Rough start for KY, but that was expected considering in basketball videogames nowadays the big men are barely used at all. I considered making a guard but I felt that the majority of the CAPs would be as such.

      Crazy game for Kane though!

Nah, I liked the choice. Just in this situation, the ball went to Kane, otherwise KY would have had a double\/double.

Ryan shooting 27% is embarrassing for a SG but those rebounds are nice.

They finish up the first round of games tomorrow night, against the Harrisburg Miners.

And that's Round 1/14. I'll put the standings in one of the reserved posts, and put up a recap article later this week (tomorrow, probably).

Story-lines Abound As NEAC Gets Its National Bearings

                              Untitled-1copy_zpsc24b7feb.png

As the NEAC made its NCAA debut, Friday night on ESPN2, Marv Albert called it with signature flair, announcing: "Alright boys, welcome to the big time!" The NEAC is a freshman-dominated NCAA conference, relatively small but in an excellent market for basketball, the northeast.

After DJ Porter, FR Center for the Hartford Lumberjacks, won the inaugural tip-off against Shaq Davis, BU's freshman Center, NEAC commissioner AJ113 exhaled. The work, the time spent, the self-degrading executive begging, had paid off: the season's tip-off got a full house in Baltimore and a national audience. Marv Albert's "boys" were here to stay.

In that inaugural game, the sloppy Baltimore Wolves only managed 42 points. Their lone bright spot was FR SF Omero Kai, who scored a game-high 16 points and had a few nice plays in a disappointing loss. On the other side of the ball, the 'Jacks relished BU's turnovers, capitalizing on 20 fast-break points. FR SF Red Sky (10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists) won player of the game.

The second game, which had all the makings of a bust, in fact gave the NEAC a new sharpshooting star. FR SG Jo Kane poured in 34 points as his team came back from down 25-4, falling just short in a 78-70 loss to the Buffalo Bilikens. Kane hit 9 3-pointers, as Camden's offense looks to be a 3-point machine (FR C Kenneth Yates can also hit a couple longballs).

The third game was perhaps the most enthralling of the NEAC's opening weekend, the closest of the lot at 73-69. The Rochester Challengers beat the Bel-Air Royals behind strong play from FR's Bryce Robinson and Russell Taylor. Each scored 10 points, with Robinson picking up 9 boards to Taylor's 7. Robinson had the highlight of the weekend, dunking a 180º alley-oop from FR PG Angelo Valdez (team-high 16 points). Bel-Air's touted SG Trey Youngblood scored 16 points.

The weekend's final game saw the Dover Colonials defeat the Harrisburg Miners 71-64. Despite FR PF Jerry Malone's league-high 12 rebounds and FR PG Stone Harper's 8 free-throws to ice the game late, the main story-lines were on Harrisburg's side of the ball. FR's Anthony Brown (SG) and Jay Greyvenstein (SF) proved to be a deadly duo: Brown scored 33 points while Greyvenstein added 24 along with 5 boards, 4 assists and 5 steals.

The NEAC will announce its player of the week [tonight at 8:00] on Tuesday.

The next round of games will feature the following match-ups:
                              Harrisburg Miners @ Hartford Lumberjacks
                              Dover Colonials @ Buffalo Bilikens
                              Baltimore Wolves @ Rochester Challengers
                              Camden Wildcats @ Bel-Air Royals
