    A New York Shakeup

What's up, this will be my new NBA 2k16 dynasty. I'm using Review's Ps4 roster, it's a good roster I'd recommend for PS4 users. Not sure which sliders I'm going to use I'll be trying some sets as I go before settling on one. This will be a 30 team control dynasty(with me controlling most of the moves) and the team I will be playing as is the Knicks. In my world the Knicks aren't so stuck on the triangle and as a result the team I've assembled is more of a fit for the modern NBA(and my play style) as I try to build around KP. Don't want to say too much more as that will spill the surprises to come. I will sim this current season and kick it off with this offseason. It's a huge offseason that shakes up the NBA big time. Stayed tuned for the 2015-2016 recap.

    Storylines:
Starting in the East Lebron has a huge year, but his teammates struggle causing the Cavs to fall to a three seed. This opened up the top of the East for a big year by Lowry to lead the Raptors to the top seed. The rest of the East played out pretty close to what you’d expect. The Pacers and Hawks and Wizards all had bad years falling out of the playoffs opening up spots for new playoff teams. Maybe the biggest story was the 76ers improving all the way to 35 wins as they start to look like a viable NBA franchise. Melo and the Knicks had a disappointing year despite doubling their win total from last year.
In the west the Warriors have a historic year getting 67 wins behind MVP Curry, The Spurs Thunder, and Clippers followed with strong years. The middle of the west is where surprises happened. The Jazz continued their step forward from last year and went 48-34 claming the 6th seed. Behind a huge year by Lillard the Blazers recovered from LA’s leaving to get a 5 seed. Behind a big rookie year by Towns the Wolves shocked the world by going 46-36. Dwight and Harden drama lead the Rockets to struggle to 42-40 and a 8th seed. Memphis, New Orleans, and Dallas had big time disappointing year as they dropped out of the playoffs. The Lakers put themselves in prime position to win the Ben Simmons sweepstakes.

      Playoff Recap:

The Cavs got stunned in 7 games in the first round by the Hornets ending a horrific year and fueling speculation about Lebron leaving again. The Raptors, Heat, and Bucks all won their series they were favored in easily. Behind the Greek Freek the Bucks stunned both the Raptors and the Heat in 7 games to make unbelievable run to the NBA Finals.
The Big four all had easy first round wins. The Warriors swept through the Clippers in the second round. KD and Russ went off and the Thunder shocked the Spurs by sweeping them in the second round. In a crazy 7 game series the Warriors barely survived the onslaught by KD and Russ and make it to the NBA finals.
In the finals Curry went crazy. In game one he set the tone scoring 57 points and dishing out 12 assists. He averaged 41 points per game and the Warriors scored 120 in all 4 games in a dominating sweep to win back to back titles. Curry became a legend as he got finals mvp to cap off his legendary season.

Massive trade Shakes up the NBA

This trade involved 5 teams and 14 players moving to new locations. It involved 4 all-star players, 4 players who were first rounders in recent draft, and several other starting NBA players. We'll provide the break down first and then get into it:

Cavs trade: Irving Love and Shumpert
Cavs get: Aaron Affalo Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul

Knicks trade: Carmelo Anthony Robin Lopez Jerian Grant and Aaron Affalo
Knicks get: Kyrie Irving, Marcus Smart, CJ Wilcox, and Mike Scott

          Hawks trade: Jeff Teague
Hawks get: Robin Lopez and Iman Shumpert

          Clippers trade: Chris Paul
Clippers get: Brandon Ingram, Jeff Teague, RJ Hunter, Jerian Grant

Celtics trade: Marcus Smart, Brandon Ingram, RJ Hunter
          Celtics get: Kevin Love

