beat a team of 5 as 5 individuals. Not consistently at least. Part of that is on me for not speaking up more this season...I'm older and more experienced so I do know this stuff. But it's also on every single person on the team to realize it. If they don't buy in, we're gonna lose.

Well, the game estimated he's out 1-2 weeks, so I'll leave it up to you whether he plays or not.

I have just as much talent as anyone else her, I'm 6'6, Squat 410, 35" vertical, and I can run a 4.6, but I'm just not dominating like I should be. Coach, do you have any idea what I should do, I'm freaking out and even lost my cool the other night on the bus.
