    GoodBye Prokhorov, Hello Brooklyn...2K15

    INTRODUCTION

My name is Alex Montana and I am 33 years old. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, a die hard fan of New York sports. I even named my daughter Brooklyn (spelled Brooklynn), I had to fight for that name…..I won.
My favorite player growing up is and was Jason Kidd. And with the help of many others of course, it was Kidd that made me fall in love with the Nets, carrying them to the top of the mountain but not quite to the promise land. Ever since then, I had love for the New Jersey Nets.

And with being a Nets fan came ups and downs, promises that were made and broken, an absolute roller coaster. We fast forward to 2012 and before the Nets moved to Brooklyn excitement had been built within Brooklyn and myself. Once the move became official, I was ready for the Nets to take over the basketball scene in New York.

But something inside of me wasn’t confident in the personnel of the organization. The moves that were made were questionable to me. We had an owner that was the richest and it made me think that he wanted to be the George Steinbrenner of basketball but with a whole lot less knowledge of the game and players. All the hoopla with Mr. Shawn Carter partially owning the Nets. It seemed like it was all done for attention with the attempt to take over the city with big names, and I believed that it was not going to work that way. The Nets were over paying while the team was under performing. That’s not what myself as a fan wanted to see.

So I give you a new era of basketball in NY. I will look to rebuild this team and make a place where players want to play, as long as they have heart and the willing to compete, they can play in Brooklyn…..

What I’ll be doing here is I’ll be simming the first season. I will recap the first season as we head towards the draft, free agency etc….
During the first season of simming, I will be attempting to better the team along the way, maybe a trade or two for players or picks….God knows this team is hurting for picks.

This will be on 2K15. I will play most of the games. Expect this franchise to be slow, but it will progress…LIFE tends to get in my way from posting on these boards but bear with me.

I’m open to suggestions, ideas, criticism, whatever, I’m open to all of it. I’m far from creative but I will do my best to keep this “LIVE”…….

    NBA RUMORS-NEWS LOGO.png

    August 2015,

First reported by NBA TV today, what appeared to be a rumor is now official, as controversy has once again followed Mikhail Prokhorov, he has stepped down as owner of the Brooklyn Nets and sold them to the highest bidder Trent O’Brien (NBA 2K Owner of the Nets).

It is unclear of why exactly Prokhorov has sold the team, many are saying he was involved in a scandal back in Russia, others say he is going back to Russia to run for President once again.

As the Brooklyn Nets attempt to move forward, Trent O’Brien will now be the new owner of the Nets. Look for a front office with new faces. We should hear an announcement soon…..

      Re: GoodBye Prokhorov, Hello Brooklyn...2K15

As Nets fans were left in shock by the news that Mikhail Prokhorov has sold the team to new owner Trent O’Brien, the fans and the team itself must find a way to move forward. As we saw the NBA draft come and go last month, one must wonder who will be running the front office with only a couple of months left until the start of the 2015-2016 season.

The Nets and owner Trent O’Brien held a press conference today to introduce the new GM of the Brooklyn Nets, Alex Montana.

Reporter: Alex, I must ask, this is probably an exciting time for you, to be introduced as the new GM of the Brooklyn Nets, but there must be pressure with such short time and the NBA draft over with, to take control of a team to make competitive with less than 3 months away until the new season.

Alex: Well, this is an honor to be the general manager of the Brooklyn Nets. I feel some type of comfort zone here as this is my backyard. Knowing the history of the Nets, this is quite emotional. But I also understand this in a business perspective. Will it be easy? Probably not. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t accomplish something here in Brooklyn and New York as a whole. This is a marathon and we will work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to reach the ultimate goal.

Reporter: Alex, you mention the word business. Can you elaborate?

Alex: When I say business, I mean it in an operations way as well as the game of basketball itself. The Nets organization hasn’t won an NBA championship. We have contracts that we need to re-evaluate. We have a luxury tax that is not so luxurious and we are in a bit of hole, backs to the wall if you will.

Both go hand in hand. If our operations and numbers aren’t there then we are not flexible on the basketball side of things. If we don’t have the right personnel, whether it be coaches or players, than we are not going to generate anything as far as business goes. I want us to be relevant once again and my job will be to make us relevant and the talk of the league.

Reporter: Do you more or less have an idea where you’ll be starting first, as far as moves go and such?

Alex: I do, I really do, but I choose to keep that internal. Mr. O’Brien and myself have discussed a little bit of it, we plan on getting deeper into as we move forward.

I appreciate the time and the questions.

