Winston-Salem, NC -- The Winston-Salem State Rams have announced today that they have signed Tyrell Coley as their new men's basketball head coach. This will be Coley's first head coaching position, as he previously held the positions of graduate assistant and assistant head coach over five years at Virginia Tech. Coley has been on the Hokies coaching staff since graduating from the school, and at 25 years old will the youngest head coach in Division I basketball.

"We are excited to have Coach Coley as a member of our program." said Winston-Salem AD William Hayes. "We hope that Coley will help usher in a new regime of basketball here as we begin our transitional membership into Division I athletics."

Winston-Salem State will join the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) as a transitional member, previously playing in the Division II Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). They compiled a record of just 5-24 last season, compared to back-to-back 22-8 records in the two seasons prior.

"I'm excited to have an opportunity to be a head coach." said Coley. "I'm looking forward to helping build this program, North Carolina is a hotbed of basketball recruits as well as tough competition and I want nothing more than to make this program as strong as possible, athletically and academically. My philosophy emphasizes strong defense, offensive ball movement, and communication. I'm excited for the upcoming season."

Coley takes over a Rams program with a proud history, home to names like Hall of Famer Clarence E. "Big House" Gaines, who won 828 games in 48 seasons, as well as Earl "The Pearl" Monroe, who owns 9 of the Top 10 scoring performances in Winston-Salem State history as well as the school record for most points scored per game in a season with 41.7.

Winston-Salem State will announce their 2007-08 season schedule in the 2007-08 Season Preview section.

Re: Follow The Bouncing Ball - A CH2k8 Coaching Legacy

Winston-Salem, NC -- Winston-Salem State University Athletic Director William Hayes has announced and released the schedule for the men's basketball 2007-08 season. In their first season in the MEAC, Winston-Salem State is projected to finish eighth, ahead of Bethune-Cookman, Coppin State, Howard, and Maryland-Eastern Shore. Morgan State is expected to win the conference.

As for the schedule, Hayes had to say that "I feel the out of conference schedule we have set forth for our men's basketball team will be a strong barometer for them. We will be more that sufficiently prepared for conference play as we hope to make a strong impact this season."

          Here is the 2007-08 schedule.

          Code:

03/06 at South Carolina State* (68)
As shown, the road will not be all that easy for Winston-Salem State. They will stay on the east coast, with early season trips to Maryland and Massachusetts to play Navy and Northeastern respectively.

The Rams will then travel to Newark, NJ to participate in the 2007 Legends Classic at the Prudential Center. This will probably have them in over their heads, as the other competitors are all ranked - #15 Texas, #6 Tennessee, and #19 West Virginia.

Conference play will begin early as they take on South Carolina State on December 1st, with four non-conference games in between that matchup and the next conference opponent.

Senior Day will be held February 25th against Norfolk State, followed by three games on the road with the season concluding March 6th at South Carolina State.

The 2008 MEAC Basketball Tournament will be held from March 11-15th at the RBC in Raleigh, NC.

"I like the schedule we have in place." said Head Coach Tyrell Coley. "We have some tough competition in the Legends Classic, but that's not to say we'll be taking any opponent lightly. We play to win every game."

Midnight Madness is October 22nd, and the season will begin November 9th vs College of Charleston.

Always like seeing these guys play in their college days, plus I went with the 2007-08 as to not have the time gap (2013 players playing in 2007). This is a link to 2007-08 named rosters (http://www.operationsports.com/forum...3-rosters.html), but I can't recall if these are the same ones I've used. I added it to my PS3 by way of USB.

Bad news: playing my 1st game of the season my game froze in the 2nd half. I was trying to adjust my playbook because the one I created, the one I assigned and the one I went to into the game with were all different.

Good news: I was shooting south of 25% and losing by double-digits. Granted they weren't shooting all that well either, but I can never find sliders I'm ok with in this game.

I am on 360. However I do own a PS3 and thought I should look for a copy of 2k8 sometime just so I have it.

College of Charleston (0-0) at Winston-Salem State (0-0)
                    November 9, 2007 - LJVM Coliseum Annex - Winston-Salem, NC

The College of Charleston used a strong second half behind 15 forced turnovers and a 55% shooting night to run away with a 90-65 over Winston-Salem State in the season opener for both teams.

The Cougars (1-0) only led by eight at halftime, but quickly increased their lead with a 11-2 run to start the second half. Winston-Salem State never made the gap closer than double-digits at that point.

Marcus Hammond led all scorers with 17 points, while four others reached double digits in scoring for Charleston. Greg Lewis led Winston-Salem State (0-1) with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Roy Peake added 10 points and four assists in the loss.

"We had a rough patch in the second half and could not overcome the deficit because of it." said Coach Coley. "They weren't missing their baskets, and when we couldn't match them point for point the game got out of hand."

Charleston's scoring was a team effort, with half their scoring coming from the bench and 42 points scored in the paint. They also hit 11 threes and took 19 free throws, never trailing in the game.

The game being Coach Tyrell Coley's first as the head coach of Winston-Salem State did not go at all as planned as both the 2-3 zone and man-to-man defense proved ineffective. The Rams will try to bounce back November 13th in Annapolis against Navy.

                        Winston-Salem State (0-1) at Navy (0-2)
                        November 13, 2007 - Alumni Hall - Annapolis, MD

Difficulties hanging onto the ball and from the charity stripe lead to Winston-Salem State falling by double-digits once again this season, losing 79-61 to Navy.

The Rams (0-2) committed 19 turnovers, leading to 16 fast break points from the Midshipmen. That combined with missing nine of 17 free throws kept the Rams from being any threat in the game as Navy never trailed in the second half.

Winston-Salem State led 25-21 before Navy used a 15-4 run to end the half and never looked back.

"It's hard to win games when you give the ball away, honestly." said Coach Coley. "We didn't take care of the ball, and when that happens games will get out of hand. So we'll take what we've learned in this game and put it to work for making the next game a better effort."

Darrell Wonge and Brian Fisher each had 13 points from Winston-Salem State. Roy Peake committed 10 of the 19 turnovers for the Rams, but being the only point guard the Rams use in their lineup, it begs to question if the turnovers will continue. Isiah Tucker is still a freshman and got some playing time tonight. It is possible that Tucker may see more in the future should Peake's performance remain abysmal.

The one positive for Winston-Salem State is that they held Navy to just 15% shooting from beyond the arc.

Winston-Salem State will return home to play Saint Francis (PA) on Friday.

I remember another WSSU legacy where Alcius was a pretty nice offense threat. Does he have decent ratings?

Also see you struggled with Fisher again. Is it his shot, or just the fact you havn't played in awhile?

Alcius is decent if I can get him the ball inside 5 feet. He's a 58 overall with 81 close, but 66 medium, 50 layup, 66 dunk, and 55 hands (I feel that plays into the fact the ball goes flying in the air something when I try to run the pick and roll with him).

As for Fisher, it's moreso the defense. I'm not able to get good shots with him, there's usually a hand in his face when he puts a shot up. He's 75 close, 74 medium, 79 3PT, and 64 overall.

I'll be following your dynasty too. Although we have different rosters, it'll be interesting to see if either of us can turn a winning record in year one
