The Come Up: The Story of Quincy Daniels
Quincy was born and raised in Compton, California. He has had a very rough life. His dad was murdered when he was three years old, because he owed some money to a drug dealer. His mom has been out on the streets trying to make ends meet, so he mostly stays at friends and other family members homes. He has a older brother who mentors him and makes sure he stays out of the streets. His brother however is in the streets his self. To stay out of trouble Quincy stays at his local basketball court, and continuously works on his game. One day he was playing a pick up game, and a high school coach saw him. The coach saw him lock down one of the best players in Compton. The coach went over to talk to him, and said he had a lot of potential and offered him a chance to play at Dominguez High School where he coached. Quincy accepted and is now preparing to turn his future around.Tags: None -

Re: The Come Up: The Story of Quincy Daniels
* Quincy's alarm clock goes off, he smashes it to shut it off.*
Quincy: Time for the first day of high school.
*Quincy gets dressed and goes down stairs to eat breakfast.*
Damon: You ready for high school bruh?
Quincy: I'm ready to be on that basket ball team.
Damon: Yeah you think I could make the team right?
Quincy: You could be team manager, and sit there and watch me put in work.
Damon: Man shut up. *Quincy laughs* Thanks for a confidence booster.
Quincy: I'm just playing man!
Damon: Whatever man, lets get ready to go. My mom wants us to get there on time.
Quincy: Aight lets bounce.
...Lunch
*Quincy sits at a table with Damon. A short light skin guy comes up to them.*
Trey: So ya'll just gonna sit at this table without saying ****? My name is Trey, this table is for my squad, so I'ma ask you nicely since you freshmen. Move the **** outta the way!
Damon: C'mon Quincy lets roll.
Quincy: Hol' up, I know you ain't about to let this guys bully us into moving. Man you ain't no authority, so I don't have to move!
Trey: The **** you think you talkin to?
Quincy: You shorty!
Trey's friend: A mane! Calm down Trey, you can't get in trouble we need you for football, and basketball homie.
Trey: You got lucky, I was finna **** you up.
Damon: Alright Quincy lets go.
* Quincy was going to coaches office for a talk.*...
Coach: Hey Quincy, how you been doing?
Quincy: Alright, I guess.
Coach: Your first day was good?
Quincy: Yeah but I got in a argument with this guy named Trey.
Coach: Oh, my star point guard. What happened?
Quincy: Wait, he's your star point guard? He's only like 5'9.
Coach: It's not about size with him he's got heart, confidence, and athleticism.
Quincy: OK, so I guess that means I'm playing the two?
Coach: Yes. Our depth at the two is weak, you are exactly what I need.
Quincy: Sounds straight.
Coach: Welp, I'll see you at try outs.
Quincy: Alright coach I'll be ready.
Coach: I hope so.
*Quincy walks out door.*
Quincy: Well I know so.Last edited by BUCKSWEATSHIRT; 12-04-2013, 10:32 PM.Comment

