I got called and asked if I would work tomorrow, so my day's off for the week are done. Depending on what my evening looks like, I might get the Pac-10 tourney preview posted as well as make a post of bubble teams going into conference tourney play.

Pac-10 Tourney Preview
The #10 (23-6/14-4) USC Trojans held on and won the regular season title for the 2nd straight year and 3rd time in the past 4 seasons. They will be the #1 seed and wait to play the winner of the (12-16/6-12) Oregon/ (16-14/5-13) Cal game.
#12 (22-7/12-6) Washington finished 2nd and will be the #2 seed and will play the winner of (17-13/ 9-9) Stanford (12-18/5-13) Arizona State on the other side of the bracket. (20-10/11-7) UCLA finished 3rd and will play (19-12/9-9) Arizona who finished as the #6 seed.
(18-12/10-8) Oregon State finished as the #4 seed and will play (18-11/9-9) Washington State who draws the #5 seed. The winner will play USC/play in game.
The Beavers and Cougars split the regular season, with each team winning on their home court. OSU beat WSU (81-66) in Corvallis but lost (70-64) in Pullman.
Coach Deuce“WSU is a very good team and have one of the best players in the conference. 6’7 SF Andy Johnsen is a former 5* AA Mr BB (AK) who is very similar to current Golden State Warrior Klay Thompson. This kid can’t shoot the lights out, and anytime you face a player like him you hope to catch him on an off-night”Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN
With conference tournaments beginning, several teams are looking to add to their season's resume in order to move themselves off the bubble list and insure their spot in the Field of 65.
The Arizona Wildcats of the Pac-10 are one of those teams with a current RPI of #44 and a 19-12.
Arizona isn't the only team out west looking get off the bubble. Utah (24-9 #59 RPI) and BYU (21-10, #55 RPI) of the MW Conference and little brother Utah State (23-7, #52 RPI) of the WAC are also on the list.
Montana State finished 2nd in the Big Sky to Northern Colorado (23-4/14-2) going 13-3 in conference play, finishing with a 20-9 Overall record and #77 RPI. However at this point only winning the conference tourney will get them off the bubble and get 2 Big Sky teams in the tournament.
Middle Tennessee (20-8, #32 RPI), Tulane (23-7 #54 RPI), UALR (21-8 #43 RPI), George Mason (26-5 #75 RPI), Memphis (23-8, #69 RPI), Eastern Michigan (22-8, #47 RPI) and Saint Louis (19-10 #66 RPI) are among the Mid-Majors/Majors joining the Bubble list.
Well Notre Dame (19-11, #40 RPI), Miss State (19-12 #31 RPI) and Pittsburgh (17-13 #38) are among the power teams looking to make a move up.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
BEAVERS FALL SHORT IN TITLE BOUT!!!
When Oregon State showed up in La Vegas for their Quarter Final matchup with Washington State, Coach Deuce was just hoping for a good game and hoping that a early exit wouldn't cost them to much in the Selection Committee's eyes. Instead he got the shock of his life.
In Game 1 vs WSU, SR Ridley Sandoval returned from a 3 week injury in a big way. The 6'9 PF would post his career best scoring 31 pts including 4/5 from 3pt well also grabbing 10 rebounds to finish with a double double in the Beavers (82-74 victory).
FR PG R. Spears added 10 pts (2/4 3pt0 and 5 assists in the win well WSU's A. Johnson had 17 pts in the loss.
Game 2 vs USC, is a game that college basketball fans will be talking about for years to come. OSU trailed (39-36) at the half but tied the game on a buzzer beater by Spears to force O.T. (72-72). Then in the Overtime period it was SO PG B. Zeigler who would nail a buzzer beater to force O.T. #2 (85-85).
By the 2nd O.T. USC was running out of players with 3 of their starters on the bench and done for the day, the Beavers took advantage of a depleted bench and outscored the Trojans 18-9 to win the game. Final Score OSU-103 USC-94
3 Beavers ended the game with double-doubles!! F. Sowers had 25 pts 10 reb , R. Sandoval had 14 pts 10 reb and 4 blks and R. Spears had 15 pts and a season/career high 10 assists well hitting 3/3 form 3pt.
As a team OSU shot 11/25 from 3pt and 20-23 from the F.T. line.
USC was 12/34 from 3pt and 22-26 from the F.T. line in the loss. Zeilger led all Trojans with 21 pts (4/11 3pt)
Championship Game vs UCLA
Coming off a double O.T. victory over the regular season champs, OSU was on a all time high, but UCLA brought them back down with a (49-41) 1st half lead.
In the 2nd half OSU would tie the game with 1:12 to play, but with less 32 seconds left on the clock SO PG D. Wiedemann comes up huge for the Bruins with a 3pt to give UCLA the lead (77-73)
Coach Deuce was left with a tough decision. Try and make a quick basket and hope for a steal, or shoot the 3 and try for a quick foul with another chance a a 3pt at the buzzer.
