October 29th, 2017 - One Step Away, Hopefully

Stress was the perfect way to describe it -- dealing with two female psychopaths wasn’t easy…

Kendall occasionally recalled back to his senior year in high school when his biggest threat was complete death -- a couple months ago it was time in the penitentiary. Michelle and Holly… Those two ladies were doing their best to make Kendall’s life a living hell! Luckily he’d successfully gotten Michelle out with the restraining order but Holly on the other hand, she was the mother to his two children, she’d be around forever and there was nothing Kendall could do about it because never would he think about doing what his own father did and abandon his kids. That wasn’t his forte, but being a college athlete and having kids out in Las Vegas simply made it hard to see them consistently and Holly didn’t like that – at all.

Still, Kendall stayed on his grind. Not really, lately he had been living the intriguing college lifestyle that Holly could’ve had if it wasn’t for Kendall; she could’ve been at the academic powerhouse of Stanford but instead she was stuck raising Kendall’s kids by herself with a little help from her parents.

Kendall didn’t quite know what to do about the situation… He was a student-athlete at Oregon, a university representing several future professional athletes -- this was the opportunity of a lifetime and it couldn’t be wasted. His first game was just right around the corner and Kendall pressured himself to have the best season of his life because he didn’t want to stick around in college for any longer than what he needed to. Every night he told himself he was “one step away” because this summer his plans weren’t to return to Oregon for his senior season, he wanted to be in New York waiting for Adam Silver to call his name in the top five of the 2018 NBA Draft.

For now, he’d need to get through everything that was currently on his agenda.

“Damn man,” Kendall rolled around in his bed struggling to open his eyes after a long Sunday, “What the heck.” He fails multiple times at disabling his phone’s obnoxious alarm clock before he’s able to convert his mind to the real world, he checked the time and put the pieces together to realize the alarm had been going for about ten minutes – he had to go!

There he was, running around his apartment like his life was on the life… He knew Coach Altman wasn’t much of a fan of him, he had heard about Kendall’s incidents and personally called him out about how he felt like he ‘wasn’t focused with basketball’. Kendall didn’t like that at all but he refrained himself from blowing at that moment, he wasn’t the star at the small school anymore so he couldn’t get away with things like that.

He grabbed his jacket after hearing the rain drizzling off the roof of his modern but compactly built apartment – much better than what he had back in Greeley.

When he got outside to his car he put the keys in the ignition and tried to start it up -- nothing.

“****!” Kendall exclaimed, he tried again repeatedly and got no result after realizing his old Kia which had exceeded over 350,000 miles had finally gave in, he had been dragging the car everywhere ever since his junior year of high school. His mom had bought it for him for his birthday back then… He heaped the struggle and took a long breather before getting out the car and kicking the door which created a dent. He thought about calling somebody but then again it was five thirty in the morning and his teammates were probably already at the arena. He punched his palm and took off running down the campus grounds while being shattered with the rain.

Kendall had managed to run just over two miles in about eleven minutes but his luck ran out when he entered the locker room as the only individual left. He mumbled curse words and rushed his practice uniform on before running out to the floor, drawing immediate attention from both his teammates and coaches.

“The hell you think this is, Jenkins?” Coach Altman says as the men stretch. “You expect to be in the starting five and you can’t even make it to practice on time?”

      “My car broke—“

Dan Altman rejects Kendall’s explanation and continues his own, “Just get over here and get ready, you better start picking things up, Jenkins.”

Kendall had second thoughts on just how smooth this season would go.

The guard position is stacked, so far he's scheduled for 15 minutes a game. If he can begin to outperform jean snow and potter he will move up.

              November 2nd, 2017 - Ready

“Get on the ******* line,” Altman yells while throwing his planner to the ground. “I’m getting tired of you guys constantly ****ing up the damn play. The ball is not a damn time bomb, you don’t need to get rid of it as soon as you get it! Calm the hell down… Run a double suicide then run the play again.”

The men take off running up and down the lines of the McArthur court while trying to escape the much needed gasp of breath… Coach had them running all afternoon.

“Now, I’ll keep you guys in here until midnight or you can make one good play and you’re out, I want to get home, let’s go.”

Kendall steps back in the corner on offense. He was still running with the green team which was complied with the bench players, this pissed Kendall off as he realized his time to impress the coaches was quickly ticking. He had been practicing well for the past couple of weeks and had made a couple of appearances on the yellow team so hopefully when coach made the announcement he’d crack a spot.