      2015 Season Goals:
1)Win at least 20 home games
2)Get roster into the Top 15 of the league
      3)Trade for a 1st Rd pick
4)Trade either Mirza Teletovic or Thaddeus Young

Trent: Alex, I've got some goals set out for you. I want you to look them over, tell me what you think.

Alex: To get a Top 15 roster will be no easy task, and trading Young ot Teletovic might not be the answer to get there. There are other contracts out there, that are impeding us from moving forward. It might be time to blow this thing up.

Let me work on getting us a first round pick for next year's draft.

Three big contracts on this roster to start the 2014-2015 season, two of which I desperately need to get rid of. Which two? D-Will and Joe Johnson. Both 30 and over right now. God how I disagreed with these two moves when they happened. The task won't be easy. Not sure any team would take on either contract, I know if I was an opposing team, I would not.

Brook Lopez will be my center piece, literally and figuratively.

      2014-2015 Season Notes

I made two trades. Both were needed and unloaded big contracts:

      DWILL TRADE W PISTONS.jpg

      JOE JOHNSON TRADE W 76ERS.jpg

We ended up finishing 10th (33-49) in the eastern conference. We battled early, fought for the 8 spot, but too many losing streaks of 5 games or more.

        Re: GoodBye Prokhorov, Hello Brooklyn...2K15

With Joe Johnson and Deron Williams shipped out of Brooklyn, our first priority was to re-sign Brook Lopez. It’s clear, that’s who we wanted to be the franchise player. At 27 years old, the Nets envisioned him in Brooklyn for the long run.

Brook Lopez and his agent decided to decline the option Lopez had and test free agency. This spelled trouble for the Nets who were most likely to lose out on Lopez……luckily money was freed up by trading Johnson and Williams……but would Lopez decide to keep his talents in Brooklyn????

Rumor had it Brook Lopez was looking for a 5-year/$82.46M dollar contract….

Before we hit Free Agency, the 2015 NBA Draft was here.....

My goal in the draft was to have a backup plan in case Brook Lopez decided to walk and draft a PG.....We had the 18th and 23rd picks in the first round.

As you can see we ended up having back to back picks in the first round. The Chicago Bulls and GM Austin Newsome came calling when it was their turn to pick 17th in the first round.........They asked for Jarrett Jack, who still had 1-yr/6.3M left on his contract with us for the 17th pick........We saw this as an opportunity to possibly draft our franchise point guard.

We pulled the trigger on this move and drafted Tyus Jones out of the University of Duke.....Contrary to his lack in size and strength, we felt he would bring his high basketball IQ and great lead guard skills to this team and contribute.

We didn't see Jones as a starter right away, but would be able to lead the second unit as if it were the first unit.

With our second pick, right after Tyus Jones, we felt we could not pass up on Dakari Johnson......from the school of John Calipari, we loved Johnson's wingspan of seven feet with legitimate NBA center size.....we like this pick and we will work closely with his offensive game.......In the hopes that Brook Lopez comes back, Dakari Johnson would not be thrown into the fire so quickly.....

Onto Free Agency, and still the unknown was Brook Lopez. We were playing it aggressive with Lopez……We went back and forth on numbers and years and all we’d get was a consideration.

We had to turn left at some point in fear that he wasn’t going to re-sign with us. Three days into this process, we eyes Goran Dragic. We figured he could come in and run the point for us and be the floor general. He could score as well, so it was a double bonus for us. What impressed us was that he played all 82 games last year with the Miami Heat. We quickly offered Dragic a 3-yr/$28.65M dollar contract and we shook hands on the spot and he later made it official by signing with the Nets. There was a no-trade clause in the contract with a team option.

            NBA 2K15_20160209195015.jpg
            Goran Dragic Career Stats

As the Free Agency days passed some more now into the 7th day, we noticed one name was still out there…..No it wasn’t Lebron James, it was Jimmy Butler. Butler was demanding a 4-yr/$62.17M dollar contract. We went back and forth on the years as we weren’t comfortable with dishing out the 62 million.

We came in agreement to a $51M/4-yr deal. We had convinced Butler this was the deal he was looking for and what he would mean to the Brooklyn Nets………..

Somehow, some way, Jimmy Butler BAILED on us!! His word was not bond and he went and signed with the Phoenix Suns.
The pressure was even more so on for me to re-sign Brook Lopez……..As we approached the 13th and final day of the free agent period, we had already invested too much time into Brook Lopez……..It was time to put the nail in the coffin and step up to the plate.

Lopez had offers from other teams but every time we approached Brook Lopez his demand in money decreased…………We finally agreed on a 3-year/$34.06M dollar deal. We wanted to go longer on the years but as he was hesitant, so were we……..But for now, Lopez was ours!

Here are the rest of the Free Agent Signings…..