After calling a timout, OSU inbounded the ball at halfcourt. Ingerson got the inbound pass and took a quick 3pt that hit's nothing but net to make it a 1 point game (77-76). The Beavers would fail to steal the inbound on the full court press and instead are forced to foul leaving 18 seconds on the clock. Again Wiedemann comes up big for the Bruins hitting both free throws to make it a 3 point game.
Down to 1 timeout, Coach Deuce opts to inbound and work the ball up court attempting to setup a open look for one of his shooters. UCLA's defense however was ready playing tight, finally with less then 4 seconds to shoot, Sandoval takes the shot to tie the game but the ball rims in and out, as UCLA takes the automatic bid.
FINAL SCORE UCLA-79 OSU-76
Weidemann leads 4 Bruins in double digits with 17 pts (3/6 3pt) SR SG R. Bridgewater finishes with 16 pts 7 reb 6 asts (2/7 3pt).
For OSU, F. Sowers finished with a game high 18 pts and a team high 8 rebs, well C. Gillingham added 17 pts well hitting 2/4 from 3pt.
R. Spears finished with just 2 pts but did manage a team high 9 assists.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
OSU IS GIVEN #7 SEED IN THE SOUTH!!
With 2 wins in the Pac-10 tournament the Beavers finished with 20 wins and the #16 RPI in the nation going into Selection Sunday and for their efforts moved up 1 spot in the previous bracketology.
Instead of playing in #8/#9 match and facing #1 North Carolina in Round 2, the Beavers will face #10 Utah State in Round 1. OSU is very familar with the Aggies having beaten them earlier in the season (80-77) at home.
If the Beavers manage to win then they will most likely face #2 Texas in Round 2 unless #15 Coastal Carolina can pull off the upset.
Before we get to the entire field of 65 teams let's look at some of the big stories that came out of Selection Sunday.
The Big 12 got 7 teams in tying the SEC for the most teams, however 2 noteable team's from each conference won't be dancing. Oklahoma (20-12 #61 RPI) and Florida (18-12 #45 RPI) are both left out and will instead be making a trip to New York for the NIT.
The Sun Belt got 3 teams into the tournament tying the Big Ten who also are only sending 3. Regular season champs UALR (22-8/14-4, #43 RPI) lost to North Texas (20-11/12-6 #90 RPI) in the Conference title game, well Middle Tennessee (20-9/13-5, #32 RPI) grabs one of the At-Large bids coming in as a last 4 in.
One of the big losers here is Wisconsin (21-8/10-8 #68 RPI). Like the Sooners and Gators the Badgers are headed North.
Joining them in the NIT are both Utah and BYU whose bubbles are popped. Add Pittsburgh, Arizona, Saint Louis and Eastern Michigan to that list as well.
Same goes for Montana State who lost to Northern Colorado in the Big Sky Championship game (82-60)
Here is a look at the Field of 65

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
Thanks the USC win was huge, and course the loss to UCLA was disappointing but I feel pretty happy about our seeding. I feel pretty good about my chances against Utah State.
Going into this season with my roster I would've never imagined actually making the tournament let alone being a favorite in Round 1. Texas however will be tough. They are like a 95 Overall and have 4 player who score in double digits. One thing I do have going for me is they are not very big, with only 2 6'9 guy's in the post and a 6'8 guy on their bench.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
Congrats on the tournament bid in year 1. Interesting that you will be facing Utah State again (a team you already faced.) The Beavers have to have confidence in this game because of their current form and having already beaten the Aggies once this year, but it was a close game so hopefully you stay focused and don't get caught looking ahead.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
OSU SURVIVES 2ND HALF COMEBACK
Going into the half with a (46-28) lead is always a good thing when you are playing in a NCAA tournament. Watching your opponent score 12 straight to open the 2nd half is not.
The Beavers however would settle down and stop the bleeding in time, as OSU will move on to the Round of 32 with a (71-66) victory over #10 Utah State in the opening round.
4 players scored in double digits for Coach Deuce, led by SR K. Ingerson (15 pts 3/6 3pt), however POG honors went to Soph C. Gillingham. The 6'5 SF posted a double double of 11 pts and 13 reb hitting 3/3 from downtown well also finishing with a team high 4 assists.
R. Sandoval (11 pts 8 reb) and F. Sowers (10 pts 9 reb) were the others.
For Utah State SR SG D. Cunningham finished with a team high 16 pts and 9 reb but shot just 3/11 from downtown.
UPSET CITY!!
Well OSU survived the 2nd half comeback, other top seeded teams in the tournament were not so lucky.
Out in the East, we saw #11 Tulane defeat #6 Duke (89-44) and #14 Davidson defeated #3 Villanova (84-75). . This will insure that at least one of these teams is moving on to a Sweet 16.
Out West, #12 Memphis on2 of the last 4 in, defeats #5 Boston College (75-55), well #13 Bucknell defeats #4 Clemson (63-62) and #10 Notre Dame (another last 4 in) beats #7 Saint Joseph's (77-70)
However the biggest story of the day was the defending champs #2 Kentucky losing to #15 UC Irvine (72-61)
In the South, #12 Tennessee moves on after beating #5 Providence (86-79) and #11 UALR beats #6 San Diego State (90-78)
The Midwest came and went without any upsets as #8 Fordham defeats #9 Northern Colorado (104-81) ending the Bears season. (Guess the Bears team wasn't better this year after all).Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
TEXAS ENDS BEAVERS SEASON
Looking across at #2 Texas and a roster full of 5* All-American's, Coach Deuce and his Oregon State Beavers felt a little like David taking on Goliath.