“Princeton high, Princeton high!” Jerald yells as he dribbled the ball up from the half court line, the yellow squad set up on defense – Dontae’ defended Kendall from the corner. Jerald feeds the ball to Garry who seals position at the top of the key, he reverse pivots and see’s Kendall who’s still in the corner while Dontae’ stepped in for help defense. He lobs it over and Kendall jumps to catch the high ball which gave Dontae’ an easy task of closing out.

“You ain’t got **** Kendall!” He exclaimed while shoving his hand very close into Kendall’s face. Dontae’ had basically been Kendall’s first friend on campus but when they were on the court he hated him, it wasn’t personal but he felt Dontae’ talked trash every chance he got.

Kendall got fired up and took in the words before jab stepping to the baseline and using his first step to explode off the dribble while doing his best to stay in bounds as he powers himself to the hoop where he goes up against the 6’8 Jordan Bell who jumps up to contest the shot.

Gerald was open and Doakai had some space at the opposite short corner so the coaches were ready to yell at Kendall but when he flushed down a slam over Jordan they had a quick change of mind. “Wow!” “Damn!” “Kid’s going to be just fine!”

Kendall looked back at Dontae’ with a death stare that made him regret his words. Jordan patted him on the back despite the fact that the team was going to be talking about this for at least a month.

Coach Altman blows his whistle and everybody looks at him, “Good shot contest, good take, that’ll do it for today… Sacramento State is in two days, I know you boys have been waiting to hear this so I’ll be announcing the starting five; Ahmad you’ll be running the one, Jaquan the two, then Kendall, Dontae, and Jordan. These are not final,” Coach specifically looks in Kendall’s direction, “We’re running with two small forwards in the mix, I don’t know how that’s going to work in the Pac but we’ll use our non-conference schedule to test it… So with that being said, come back tomorrow more focused, we’ll be looking over a little more film and we’ll hit the floor as well. Have a good night.”

Kendall returned home and instantly called his mom, his family from St. Louis, he called Charlie, he called Brittney, he even called his old teammates from Northern Colorado like Chase, Tim, and Jordan. He was happier than ever.

A lot of people agreed to come out to Eugene to see him play in his first game with Oregon. They were expecting big things and so was Kendall, especially against Sacrmento State, he was going to dominate just like he did at NC; nothing less.

OREGON OPENS SEASON WITH WIN OVER VISITING SACRAMENTO STATE

                  COURTESY: GODUCKS.COM
                  RELEASE DATE: 11/5/2017

                  by Stan Kane
                  Editor, GoDucks.com

EUGENE, ORE — It might have been an unexpectedly low winning margin but the Oregon Ducks captured their first win in game one of the 2017-2018 season against Sacramento State, 73-68, in front of a nearly sold out home crowd at the McArthur Arena on Friday.

How It Happened: Fans expected a complete shutout as the Ducks went up against a Big Sky team in Sacramento State -- that was not exactly what they got. Instead this game was much more competitive than what anybody pictured. Oregon came out hitting everything and got themselves a big lead early on, their luck ran out as the shots stopped falling and Sacramento State rallied to answer back as their junior shooting guard Johnathan Williams got the hot hand in his second start of his career. They used his push and stuck with the hosting Ducks for the majority of the half to hit the locker rooms down by just one point, the score being 41-40.

The next twenty minutes was not much of a different story. Oregon continued their struggles from the field while Sacramento State’s Travis Adler manned the offensive glass, giving his team plenty of second chances. Around the ten minute mark the game was very close of being an upset, Sacramento State refused to let Oregon run away with it until the new kid in town stepped up, Kendall Jenkins, he didn’t have much of a first half in his debut with Oregon but Jenkins finished the second with twelve points to add on to his starting eight. The Ducks overall forced the Hornets to 17 turnovers that played a big role late in the game as the Ducks were able to get on the break quite a bit.

With time running out, Oregon defeated the visitors 73-68.

Who Stood Out: Kendall Jenkins, who previously transferred to Oregon from Northern Colorado, scored 20 points in his debut with Ducks and also recorded a team high 13 rebounds. The forward hit a handful of much needed shots to keep the Ducks alive in the second half. Dontae’ Brown had 15 points which was one more than Jaquan Lyle’s 14. Ahmad Rorie was quiet, only playing 18 minutes but adding 9 points and 4 assists.