With so many parts it is easier to break it down team by team. We will start with the simplest team: the Hawks. They had a down year last year and are ready to give Schroder the PG job. With limited options for free agents wiling to come they fill holes at the SG and C spots with solid players on reasonable contracts.
For the Celtics they have been connected to Love for a long time. They made steps forward last year, but they are still star hunting. They cashed a few of their chips in for Love without losing any of their core guys. Smart and Ingram will hurt, but they have Crowder and Bradley at those spots and options with young guys behind them. They finally get their guy and adding Love to their lineup should move them well up the East.
For the Clippers, this had to hurt. They have a really good team, but have never been able to get over OKC, Golden State, and the Spurs in the west. Chris Paul has been longing for a title and made it known to Clipper management that he was likely to leave next year to go get one. The Clippers decided that it was best to recoup some value, since it was unlikely they could move up the standings in the West. They get Ingram who could be a franchise guy for them at the three, Jeff Teague a very solid PG who will help keep them in the mix in the West, and two first round picks from last year in Grant and Hunter who will play big bench roles and have the upside to turn into more. The Clippers maximized their return, sent Paul where he wanted to go and now will try to build around the frontcourt of Ingram/Griffin/Jordan
For the Knicks it was time to move on from the Melo era. The team has been on a downturn and their plans to build around them were ruined by poor decisions. With KP in the fold it would be more ideal to build around younger guys anyway. Melo liked NY and wasn't set on waiving his NTC, but the chance to play with two of his best friends in Lebron and CP3, get traded with his good friend Affalo and the chance to win a title was too much to turn down. Kyrie Irving comes home to the local area and gives the Knicks the PG they have long needed. He gets out of Lebron's shadow and him and KP have the chance to take over New York. Marcus Smart gives them a good complement to Irving due to his defensive abilities and growing offense. This also opened up the money for the Knicks to pursue further upgrades in free agency. It wasn't Melo's fault, but his time in New York didn't work out, this gives both him and the team positive changes that should help them both.
Finally the Cavs. They had an awful year for them getting a 3 seed and losing to the Hornets in round one. Lebron had a great year and Irving was good, but the team around them let him down. He used this as his power play. He wanted to play with his friends in Melo and CP3 who he believes give him a great chance for a title. The Cavs were able to take advantage of the situations and worked hard to make it work for all parties. They get Melo and Paul and a good fit to be a 4th option in the starting lineup in Affalo. This was enough to make Lebron finally commit to returning to the Cavs on a long term deal. The Cavs have bet on Lebron and his wants. Will it be enough to finally best the Warriors? That remains to be seen, but a happy Lebron, and the new big three should give them a much better chance.
This move started off the free agency period with a bang and should have a major impact on the moves to come and the NBA season next year.

Trade Recapswill have to go through the teams to find out signings)

            Four team Deal:
Suns trade: Brandon Knight Alex Len
Suns get: Nerlens Noel Robert Covington Trey Burke

            76ers trade: Noel Covington
76ers get: Darren Collison, Alec Burks Alex Len

Jazz trade: Collison Alec Burks Trey Burke
            Jazz get: Knight Devin Harris

            Mavs trade: Devin Harris
            Mavs get: Tyson Chandler

Denver trades: Wilson Chandler Jusuf Nokic
Bulls trade: 2017 1st(top 5 protected) Cameron Bairstow Chrisitiano Felicio(waived)

            Spurs trade: Kevin Martin(waived) 2017 1st(lottery protected)
            Memphis trades: Brandon Wright

            Offseason Team by Team BreakDown:

            76ers
            Roster:
            PG: Darren Collison/Kris Dunn/TJ McConnell/Melo Trimble
SG: Alec Burks/Holis Thompson/Wayne Seldon JR
            SF: Eric Gordon/Jerami Grant/
            PF: Joel Embiid/Rashard Holmes/Carlos Boozer
            C: Okafor/Alex Len

