While I was going through the process of posting updates in my "Recapturing the Magic" dynasty thread, I came to the realization that I enjoyed doing the writing more than I did actually playing the game. Not that NBA 2K14 isn't fun, mind you, and I don't mind playing the occasional game here and there, but I guess I've always been more of an observer than a decider. I have done so many MyGMs and Associations where I don't play games but make trades, sign players and scout prospects that it would make so many heads spin, and playing games tends to get in the way of that. I may go back to that thread before too long, but I had another idea that I wanted to roll with. This one will be much easier for me, because all I will need to do is type out reports, game results, stats and standings, etc. In other words, it's what I liked the most about doing the "Recapturing the Magic" dynasty, only without the games themselves causing me to lose interest.
In this thread, I plan on doing realistic draft classes every year (used side-by-side with JA Money14's Realistic Xbox One roster) and simming seasons either a week or a month at a time, all the while doing the things that I enjoyed doing the most in my previous dynasty. I'm also hoping that I can get you, the OS community, involved in ways beyond just providing me a CAP. In this case, I was heavily inspired by Cope Digital's National Basketball League CAP thread. It's completely optional, but I would love for this thread to become a living, breathing world in and of itself, with personalities coming alive and helping to drive the story further along, as well as, admittedly, giving me more things to write about.

As for the most important part of the process, I had two plans to choose from. The first was to take the idea that I had for my Magic dynasty thread and use the CAP formula I came up with there. If you have not seen this formula, just click here to see the whole post. If you want a summary, think of it as a tier system with undetermined potentials. I think that it could have used some work, however, which is why I considered a second option. This option would combine my idea with that coming from jpshua15 and his awesome Fantasy Draft Class Project. Instead of having "tiers", I would use a letter grade system that would work similarly to that of jpshua's, only the OVR ratings slightly lower to account for the more realistic classes.
The one key difference from my idea and maybe jpshua's is that I'm going to allow you, the OS member, to decide what your player's potential should be...with one big catch. There are a set number of potentials in any given draft, and these numbers will change every year. For example, in a good year, there would be 3 spots reserved for all-star potential players, 6 spots for long-time starter potential players, and 9 spots reserved for long-time role player/occasional starter potential players. In another year, there may be less all-star potential players or less starter potential players or perhaps both. Of course, there are probably some of you who'd rather just go for players with less potential, and that's fine, too. This rule is in place primarily so that the draft remains realistic and does not get out of hand.
Everything needed to sign-up will be in the post right below this one, including the letter rankings, the overalls for the respective letter grades, and the possible potentials to choose from, as well as, of course, the application sheet.
With that said, are you ready to take over the NBA? The opportunity is there. The world is yours to take.
