Putting Canada Back On The Map - NewGM

    Introducing, the Toronto Raptors!

    Beep, Beep, Beep
As I woke up and slammed off my alarm, I started to get the shivers. Today was the day; the day I started my coaching and GM career for the Raptors. Eager to get this day rolling, I jumped out of bed, threw my socks and shirt on, and ran out the door like the last day of school.

Driving down the 401, passing the CN tower, the subway, and other landmarks, I started to feel more and more nervous. What will they think of me? How will I get this team turned around? Will I make it as a GM?

About twenty minutes have passed, and I pull up and park my Subaru in the spot clearly marked "Raptors GM". My own spot. As I park, I look up and see this beautiful woman standing by the doors. I wave shyly to her, wondering who she is and how I'm going to introduce myself.

I start to introduce myself, brushing off the nerves.

    "Hi, My names.."

"I know who you are, Noah. My names Samantha." says Samantha. "I trust you'll be able to find the way to the dressing room. Everyone is waiting! You better hurry, as the first game is in a few days and you still have to set everything up!"

"Whoa, Is this really happening. No time to waste I guess. Where are the boys?" I ask, barley finishing my morning coffee.

"Right this way" she replies with a grin. "Everyone is eager to meet you."

After a few turns and hallways, we finally reach the locker room. Looking around, I realize that this isn't a dream anymore, this is reality. And being such, I have to step my game up.

"Ah, the GM is in the house!" shouts Lowry as he throws a towel at Novak.

"I told you he wasn't going to be late!" joked DeRozan, pointing at Johnson. "You sir, owe me 5 bucks!".

"Well, I guess I should introduce myself guys. My name's Noah. I've been following you guys, er I guess I should say... the Raptors... forever! I know exactly what you need, and how to get it. Lets start off with the starters next game." I said with a stern voice.

As I walked over to the chalk board and started to write down names, I felt the Coach me overpower the GM in me.

"Alright, as we have it... Lowry, you'll be starting at PG. I expect at least 5 assists from you per game. The first 3 games will be your test. Augustin, how do you feel about backing him up?"

"You know I got you coach. Expect those assists to come ASAP." Lowry shouted with a strict voice.

"Alright. As for PF... I'm thinking it will be a battle between Hansbroughand Johnson. We will start off with you, Hansbrough. Johnson, you'll come off the bench as 6th man. I expect at least 8 boards from you Tyler, as well as 10 points. Johnson, I'm expecting 5 boards and 5 points. Impress me." I stated with emphasis

Shooting Guard, DeRozan thats your spot. You know the drill. 15 points minimum per game, while grabbing at least 5 boards. Small forward goes to Gay. Don't be shy to take the shots. I want at least 1 three-pointer a game, hit or miss. Valanciunas, you're starting Center. Get the boards" I barked.

Midway though, I heard groans and sighs. When asked what was wrong, Fields snapped "I want to be starter!"

"Show me what you got in the next few games, and we'll see." I replied angerly.

"Rest of you will play role's. That means you Novak, Fields, Gray, Ross, Daye, Acey and Richardson. If you don't like it, feel free to come and meet me in my office so we can make suitable arrangements. I know people who would Love to be on the team, regardless of the role they play."

As I look at the time, I realize its 6:45 pm. Where does the time go. After some shooting drills and plays, I tell the crew to go home, get rest, and prepare for our first game against the Boston Celtics.

Toronto gets the W, makes GM proud
    Boston: 20 | 21 | 21 | 23 | 85
    Toronto: 29 | 17 | 16 | 26 | 88

    The Good:
Steals. Between the 12 players on roster, half of them recorded a steal. This is a good start and helped us come out with the W. Valanciunas also scored a career high of 15 boards

    The Bad:
3 point percentage. The Raptors went 6-22 from the 3 point arc.

    Green with Envy:
Rondo recorded a triple-double, scoring 10 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in 40 minutes.

    Quotable I:
[i]"Well, I didn't even realize until after the game. I was to into the zone tonight."[/b] - Rondo, Boston Guard - on this triple-double

    Quotable II:
"We played great! I love this team. Its one thing to come and coach / GM a team, but its another to come and coach / GM a winning team!" - Noah, Raptors coach/GM

    Done what was asked:
Previously, Noah made some goals for his team. Gay led the team with 21 points, making 3-4 3-pointers. Derozan came in 2nd with 18 points. Valenciunas got his first double-double this season with 11 points, 15 rebounds.

    Assist on the double:
Lowry recorded 14 assists, 7 points and 7 rebounds.

Re: Putting Canada Back On The Map - NewGM

      Thursday October 31st

As I walked into the gym around 3 pm, I notice everyone is quiet. I felt that I needed to address them on this win, so I did.

"I'm very impressed with everyone! Especially Valenciunas! Congrats on your career high. You've earned your starting spot. Don't mess this up! I'd like to thank everyone for not embarrassing me. Keep in mind that we have a 2 game road trip ahead of us in Atlanta then Milwaukee. These teams are more then difficult, and we have to prepare. Time for practice! Everyone grab a ball, shooting drills!" I stated.

Lowry attempted to high-fived Valenciunas, while everyone laughed. As the day went on, I decided to set up games of 3 on 3, when all of a sudden Sam came up to me.