A huge rookie year by Okafor helped to get the 76ers up to 35 wins. The addition of Jerry Colangelo to the front office combined with the success made the 76ers decide to accelerate their rebuild. They dealt their 2017 1st(top 5 protected) to move from 6 to 12 to finally get their PG of the future in Dunn. They took advantage of their huge capspace and gave Eric Gordon a 1 year 15 million dollar deal with a player option. Gordon is looking to have a big year and cash in next year when the cap further increases. With Okafor’s huge year and Embiid finally ready to play Noel was expendable. They used him and Covington to acquire Collison(solid starter takes early pressure off Dunn) and they shured up their weak backcourt by adding Burks(a more dynamic scorer than Covington(who is locked into a very nice contract). They also got a disappointing Alex Len who still has upside. With veterans and shooters around Okafor, the 76ers rebuild might finally be starting to pay off. The key will be if Embiid can stay healthy and if him and Okafor can gel like Noel couldn’t. If things go right they could sneak into the playoffs

            Bucks:
            PG: Mike Conley/MCW/Tyler Ennis
            SG: Khris Middleton/Ricky Vaughn/Caris Levert/Damion Lee
            SF: Giannis/Dorell Wright/Damien Inglis
            PF: Parker/John Henson/Johnny O’Bryant
            C: Greg Monroe/Miles Plumlee

Coming off an NBA finals appearance the Bucks and Jason Kidd were an ideal location. They decided that despite their miracle run they needed to upgrade on MCW. Playing for a finals team, a PG like Kidd, combined with Memphis’ downyear and desire to move on all lead to Mike Conley stunning the world by joining the Bucks. He gets 2 years 40 mil with a player option for year three for 21.8 million. His presence creates a really good balanced starting five, moves MCW to the bench which helps that unit. They got Wright for his three and D off the bench for 1 year 2.65 mil. They added Levert(1st) and Lee(2nd) for some shooting, but last year’s first Vaughn will get a chance to prove themselves. Bucks should be in the top half of the East and with their experience from last year and the Greek Freek’s continued evolution could make them a threat to get back to the finals.

            Chicago Bulls:
            PG: Rose/Tyler Ulis/Aaron Brooks
            SG: Jimmy Butler/Justin Holiday/Grayson Allen
            SF: WIlson Chandler/Doug Mcdermott/Mike Dunleavy/Jake Layman
            PF: Nikola Mirotic/Bobby Portis/JJ Hickson
            C: Gibson/Jusuf Nurkic

The Bulls got a healthy year from Rose, but it was only enough to finish 5th in the East and lose to the Bucks in round 1. They added Ulis and Allen in the first round to provide insurance for Rose and Butler with an eye toward the future. They also finally got their SF in Wilson Chandler. They also added Nurkic who is a solid young center who was left without a spot due to Denver’s crazy draft. They lost Gasol, but I think this team could get better due to the depth and the young guys getting their chance to improve in the front court. The problem is the East is much better than last year, so they might finish worse despite being a better team.

            Cleveland Cavaliers:
            PG: Chris Paul/Matthew Dellavedova/Fred Vanvleet
            SG: Aaron Affalo/JR Smith(out for first 4-6 weeks)/Rasual Butler
            SF: Lebron/Mike Miller
            PF: Melo/Channing Frye
            C: Thompson/Andray Blatche/Sasha Kaun/Kendrick Perkins

The Cavs had a horrible year getting the 3rd seed, losing to the Hornets in the first round. Lebron made it clear it wasn’t going to work(see article on the big trade for more details). He got his buddies Melo and CP3 to join him as he inked a mega 4 year deal to stay with the Cavs. They did a pretty good job of getting a decent team around the new big three as they lured Blatche back from China, got Delly back on a 3 year deal for 18 mil, and JR on a 2 year 18 million dollar deal. They got Affalo who should thrive as the 5th man in this unit. Rasual Butler also provides wing depth. Lebron buddies Mike Miller and Perkins join the club for the ride and to keep the locker room stable. The Cavs turned a potential Lebron disaster into a better team. Now it is older with a lot of money tied in, but the pieces look to fit and the Cavs looked prime to reclaim the East.