Quotable: “It was an irritable game, a lot of times big schools underestimate the small schools and think they can just come in and run them over. That was the case tonight, Sacramento State gave us a good game, we’re generally a great shooting team but none of our shots would fall tonight. Luckily we came out with the win.” – UO coach Dana Altman

“I was real familiar with this team, I dropped 32 on them when I played with North Colorado. We scored 100 on them I think, things are different with Oregon; I can’t just call for the ball and get it but when I kept looking up and seeing that they were sticking with us on the scoreboard I had to take over.” – UO forward Kendall Jenkins

“All our starters are upperclassmen, they’ve all got experience in games like this and I believe they gave Oregon a hard time. We defended them well, we got to the line, we did a lot of the little things but we just fell short on the scoreboard. I think one thing to take away from this game is the obvious fact that we almost beat this ranked Oregon team on their home court, that’s a great sign.” – UST coach Brian Katz

What It Means: Despite the win, Oregon who’s ranked the #18th best school in the nation, will expect to get an earful of criticism. Sacramento State went 7-22 last season and this game was supposed to be nothing more than an opportunity for the coaching staff and fans to get their first sight of the school going against competition other than themselves.

Upsides and Downsides: Oregon shot the ball 35%, I repeat – Oregon shot the ball 35%. They shot 20% from three – once again I repeat: Oregon shot 20% from three. That’s simply unheard of in terms of Oregon basketball, especially in the McArthur Arena. Last season these guys shot the three ball 39.3% which exceeds both of their numbers tonight. On the good side, Oregon outrebounded Sacramento State 46-31 and hit 21 of their 28 free throw attempts.

Up Next: The Ducks will travel south to the Pan American Center to take on New Mexico State who’s coming off a 62-82 loss against CSU Bakersfield.

Welcome to the Recruits Shaping the Future series, here I'll follow a list of basketball prospects including Dontae Brown, Kane Herren, Tuomas Kousa, Nuka Seyde, Damon Wright, Harry Fredhman, Cole Campbell, Stone Harper, Bob Bolig, Emmanuel Porter Jr., Treyvonn Damon, Tyler Manilow, Tyrone Damon, Rocco White, and Devante Brown. The college basketball season is three weeks in, let's see how are prospects are doing.

                      STATS
                      Spoiler

                      Dontae' Brown – Oregon
                      • High School All-American
                      • High School All-State
                      • Freshman All-Conference
                      • First-Team All-Conference
                      • Team Record: 5-0
                      • Pro Buzz: Dark Horse

Dontae' started the season with 15 points against Sacramento State, things got weird from there... Brown scored 4 points against New Mexico State and then just 3 against Idaho after getting into foul trouble. He would go on to pick it up from there as the Duck's defeated #7 UNLV 80-57, Brown had 15 points on 7-11 shooting. Recently he knocked down 14 against Grambling.

                      Kane Herren – Holy Cross
                      [LIST][*]Team Record: 2-2
                      • High School All-Conference

Kane Herren is now a freshman at Holy Cross and it isn't going so well for him. The guard only sees about 6 minutes of playing time as the Knights start the season 2-2. Ironically his school started their schedule against Herren's dream college -- Penn State, they'd go on to lose 75-69 and then fall once more to Long Island 65-66... They won their last two games against Harvard and Sacred Heart.

                      Tuomas Kousa - Undecided
                      • High School Team Record: 9-0
                      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Tuomas made the move to play basketball in the United States for his senior year of high school, he's currently running with Hungtington Prep and holds the backcourt with four star junior Marquise Buckendahl. Penn State and Miami lead the running for Kousa, other teams interested include South Florida, South Carolina, Auburn, and West Virginia.

                      Nuka Seyde – Temple
                      • Team Record: 1-4
                      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Nuka finally got his chance, the junior has made his way into the lineup after competing for two years. While his team is doing the opposite of good, Nuka is playing well and recently made his career high in points with 14 against Iona.

                      Damon Wright – Rutgers
                      • Freshman All-Conference
                      • Team Record: 3-1
                      • Pro Buzz: First Round

Yeah... So Damon Wright is turning into a superstar. He started things off against Eastern Kentucky, he had 14 points as his Rutgers team took off with a 96-63 win. Against UMKC he recorded 22, then they took a roadtrip to Kentucky where they lost 64-76 despite Wright's 21... Their most recent game against Dartmouth put Wright on the map, the guard scored 38 points on 15-23 shooting.

                      Harry Fredman – Duke
                      • Second-Team All-American
                      • Freshman of the Year
                      • Freshman All-American
                      • Conference Freshman of the Year
                      • First-Team All-Conference x2
                      • Freshman All-Conference
                      • Team Record: N/A
                      • Pro Buzz: Drafted

More information to come once I get my Xbox One.

