Regaining The West - A Utah Jazz Association

So i wasn't planning on doing another one of these but with the release of our SimWorld Fictional League i just couldn't help myself after playing a few games.

Before i get into anything dynasty related I'm going to run through a few housekeeping things.

Links to all files used will be at the bottom of the post.

    Game mode: Association(82gms)
    Sliders: LEAGUE Sliders
    Rosters: The LEAGUE: Gold Edition
Draft Classes: CWSapp757/Dreece Fictional Draft Class paradise!!

House Rules: (Borrowed from Dreece with adjustments)

    1. I play 2 predeterminded games in each calendar year(simming the rest)I play all playoff games if we qualify

    2. I will only be controlling my team.

    3. ABSOLUTELY no in season drills! Post season drills are allowed on 1st and 2nd year players only.

    4. Can only trade or attain a 1st round pick once every 3 years.

    5. The use of untapped potential is allowed but only once every 3 years...give your young guys time to develop. On rare occassions will a real life NBA team continue to draft high rated players at the same position before they know if they lost out on their initial investment.

Re: Regaining The West - A Utah Jazz Association

Truth be told, when i entered THE LEAGUE and i had envisioned great things. We're all dreamers to some extent. It's safe to say the offers were few and far between, but what else do you expect as a first time GM. I was left to choose between the Orlando Magic and the Utah Jazz. Both lowly ranked teams.

Eventually i went with Utah. Why? The beach is fun for a visit, but i'd much rather be in reach of the mountains.

    Anyway i'm off topic.

I met with the teams owners and they sat me down with Coach Tyrone Corbin to discuss the teams roster they had assembled.

Things didn't look great, but then again things could definitely have been worse. Kareem Bishop had a max deal of which he is most deserving. He will be the team captain and our guiding light.

On the other hand Brent Fitness has a lot to live up too for a $21mil contract especially with super 6th Nick Houston on the bench hungry for minutes.

Coach and I decided to hold a shootaround tomorrow which would also serve as a meet and greet then we'd be straight into business on opening night. With a home game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

      GAME DAY - OPENING NIGHT

I knew good and well coming into this we'd have a battle. Not only as the underdogs facing off a team who were almost guaranteed a playoff spot. But also my first as a GM. I didn't know what to expect.

While i was pleasantly surprised in some aspects and blown away in others. Ultimately some of my earlier fears were made rather apparent. I know it's the first game of a long season but for somebody making $21 million over the next two years with an option for the third i needed more from Brent Fitness. A so called corner specialist, he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. But he did provide in other aspects.

I put it down to early season nerves and possibly the extensive minutes our starters played. I couldn't understand what Coach was doing, but we had words after the game and he said it would be righted before the game in Phoenix on Friday.

Kareem came up absolutely massive just as i had expected making an early case for MVP. Also fellow big man Gustaf showed the team and the fans he won't be letting anybody into our house. 9 blocks... My god who does that.

My last point of note from our opening game was our super 6th Nick Houston. Without him we would never have come close to Oklahoma. He will definitely be seeing more minutes in future games.

      Onto the box score.

Re: Regaining The West - A Utah Jazz Association

        November 2, 2013

We're back home again after our game in Phoenix last night where we came away with our first win of the season. I definitely underestimated this team when I came onboard. We have a star in Kareem Bishop. Everybody knows that. What i didn't expect was the team play we have among the rest of our guys.

I wouldn't call last night a good win. We started extremely well with a 15-3 run. After that i'm not quite sure what happened. Perimeter defense is a real weakness, were aren't contesting nearly enough jump shooters.

Once again Nick Houston led the way for us, with his energy and confidence of the bench. Although a slightly less efficient game than he had against OKC. On the other side of that Brent Fitness came out and shot 7-9 which was good for 16 points. He's certainly still struggling from outside though.

Well i will leave you with a copy of the box score but it's game day again for us so i need to catch up with the team and speak with coach. We have a couple days off after this game so i feel like it will be a great time to catch up with some of the guys and see how they are feeling.