              More Team Offseason Recaps/Season Previews

              Boston Celtics:
              PG: Thomas/Rozier
              SG: Bradley/Turner/james Young/Dejounte Murray
              SF: Jae Crowder/Evan Turner/Waller Prince
              PF: Love/Sullinger/Labissiere
              C: Noah/Olynyk

The Celtics took their step forward going 42-40 under Stevens and finding their way into the playoffs. The Celtics wanted a star and were willing to put their big chip(Nets first) on the table. For the bro-fest to occur with the Cavs, Love needed to be sent somewhere, so the Celtics were a natural match. They Ingram(but love Crowder at his spot). Their backcourt could afford the loses of Smart and Hunter as they had a surplus. They used their draft picks to still put some very talented young guys on the roster. They got Noah on a 1 year 9 million deal to anchor their defense so Love can focus on scoring. They also got 2 wins in convincing Sullinger to take the QO in hopes of cashing in next year and getting Turner back on a 3 year deal for just over 8 mil per. Those two will both get big minutes as 6th men and provide great depth. This team looks like it fits together well and has youth and upside on the roster and still have assets to cash in if the need arises. It looks like Ainge is a winner again as Boston looks great for now and the future.

              LA Clippers:
              PG: Jeff Teague/Jerian Grant/Austin Rivers
              SG: JJ Reddick/RJ Hunter/Wayne Ellington
              SF: Brandon Ingram/Jeff Green/Braden Dawson
              PF: Blake Griffin/Brice Johnson/Brandon Bass
              C: Jordan/Jordan Hill

Chris Paul was approaching free agency and made it known that he wanted a title and didn’t think he could get through the west with the Clippers. They told him they would look around, but would need something big to move him. When Lebron made his powerplay to get his friends together things worked out great for the Clippers. They get a potential franchise guy in Ingram to build around with Blake and Jordan. They got a very good starting PG in Jeff Teague to help keep them relevant. They got two first rounders in Grant and Hunter who look to play big roles. The Clippers got some help for this year by taking advantage of Green’s down year and having him take a 1 year 9 million dollar deal with a player option and getting Jordan Hill and Brandon Bass for depth. They should still be a very good team in the West, but if Ingram develops the future could be much brighter for the Clippers.

              Memphis Grizzlies:
              PG: Jordan Clarkson/Shane Larkin
              SG: Tony Allen/Tyler Johnson/Jordan Adams
              SF:Shabazz Muhammad/James Johnson/PJ Hairston/Niang
              PF:Zbo/Terrance Jones/J. Green
              C: Gasol/Biyombo

After a down year and losing Conley in free agency it looked like Memphis was going to go into a slump in the west. They bounced back with a get younger attitude. They got Jordan Clarkson to replace Conley. They got solid young players looking to prove something in Johnson(2 years 12 mil), Terrance Jones(1 year 4 mil) Biyombo(2 years 14.5 mil), Larkin(2 years 9 mil), and a steal in James Johnson(1 year 2.9 mil). They got younger, deeper and got there guys on good deals. The key will be the health of ZBo and Gasol. If they can stay healthy and the young guys gel they could get back to where they were in the west with more upside, but there is a flameout chance here.

              Atlanta Hawks:
              PG: Schroder/Ramon Sessions/Norris Cole
              SG: Shumpert/Hardaway JR/Lamar Patterson
              SF: Bazemore/Korver/Thabo
              PF: Millsap/Spilltier/Muscala
              C: Robin Lopez/Jakob Poeltl/Walt Tavares

The Hawks struck out in free agency only able to get Bazemore back(3 for 27). After a really bad year they did get a nice pick in Poeltl and a first from Philly for moving down. It was clear that it was time for Schroder to start. They used him as a chip to fill 2 holes in getting Shumpert and Lopez to be starters. Korver should a sharp decline last year(big regression ratings wise). But can still be a shooter off the bench. They have a pretty decent core locked into solid deals, depending on how the East shakes out they could be a 8th seed or the worst case a 9th seed.

