    One More For Kobe

Well everyone, I had a Jazz franchise going, but ever since they changed the ratings I had to start a new franchise.

I wanted to do one with the Lakers. I have always hated Kobe with a passion, but now that he is on the downside of the career it has turned into respect and I wanted to play one more season with him, and then try and rebuild this Lakers team.

What I am going to do is start this franchise after simming the first season. I can make no roster moves until the off-season starts. Also, this is a 29 game season. That way I may be able to do a few years.

      Lakes Draft a Slam Dunk

NBA Draft - Los Angeles Lakers Recap
      PickPlayerCollegePosHtWt
      1-2D'Angelo RussellOhio StatePG/SG6'5"180
      1-5Emmanuel MudiayChinaPG/SG6'5"200
      1-25Kristaps PorzingisLatviaPF/C7'0"220
      2-24Alan WilliamsUC Santa BarbaraPF/C6'8"264

Pardon our pun at the outset, but the Lakes finally had a draft worth getting excited about. The Lakers made most of their position of having two first round picks and made some moves to get even more talent. The recap is below:

Round 1, Pick 2: D'Angelo Russell, PG/SG: The Lakers had a hard time choosing here as they had to decide between sharpshooting Russell, big man Karl Anothony Towns or point guard Emmanuel Mudiay. They ultimately went with Russell as they saw star potential in him. While Towns may have been the safer pick, Russell is more likely to be able to fill Kobe's shoes in the future. Russell may be the future of the Lakers and the next great two guard. There's no way to complain about this pick.

Round 1, Pick 5: Emmanuel Mudiay, PG/SG: This is what made the Lakers' future look even brighter that it already was after the Russell pick. The Lakers' GM even was caught off guard with the trade offer. The Denver Nuggets had the fifth pick in the draft, and apparently their top options were already taken because they gave the Lakers' a call. Denver offered up their first round pick as long as the Lakers would give up their unprotected first pick next year and take on the contract of declining Jameer Nelson. The Lakers were more than happy to oblige. Not only did they lock in a possible top backcourt of the future, but they got an NBA veteran to mentor them in Nelson. It would be hard to imagine the draft could get much better for the Lakers.

Round 1, Pick 25: Kristaps Porzingis, PF/C: Porzingis slipped right into the Lakers' lap, and they weren't going to complain. Some felt he was a top ten prospect, and the Lakers got him for cheap. His ability to spread the floor and surprising athleticism for a big man will be a welcome addition to the Lakers.

Round 2, Pick 24: Alan Williams, PF/C: Not a very flashy pick, but in Williams the Lakers got a rebounder for cheap. He's undersized, but has a lot of strength and knows how to use his body to get in position.

Get hyped for your future Lakers fans, it looks bright.

        Lakers Free Agency a Disappointment

After all the draft hype, the Lakers had one more goal, to find Kobe a star to play next to. Unless you consider Omer Asik a star, you'll be disappointed. The Lakers tried to make an offer to Kevin Love and Brook Lopez but both wanted more than the Lakers had to give. Greg Monroe considered an offer of theirs but decided instead to re-sign with the Pistons. The Lakers got Enes Kanter to agree to a contract, but the Thunder ended up matching it. This led the Lakers to end up signing Asik since they needed a starting center. They were also re-sign Johnson. Maybe they will end up working a trade, but the Lakers whiffed big time on free agency.

        Big Faces in New Places

LeBron James to the Memphis Grizzlies: It's clear that LeBron wants to be the league villain now. After getting the hopes up of Cleveland, LeBron bounces after one year. The team he will join, however is stacked. The Grizz just signed Marc Gasol to a four year deal as well. Thus they will have a lineup that has LeBron James, Marc Gasol, Mike Conley and Zach Randolph. If that team does not win an NBA Finals, I don't know who will.

Paul Millsap to the New York Knicks: This was deemed a pretty big win for the Knicks. Carmelo Anthony needed to be paired up with someone else to have a chance at success. Paul Millsap might just be that guy. He's extremely versatile and should have no issues playing second fiddle to Anthony.

Brook Lopez to the Atlanta Hawks: A front court of Al Horford and Brook Lopez? That is so much talent and offensive game packed together it's scary. Take that along with Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver and the Hawks should be contenders again this year.

Kevin Love to the Boston Celtics: The Celtics had a lot of young talent in the likes of Isaiah Thomas, Jared Sullinger, Avery Bradley and Marcus Smart, but they had no real go to player. The Celtics got that man in Kevin Love who could end up leading this team to the playoffs.
