NBA Comparison: Josh Smith/Darius Miles
Strengths: Great finisher at the rim, excels at finishing through contact… Very athletic, runs the floor and gets easy points on the fast break… More than capable ball handler, when he played at Northern Colorado he sometimes played the point forward role… Is insanely good on the offensive glass, at the time this was written he was averaging 3.3 offensive rebounds per game, basically outworking matchups… Good hesitation move that is often his go-to when he attacks the rim… Has a strong first step and can turn corners very quickly…. Very versatile, has played basically every position throughout his life. Constantly makes ways to get to the line, when there he shoots a decent 72%. Has an improving mid-range jump shot that he looks to against tougher defensive teams... Has cut down his turnover numbers from 2.6 (at Northern Colorado) to 1.5 (at Oregon)… Becoming a much better shot blocker – his numbers have improved greatly to 1 block per game… Plays the passing lanes well with 1.7 steals per game… Doesn’t foul too often…
Weaknesses: While it’s gotten better, he’s not a good on-ball defender… Terrible pick and roll defender… Some say he has an attitude on the floor and doesn’t put much trust into his teammates… While at Northern Colorado he constantly demanded the ball… Reportedly arrives to practice late at times… Has good court vision but doesn’t do a good job with getting the ball there… Often tries to do too much in the passing game… Three point shot is non-existent in his game… Not ready for the next level, still lacks the needed aspects, physically and mentally... Shows very poor body language when benched or accident is made on a teammates part… Makes ill-advised plays at time, forcing turnovers (seen often at Northern Colorado)… Summarized as a one way player, doesn’t play aggressive on defense…
Notes: Jenkins turned in an outstanding freshman season at Northern Colorado and won freshman All-American honors with averages at 18.9 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.8 steals. He carried the team to the NCAA tournament with a record of 16-13 before losing to Oklahoma in the first round. Following that season he transferred to Oregon to pursue his NBA hopes after not receiving very many looks at the small school… Jenkins’s athleticism at his size is what sets him apart from other small forwards in the draft pool. The only thing holding him back are his jump shot, maturity, and decision making skill. When he develops/strengthens those three attributes he’s draft stock may very well skyrocket.
Jenkins is currently suffering from a broken toe injury that’s expected to keep him sidelined for about a month, his averages around 15 points and 6 rebounds for the Ducks who are currently 16-1 (4-0 without Jenkins, win margin set at 17.3)