              Miami Heat:
              PG: Dragic/Tony Douglas
              SG: Wade/Josh Richardson/OJ Mayo
SF: Winslow/Metta World Peace/ Richard Jefferson
              PF: Bosh/Davis Lee/Mcroberts
              C: Al Jefferson/ Emeka Okafor

The Heat lose Whiteside, but replaced with AL Jefferson eager to prove himself(1 year 14 mil with a PO). That ate most of their cap but were able to add solid veteran pieces on cheap deals to give them decent depth. The Heat got to the East finals, but the young Bucks were too much for them. With them getting older, and the rest of the East improving it doesn't look good, but they are a good team that should be in the playoffs and with Wade and Bosh they are still dangerous.

              Charoltte Hornets:
              PG: Kemba/Lin/Brain Roberts
              SG:Batum/Beasley/Barbosa/Aaron Harrison
              SF: MKG/Lamb
              PF: Kamisnky/Teletovic/Hawes
              C: Pachulia/Nene

After beating the Cavs, but losing in round 2. The Hornets were able to keep their core together. They got Batum to stay for 4 years and 67 million dollars. They got Lin for 2 years 16 mil and Lamb for 3 years 30 mil to spark the bench. Kaminsky takes over as the starting four man and they add Zaza for some defense and toughness. Mirza and Nene also sign forming a formitable bench big man combo. With another year together and some improvements from young guys I expect them to slide further up the East and build on their win over the Cavs.

                Utah Jazz:
                PG: Brandon Knight/Exum/Mack/Fender
                SG: Hood/Devin Harris
                SF: Gordan Hayward/Kelly Oubre/Joe Ingles
                PF: Favors/Marvin Williams
                C: Gobert/Ian Mahinmi/Withey/Pleiss

The Jazz started their offseason by trading Lyles to free up room in the front court in order to get Oubre and their supposed PG in Collison. Oubre will provide 3 and D backing up both forward spots. They got Mahinmi for 2 years 14 mil to back up Gobert. The Jazz then found a big chance to get a major player at PG. They traded Burks(they want Hood playing the 2 anyway) Collison and Burke(opens up minutes for Exum) in order to get a big time young PG in here in Knight. All of a sudden this Jazz team has a great core young starting five coming off a 48 win year with a big PG upgrade and good depth. The Jazz have quietly had a great rebuild and look like they could soar into the top half of the west.

                Sacramento Kings:
                PG: Rondo/Neto/Jose Calderon
                SG: Lance Stephenson/Ben McLemore/Malcolm Brogdon
                SF: Gay/Casspi/Butler
                PF: Cousins/Amir Johnson/Luis Scola
                C: Cauley Stein/Koufos

The Kings took a decent step forward in the West last year, but not enough to be a playoff team. They responded by giving Rondo a huge deal(4 years 85 mil) that they might very well regret. They made a savy trade getting Neto and the 25th pick(Brogdon) for a unhappy Collison. They made solid depth signings in Johnson and Scola. Calderon was bought in due to his reputation as a great locker room guy. They took a gamble on Stephenson for just 1 year 5 mil. They are hoping they can get him under control and have another piece to build around like Rondo. For a team like the Kings despite it being easy to make jokes it is a worth while risk, despite there solid look I still doubt they make the playoffs.