Re: The Come Up: The Story of Quincy Daniels
After school
Damon: Yo, be careful what you do man, you almost got us killed today!
Quincy: You know I can fight, so quit faking dawg.
Damon: Yeah, but he could've had a knife, or anything.
Quincy: Whatever, I'm to the court to get a good workout in.
Damon: Alright, I gotta get ready for freshmen football tryouts tomorrow.
Quincy: Oh ****, I forgot you were actually good at a sport.
Damon: Shut up, I'm trying out for CB. You know I was a lock down corner in Pee-Wee.
Quincy: Yea, but I was the best linebacker in the league.
Damon: I'll give you that.
Quincy: Aight man, I'm heading out.
Damon: Aight, peace!
...
7:00
Erick: Alright good game Q! I gotta bounce doe.
Quincy: Aight, peace homie.
*Quincy stays and shoots some more shots. He sees a car pull up with Schoolboy Q Collard Greens blasting through the speakers. He sees Trey and his boys hop out the car.*
Trey: What's up **** boy?
* Trey and his friends laugh*
Quincy: Whatever.
Trey: I see you got yourself a nice shot. Why don't you try to do that against me?
Quincy: Aight, bet lets play a 1 on 1 game to 11.
Trey: Bet. Lets get this *** whooping started!
Quincy: Shoot for ball.
Trey: Nah, I'll let you have it youngin.
Quincy: Aight, bet.
I get the ball and shoot a jumper in his face right away. It swishes through the net. Trey looked shocked. He passed me the ball and this time played some actual defense on me. I tried to blow by him, but he stole the ball when I crossed to my left. He took the ball in aggressively, I was prepared for it. I thought he was going to try to put up a contact layup, but he hit me with one of those Kobe Bryant pivot spins and hit the fadeaway jumper. From then on out we just kept going back and forth until the score was 10-9, and Trey was up. I had ball after Trey dribbled it out. He passed me it, I decided to size him up, then hit him with a crossover, and finish him off with a step back. He was shook, and couldn't back in to play D, so I shot the jumper from 3. Nothing but net. He told me that he was going to block my next shot. I said whatever shorty. We checked it up, then I posted him up just to prove a point. I spun off for the layup, but he blocked me from behind. He went to the corner three and hit it to win. He pointed his finger to the sky, and started yelling this is my court. I went over to him.
Quincy: Aye man, that was actually a good game.
Trey: Yeah I was surprised you gave me that much of a challenge.
Quincy: Yeah same to you.
Trey: You better try out for the team at our shcool.
Quincy: Hell yeah.
Trey: Good. We need somebody like you. I'ma give you my number so we could workout together sometimes.
Quincy: Aight, sounds cool.
Trey: Aight, I'll holla at you later.
Quincy: Aight, I'm out. Peace!Last edited by BUCKSWEATSHIRT; 12-05-2013, 04:45 PM.Comment

Re: The Come Up: The Story of Quincy Daniels
For the past couple weeks I have been going on a schedule. Go to school by 7:30, get at least a C in all of my classes, go home finish my homework and some studying, then either go to the court to play some pickup games,or workout with Trey. It's now time for basketball tryouts. I know I'm ready, after working my but off with Trey. Trey has to be one of the most athletic 5'9 basketball players I've ever seen. Even more than Nate Robinson. OK maybe I'm sicing him, but he's pretty damn athletic for a Junior that's as small as he is.
End of the day
Damon approaches me at my lockerDamon:You ready for basketball tryouts?
Quincy: Yeah, I'm ready.
Damon: Good. You're lucky I couldn't try out I would've made you look bad.
Quincy: Stay in your lane bruh. You made it on the varsity football team as a freshmen. Don't risk getting hurt.
Damon: I know, I'm some cut at basketball anyway. *Chuckles*
Quincy: Nah your not some cut, your some cut but slut! * Cracking up*
Damon: Ah man whatever.
Quincy: Aight well I gotta report to the gym, so I'll see ya later.
Damon: Aight, good luck!
Quincy: Don't need none.
...Coach Johnson: Alright, let me get started by introducing my self for the new kids. My name is Grady Johnson. I will be your basketball coach for this year. I want to get you guys adjusted to the high school level if your freshmen, but if you're coming from a different school, then I'm going to help you learn the philosophy for our team. Now for all you players that have been here before I shouldn't have to tell you anything. You know the drill. As the coach I expect, you guys to try your hardest if you want to make this team. If your not going out there giving 100% you're not making this team. I don't care if your trying 99.9% of the time. That isn't 100% so I don't care. Now my least favorite part, if you came here knowing you are failing a class, then don't even bother coming. If I get a player on the team and it turns out he's failing science I'm going to be angry, so don't waste my time please. OK, I got the introduction out of the way. Lets get to the actual practice. The stuff we will be doing today is pretty simple. We will start off with you guys dribbling down the court for a full court layup. Then you will dribble down and take a pull up jumper. Next you will perform a 3 on 2 drill. The person who takes the shot gets back to defend the 2 people who were defending at first. After that you will perform a 3 man weave. Then for the last part of practice there will be five 5 on 5 games with 10 teams since we have 50 people trying out. Now lets go ahead and start the practice.* Coach blows the whistle*
Coach: It's time for the final part of practice, the 5 on 5 games. Now I have been taking notes and matching up the teams based on those. So team 1 and 10 will play against each other first. Team 1 consist of Jalen Willis, Sewell Squire, Travis Waggy, Adam Hawkins, and Kenneth Fulton. Team 10 has Myles Austin, Jordan Aviant, Quincy Daniels, Alonzo Bulloch, and Ryan Davis. Both teams go put on your jerseys, and get ready play.
Coach: OK, you guys get ready for the jump ball. *Throws the ball up*
Me and Sewell both played good for our match ups. Jalen Willis is just as good as Trey. I heard coach and the assistant coach talking. They were making great assessment's not being biased to anybody. Well except for Kenneth. I could understand though, you can't teach 6'10 as a freshmen. I can't wait to go back the tomorrow. I feel like I made a good impression to coach, showing I wasn't just a street ball player. I hope that feeling is right.Last edited by BUCKSWEATSHIRT; 12-05-2013, 09:08 PM.Comment