"Sorry to bother you again Noah, but I'm afraid I have some news." she said as she glanced around the room. "I don't think Richardson or Gray take you seriously."

"Whoa, good to know. Thank you Sam. I'll speak to them after this drill." I replied disappointed, looking down at the floor.

      Beep Beep Beep

"That will be it for today guys, great game yesterday, and great practice today. Flight leaves at 8, so get prepared. We will have one more practise in Atlanta. Oh, Gray and Richardson, may I speak to you for a minute in my office..." I hooted while grabbing my notebook, darting my eyes around and walking towards the door.

Re: Putting Canada Back On The Map - NewGM

          November 1st, 2013

After remembering vaguely last night, Noah slowly got up and threw on the closest jeans he could find. Today was a big day for the GM in him. After speaking to Gerald Spencer, the #1 prospect couch, Noah was informed that he needed to hire at least 2 more due to the huge prospect list.

"I'll get on it, bring in the list of applicants, Sam."

"On my way." she replied as she hustled over to the group of people.

"The names Percy Wise." said a middle-aged man with brown hair. "I know exactly what you need, and i know where to get the goods." he joked.

"Interesting... How much are you looking to make this year?"

"About $100k.. if that alright. I promise I'm worth it"

"We'll give you a shot at it, Mr Wise. Welcome to the club. The most we can offer you is two years."

"Thank you! I'll get right on it. Anyone you feel I should go check on?"

"Well, we need Centers... go check out Cliff Mercer, and Gerald, go check out Pat Simon, the SG." Noah said while looking at the log of prospects. "I have to get ready for game! Any questions, talk to Sam. I'll leave it up to her who to hire for the last scout. Speak to you guys in a week."

As quickly as he entered the room, Noah departed. Feeling confident in his actions so far, he couldn't wait to address the team. As he raced around the corner towards the gym, he was stopped in his tracks by a faint whispering.

"Shh, you'll get us caught." a voice said faintly

"I know what I'm doing, keep cool fool" replied another.

"I hear the GM. I like this team, I don't want to leave!" stated the first voice.

"It's okay. Not like you played anyways! Besides, Miami looks nice this time of year. Just switch the files and follow me" the 2nd voice said in a stern voice. "Now enough talking, I'm pretty sure the GM is near"

Noah slowly opens the door to reveal who was talking behind his back, only to reveal it was Steve Novak and Quentin Richardson. After confronting them, and talking to them for a while, Noah realized what was best to do for himself, the players and the team.

As he picked up the phone and dialed a few numbers, he simply looked at them with disappointment and shame.

"Hello, this is Noah, from the Toronto Raptors." Noah spoke into an unknown person on the phone. "I have a trade offer to propose to you..."

            The Trade, Before Game Time!

Two hours before game-time, the team was wondering where Richardson and Novak were. Then, out of the blue, Jordan Hill (A-, C, 1yr | $3.50M) and Steve Blake (-, PG, 1yr | $4.00M) came through the doors. Noah looked at them, and welcomed them to the team.

"This is what happens when you go behind my back, and try to alter information. You end up traded. I will not tolerate this kind of bull****. I have been nothing but respectful, I except the same back. I would like to introduce Jordan Hill, from the Lakers... and Steve Blake. Jordan will be playing role player, and was acquired for the obvious reason we're lacking some centers - No offence Aaron -. Blake, well he was just an add in. You will be benched and brought in when there is an injury." Noah said as he slammed his books down on the table.

The team was astonished. Everyone was at a loss of words.

"Now, lets get back to practice. We have a game in an hour" Noah demanded.

L.A Lakers receive: Quentin Richardson, Steve Novak, 2015 1st round pick (TOR)
Raptors receive: Jordan Hill, Steve Blake

Raptors squeeze by Hawks, Hill makes Debut

              TOR: 26 | 25 | 18 | 29 | 98
              ATL: 23 | 22 | 30 | 22 | 97

              The Good:
Rudy Gay. He ended up making 33 points in 35 minutes. 12 of these came from the free-throw line alone.
Valanciunas has recorded 14 rebounds tonight, which is 1 shy of tying his record of 15 (acquired last game)

              The Bad:
Tyler Hansbrough. In 33 minutes, the underproducing PF has only 7 points and 4 rebounds. Also, he had 5 turnovers which all led to points.

              The Lucky:
Valanciunas, who had 5 fouls. Didn't manage to foul out.

              First time for everyone:
Jordan Hill debut: 11 minutes, 5 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block.

              Quotable I:
"It felt good to play for the Raptors. I love their game. Right away, I felt like I was contributing." - Jordan Hill, Raptors Center

              Quotable II"
"I had a crap night. Don't be alarmed guys, It was just a bad game. Next time I'll get better" - Hansbrough, Raptors Guard

Up Next: Milwaukee Bucks (going to play, 6 minute quarters)

This Just In: Rockets Jeremy Lin has torn his MCL and is expected to be out for the whole season. In a game, Lin has recorded 18 points and 7 assists in 30 minutes in their win against Charlotte. His injury happened 12 minutes into the game against Dallas. Who will be Houstons backup PG and their 6th man? #TradeTalk