                      Cole Campbell – Notre Dame
                      • Team Record: 1-2
                      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Nortre Dame doesn't have much depth on their team which is the main reason Cole Campbell is leading the team with 32.7 minutes per game. The team is 1-2 after dropping close games to Hartford and Tulane, their next stop is Georgia to finish a tournament. Campbell is doing his best to get his team on the right track, he's averaging a team high 3.3 steals per game and is shooting well for 12 points a game.

                      Stone Harper - Stanford
                      • Team Record: 2-1
                      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Stanford's starting five has been very productive so far and Stone Harper has been a big part of it. He's filling the stat sheet with highs in points, rebounds, assists, and steals. Head over to the percentage department and he's shooting 56% from the field! His best game was the opener against Longwood where he had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals but you can't escape the fact that he allowed Lucas Woodhouse to score a career high 34 points.

                      Bob Bolig - Pittsburgh
                      • High School All-Conference
                      • High School All-State
                      • High School State Champion
                      • Team Record: 2-2
                      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Bob Bolig can't be happy, he's on the bench for 6'8" Antanas Beatty who's averaging 1.5 rebounds. His fellow freshman teammate who's also 7'0 is playing well with around 10 points a game and 6.5 rebounds. Bolig on the other hand is not getting enough action. When he faced off against Temple he got some time against Nuka Seyde who had been in his shoes for the past two years.

                      Tyler Manilow – Northern Colorado
                      • High School All-Conference
                      • High School All-State
                      • High School All-Academic
                      • High School State Runner Up
                      • Team Record: N/A
                      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Northern Colorado plays a sixth man role that seems to be shared with the entire bench. The guard is averaging 17.3 minutes a game behind starting senior Jordan Wilson. His best game has against Purdue where he knocked down 16 points on 4-6 shooting including 2 threes. He received an increase in minutes against Troy and went 3-8 [2-6 3PT] for 8 points and five assists.

                      Emmanuel Porter Jr. - Kentucky
                      • High School All-Conference

Kentucky isn't off the hottest start but Porter is showing the nation why he was a highly touted recruit. His top game was against Damon Wright and Rutgers where he went for 20 points and 13 rebounds. He'd follow that game with a 14 points performance against E. Tennesee State and 17 against Virginia; however the Wildcats lost both of those games.

                      Treyvonn Damon - Arizona
                      • High School All-Conference
                      • High School All-State
                      • High School All-American

Treyvonn Damon is running with arguably the most stacked Arizona team the NCAA will ever see (9 +80 OVR players lol)... He made his first start in the Wildcat's most recent game against Ohio, Damon scored 13 points, recorded 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Along with that he had three threes and 4-8 FG shooting.

                      Hugh Hart - North Carolina
                      • High School All-Conference
                      • High School All-State
                      • Team Record: 0-3
                      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

North Carolina is like a new team and the results show on the floor... UNC starting the season 0-3??? Yes, they've loss to VCU, Saint Peter's, and then Georgia. Hugh Hart is playing around 9 minutes a game behind sophomore Charles Hooks, he has only hit one field goal in his UNC career.

                      Tyrone Damon - Oregon
                      • High School All-American
                      • High School All-Conference
                      • High School All-State
                      • Team Record: 5-0
                      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Tyrone Damon was suspended two games for violation of NCAA recruiting rules, he made a rocky debut against Idaho from the bench where he scored just 1 points but a positive 5 rebounds... Against UNLV he made SportsCenter top 10 with a posterizing dunk on a fast break but he's still got a lot of competetion ahead of him before he makes the starting five... He's been hovering with around 15 minutes a game.

                      Rocco White - Texas A&M
                      • High School All-Conference
                      • Team Record: 4-1
                      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Texas A&M has lost only one game and that was against #1 Ohio State, the final score was 100-64... Rice in particular played just 7 minutes for 0 points. His best game was the opener against Sam Houston State, he scored 6 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.

                      Devante Brown - Undecided
                      • High School All-Conference (Junior)
                      • High School State Champion (Freshman)
                      • High School Team Record: 5-0
                      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Devante is the brother of Dontae, both attended the same school in Brooklyn and Devante was typically in the shadows of his sucessful All-American brother. Well now, as a senior Devante has taken charge and leads his school to a 5-0 record while putting up big numbers. He's gettinng interests from Villinova, NC State, Boston College, Syracuse, Penn State, and his brother has made a push to get him to Oregon but Devante says he wants to make his own legacy.

                      * You guys have full control over your players so if you want to transfer, work on a specific part of your game, declare for draft, etc then just comment and I'll do it.

Yeah seyde has had a rough career until now, i think he'd be great at a small school where he could be the best player. Thanks for following!