Re: The Come Up: The Story of Quincy Daniels
The final day of tryouts
Coach: Now that it is the final day I basically know who is making the team after 4 days, but that doesn't mean give up if you're in the bubble. I remember one certain player who is in the NBA now wasn't playing good the first 3 days of try outs. But on the last day he showed out and gave 110% effort and ended up making the team. His name was Tyson Chandler. Now look where he's at. With being said we will be playing 5 on 5 games the whole day. Get together with your teams so we can start playing quickly.
2013-14 Basketball Team
Jalen Willis
Jordan Avaint
Brian Stanley
Quincy Daniels
Alonzo Bulloch
Ryan Davis
Timothy Daley
Myles Austin
Sewell Squire
Ian Hector
Adam Hawkins
Khalil Jordan
Travis Waggy
Alex Avery
Yes! I made it! Time to go win a state championship my first year!
Practice...
Coach: First of all, I would like to congratulate you guys on making the team. Now that I got that out of the way lets go ahead and start with some conditioning drills. After that we will start to run some plays for the rest of practice. Now go run 10 laps around the gym.Conversation
Trey: So coach I think I have a idea of what the lineup should be.
Coach: OK go head and tell me.
Trey: Point will obviously be me. The 2 should be Timothy. 3 I think Quincy should start, no questions. The 4 should be Alonzo, and the 5 should be Khalil.
Coach: I think that's pretty accurate for now. Now go back out there and run those plays.
Trey: Yes sir!
Coach: You guys are running the plays better than I thought. I'm especially surprised how easily you were running some the plays Quincy, considering I found you on a street ball court. Now the practices will only get harder from here though, so don't let up now that you got some plays down. Overall you all worked hard, so I'm not going to carry this speech on. You guys may leave.
Quincy: Aye yo! Timothy, do you need a ride.
Timothy: Yeah, sure.
Quincy: Ight, then hop in the back.
Timothy: Thanks Q.
Quincy: No problem man.
Quincy: Thanks Mrs. Jackson for taking my friend home.
Mrs.Jackson: You're welcome Quincy. You live in the same house hold as me so I don't mind doing small task for you.
Timothy: Oh yeah I forgot you live with Damon Jackson. Our football teams starting corner back as a freshmen.
Quincy: Yeah. You're really good at basketball man.
Timothy: I know, I'm 6'1 and can already dunk. I know I have talent.
Quincy: Haha, alright don't sice your head up boy.
Timothy: Hahaha, just playing around. I'm humble.
Quincy: Yeah, is this your house right here.
Timothy: Yea. Thank you Mrs. Jackson.
Mrs. Jackson: You're welcome Timothy. Tell your mom I said Hi.
Timothy: Will do. Peace Q!
Quincy: See ya tomorrow Timothy.Last edited by BUCKSWEATSHIRT; 12-05-2013, 10:47 PM.Comment