                New York Knicks:
                PG: Kyrie Irving/Mo Williams
                SG: Marcus Smart/Garrett Temple/Sheldon Mccellan
                SF: Evan Fournier/Lance Thomas/CJ Wilcox
                PF: Porzingis/Mike Scott/Domantas Sabonis
                C: Hassan Whiteside/Kyle O’Quinn

It was a disappointing year for the Knicks missing the playoffs again. Melo decided he wanted a title and when his best friend came calling in Lebron he decided to waive his NTC. The Knicks insisted on bringing Kyrie Irving home to New York. They finally had their PG they had been longing for years. Do to further facilitating the deal by also moving Lopez and Grant they were also able to get Marcus Smith to join Irving for a young dynamic backcourt. They also got Mike Scott in the deal who will back up KP and allow the new 4 out offense to work even with KP out of the game. With Lopez gone and the center open the Knick dove into their capspace and gave Whiteside a 4 year 90 million dollar contract. With him playing center next to KP the Knicks will have the best shot blocking in the league and the paint in New York will be tough to score in for the first time since the 90’s. With a hole at the three and in need of more scoring they were able to lure Fournier away from the Magic on a 4 year 48 million dollar contract the Magic elected not to match due to their backcourt logjam. All of a sudden the Knicks have a young core 5 with the oldest at 27 is Whiteside and they have all their future 1sts for the first time in forever. The turnaround is starting. They also bought back Thomas on a 2 year 10 million dollar deal to be a 3 and d guy off the bench. Mo Williams was bought in on a 1 year 5 million dollar deal to provide scoring and shot creation off the bench. Temple was bought in for depth. They traded two future seconds to get get into the second round to take 2 young guys to develop. With these new guys and KP looking ready to step into stardom the Knicks might go from joke to contender very quickly.

                LA Lakers
                PG: Russell/Will Bynum
                SG: DeRozan/Lou Williams/Nick Young
                SF: Ben Simmons/Hedo Turkoglu/Anthony Brown
PF: Pau Gasol/Julius Randle/Larry Nance JR
                C: Al Horford/Damian Jones

With Kobe retiring the Lakers got a huge break in not only keeping their pick, but winning the lottery and getting Ben SImmons to be the heir apparent to the franchise. They used this to power a huge offseason. They lured DeRozan home to LA on a 4 year 108 million dollar contract. They got a new center in Al Horford for 3 years 60 million. They surprised everyone by bringing Pau Gasol back to LA on 1 year 15 million deal. Randle was disappointing last year, but now they hope he can play well getting big minutes off the bench. The Lakers had as good of an offseason than anyone could have dreamed off. They have a good mix of youth and veterans. DO the cap used on the big signings, the depth wasn’t able to be addressed as much. If this lineup can gel they could get back to the playoffs this year and if they add around it and Russell and Simmons develop they could be a contender much sooner than anyone could have dreamed.

                Orlando Magic
                PG: Elfrid Payton/Jamal Murray/CJ Watson/Napier
                SG: Victor Oladipo/Mario Hezonja
                SF: Loul Deng/John Salmons
                PF: Aaron Gordon/Andrew Nicholson
                C: Vucevic/Mozgov/Dedmon

The Magic went into the offseason with dreams of luring big free agents, but failed. They decided to hold onto their capspace and try again next year. They bought in Deng and Mozgov on 1 year deals to redeem their value and to join the rotation but were quiet other than that. Gordon took a big step forward last year and is ready to be the guy at the four. Things to watch are the young guys developing and first round pick Murray pushing Payton at the point. If they can move some young guys along, use others in a big trade and have a ton of cap next year, the Magic could become a threat, but they need to find someone willing to be the star until then their upside is limited.

                  Dallas Mavericks:
                  PG: Deron Williams/JJ Barrea/Seth Curry
                  SG: Matthews/Buddy Hield/Kirk Hinrich
                  SF: Parsons/Brandon Rush/Justin ANderson
                  PF: Dirk/Illyasova/Jeremy Evans
                  C: Tyson Chandler/Dwight Powell/Mcgee

Dallas had a horrific year last year earning a chance to get Buddy Hield in the draft. They got Chandler back on the cheap for a third run with the team. They added more shooters in Rush, Curry, and Illyasova. This could actually be a decent team, but a big upgrade is needed at PG and they don’t really have the chips to get one unless they decide to trade Buddy. Best case is a low seed in the West, but missing the playoffs seems more likely.