Coach Deuce"It's weird, even though we play in a power conference like the Pac-10 and face top quality opponents all year, just looking at their roster of 7 former Mr BB's gave us the full effect of being a underdog"
Texas was led by their backcourt of SR PG T. Strawberry (15 pts 5 reb 5 ast), SR SG C. Capcorn (11 pts 7 reb 4 ast) and JR SG T. Ervin (15 pts).
For Oregon State, FR PG R. Spears finished with just 3 points but did dish out a season high 11 assists.
SR SG K. Ingerson had 11 pts (2/3 3pt) and SR PF R. Sandoval had 10 pts 5 reb in their last games as a Beaver.
SO C. Gillingham (14 pts 9 reb) and JR F. Sowers (19 pts 6 reb) also had solid games in the loss.
Coach Deuce"We played well enough to win the game until the final 2 minutes, but then just couldn't make a basket. It's always sad to see a season come to a end, but I am already excited for the next chapter. We lose 2 great players in Ingerson and Sandoval, but we return 3 starters next season plus all 5 of our bench players plus have 3 very solid recruits coming in. I believe Spears is also poised for a breakout year next season"FINAL SCORE #2 TEXAS-86 OSU-78Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
LONGHORNS ROLL TIDE FOR TITLE!!
The monkey is finally off Coach Rick Barnes back, as he gets Texas their first ever National Title on the hardwood.
Seeing Texas vs Alabama in a Championship game, most would think it was football.
After defeating OSU, Texas went on to crush #11 UALR's dreams (90-58) to move to the Elite 8, where they took care of business vs #9 Western Michigan, who day's earlier defeated #1 Oklahoma State in the Round of 32.
Texas then went on to defeat #2 LSU (95-73) before beating Alabama in the title game (92-82).
For #7 Alabama it was a sad ending to a great run. They took out #2 Kansas (82-81) in the Round of 32, and then crushed Tulane's dreams (98-90) in the Sweet 16, before knocking out #1 UConn (80-79) in the Elite 8. They then continued their #1 beat downs with a (90-71) win over #1 Indiana in the Final 4.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
END OF THE YEAR REPORT
With a victory in the Opening round of the NCAA tournament, Oregon State finishes the year 21-12 making it 5 straight years Coach Dezaron has finished with 20 or more wins. "The Deuce" is now 142-52 in just 6 years as a HC, leaving many to wonder just how many "W's" this 31 yr old will have by the time he retires.
Coach Deuce"We my dad finished his career with over 900, so my hope is I can somehow manage to push Coach K for his record and hit 1000."SPEARS NAMED NCAA ALL-AMERICAN!!
When 5* AA Mr BB Ridley Spears signed with OSU, everyone hoped he would follow in the footsteps of former Beaver Gary "The Glove" Payton and become one of the nation's best.
Well his Freshman #'s don't jump out and say that, they were worthy of making the NCAA All-American Freshman team. Spears finished the season averaging 8.8 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 4.3 APG, 1.1 SPG well shooting 37% from 3PT (46/124).
Spears was also named the Pac-10 FOY and made the Pac-10 Freshman All-Conference.
SOWERS NAMED TO PAC-10 2ND TEAM!!
JR PF Fabien Powers came into the season with a career average of 1.8 PPG in 62 games played.
He finished the year averaging a team best 13.8 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 1.4 SPG and 1.6 BPG starting all 33 games.
BEAVERS ADD 3!!
Coach Deuce landed 3 commitments in Week 1 of the off-season recruiting season and finished the season with the #27 best class in the nation.
4* 6'9 Robbie Conroy out of Indianapolis Indiana (#27 Overall/#2 SF) headlines the class. This past summer in the ABL, Conroy averaged 11.1 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.3 SPG well shooting 48% from 3PT (15/31)
Well Conroy might be the highest rated, he is not the biggest and isn't even a lock to start next season. 3* Center Wallace Ray out of Mission Veijo CA comes in as a true 7'0. Rated #122 Overall and the #5 C in the class, Ray is a lock to start next season in the post, with SR F. Powers moving to his natural PF spot. He is coming off a ABL season in which he averaged 12.4 PPG, 6.4 RPG and 2.4 BPG.
Rounding out the class is 4* JC transfer Eugene Taft. Taft is a 6'5 SG out of San Francisco CA, who is projected to join the starting rotation taking the place of Ingerson.
Coach Deuce"I feel really good about this class. Conroy and Gillingham will have a tough battle this summer as we try and figure out who will start at SF, but I really feel with Powers at PF and Ray at C with Taft and Spears in the backcourt we will have a solid 6 that can match up with anyone in the conference and the nation."Comment