Re: The Come Up: The Story of Quincy Daniels
The last couple of practices, my teammates seemed to be half-assing it. Coach got on us about it, but it didn't change. Sewell got suspended from the team because of his bad grades, and Ian is a headcase. He keeps on trying to fight some of the teammates. He didn't get suspended though. Also last practice coach announced who the starters would be. PG is Brian aka Trey, SG is Khalil, SF is me, PF is Alonzo, and center is Ryan. I thought Khalil would be a big man, but when you're a 6'7 sophomore with ball handling ability you could play guard. He could of at least played small forward instead of me. I'm just happy to be in the starting line up though. We are getting ready to play our first game on tomorrow against the Marina Vikings. This team shouldn't be to hard to beat. Their best player is senior point guard Derek Mallard. He's only 5'7, so he's a good match up for Trey. Other than that their team is pretty weak in depth, and undersized. That means Ryan and Alonzo should dominate.
Arriving home
After I put my stuff down I go straight to the refrigerator and see a note on the door.
Dear Quincy,
You will be in the house alone into Monday. Damon and me had to go to the hospital to check on my mother as she has got lung cancer. Don't bring anybody in the house, and keep the house neat.
Love, Mrs. Jackson
Timothy's House
Timothy: You ready for tomorrow?
Quincy: Nah, I'm actually kinda nervous.
Timothy: What, why?
Quincy: This will be my first time playing organized basketball.
Timothy: So what, Amare Stoudemire didn't play organized ball till high school.
Quincy: Yeah, but he was naturally gifted. He was standing tall and talented.
Timothy: You're 6'4. You are not that short.
Quincy: But...
Timothy: Look man there is nothing to be nervous about. You have a lot of talent, and you could put that to good use if you take basketball seriously.
Quincy: Aight man lets go ahead and get some rest, so we'll be ready tomorrow.
Timothy: OK, get yourself in the right mindset.
Quincy: I will.Last edited by BUCKSWEATSHIRT; 12-09-2013, 06:30 PM.Comment

Re: The Come Up: The Story of Quincy Daniels
Game day
Coach: Alright guys. Marina is not good compared to us, so I expect this to be a easy game. Y'all shouldn't have to work to hard to win this one. You have a huge size advantage, so I suggest you guys get the ball to Alonzo and Ryan. Even Khalil could dominate his match up. Just get ball in the post, and this one should be a blowout. Now go out there for warm ups.
During warm ups
Trey: Aye lil homie, you ready for your first organized game?
Quincy: Yeah man.
Trey: No you not. I can see it in your face. It's OK nervous now. Just get it out of your system during the game.
Quincy: Ight man, thanks for the advice.
Trey: That wasn't advice, I was telling you as the team leader.
Quincy: Oh, well alright.
We're about to get ready for player introductions. As soon as the PA announcer called my name all of the nervousness went away, and I started to feel like a fresh, and relieved. I was ready to murder the competition.Comment

Re: The Come Up: The Story of Quincy Daniels
Dons embarrass Vikings in first game of the season!
What a nice game for our Dons. We beat the Marina Vikings 80-26 in this one. Our leading scorer was Khalil Jordan who had 15 points and a acrobatic layup in this game. Our small forward Quincy Daniels also provided something, but not so much on offense, but as a lock down defender. He had 4 steals and a block on the player he was guarding. Overall it was a nice first game for our team. You can look at the stats below. The Vikings have asked us not to post their stats because they were ashamed.

That game went a lot better than I thought it would. I didn't really look to score. I was just worrying about providing the team as a defensive leader, while letting Trey be offensive leader. One thing I can't believe is that Adam hit 4 threes all swishes! I guess miracles do happen. HAHAAHA!Last edited by BUCKSWEATSHIRT; 12-12-2013, 05:50 PM.Comment