                  Brooklyn Nets
                  PG: Ish Smith/Ty Lawson
                  SG: Courtney Lee/Bogdanovic/Dejean-Jones
                  SF: RHJ/Derrick Williams/Karasev
                  PF: Young/Jon Leuer/Mccullough
                  C: Lopez/Cody Zeller

The Nets actually made a pretty good showing in free agency. They got Ish Smith to start at the one for 3 years 28 million. Courtney Lee was also signed for 3 years 37 mil to give the Nets a big backcourt upgrade. They also signed Lawson(1 year 6 mil) /Williams(1 year 6 mil)/Leuer(1 year 5 mil)/Zeller(2 years 16 mil) to give them some youth off the bench who all have something to prove. The Nets made the best of their bad situation. They could compete for a playoff spot with this group, but now the East and the Atlantic Division are tough nuts to crack.

                  Denver Nuggets
                  PG: Mudiay/Nelson/Quarterman
                  SG: Barton/Korkmaz/Harris
                  SF:Jaylen Brown/KJ Mcdaniels
                  PF: Bender/Trey Lyles/Montrezel Harrell
                  C: Jokic/Diamond Stone/Cameron Bairstow

The Nuggets were very aggressive in their rebuild. They used their picks to their advantage drafting Bender Kormaz and Stone. They traded Gallo and Faried in order to get the fifth pick to snag Brown. They made nice trade pickups in Lyles and Mcdaniels. Denver has it’s hopeful future starting five in place, and all very young(besides Barton). They have interesting young guys on the bench. It might take a while but this offseason set Denver in the right direction, but Mudiay looks to be the key. Can he turn into the great PG he could be and help these young guys gel together?

                  Pacers
                  PG: George Hill/Demetruis Jackson/Joseph Young
                  SG: Monta Ellis/Stuckey/Marcus Thorton
                  SF: Geroge/CJ Miles/Glen Robinson
                  PF: Turner/Allen/Robert Carter Jr/Christmas
                  C: Hibbert/Speights

The Pacers shocked the world by missing the playoffs last year, they used the 9th pick to draft Jackson who will have a big bench role right away. Out of options at center, they decided to bring back Hibbert on a 1 year deal and have him play next to Turner. They also added veterans Thoroton and Speights to boast the bench. It is still a solid group for the Pacers and Turner looks ready to bust out, if they play their cards right they could be back in the playoffs.

                  New Orleans Pelicans:
                  PG: Holiday/Canaan/Anthony Barber
                  SG:Evans/Bayless/Troy Daniels
                  SF: Denzel Valentine/Pondexter/Babbit
                  PF: Davis/Ajinca/Cunningham
                  C: Larry Sanders/Asik/AJ Hammons

Pelicans focused on trying to make AD’s life easier. They took a shot on Sanders to be the rim protecter next to Davis as he tries to come back to the NBA on a 1 year 6 million dollar deal. They bought Bayless(2 years 15 mil) and Canaan(2 years 16 mil) to be scorers/playmakers off the bench and to provide insurance for the often injuried starting backcourt. Valentine will also help create space for AD. They actually have a pretty solid deep group, but the questions on the backcourt health and the bigs beside AD are pretty big. However I think this could be the year AD finally carries his team up the West.

                  Detriot Pistons:
                  PG: Reggie Jackson/DJ Augustin
                  SG: KCP/Jodie Meeks/Deandre Bembry
                  SF: Harris/Stanley Johnson/Marcus Morris/ Darrun Hilliard III
                  PF: Ryan Anderson/Ivan Rabb
                  C: Andre Drummond/Aron Baynes

Huge years from Jackson and Drummond got the Pistons back to the playoffs last year. SVG finally gets his man in Ryan Anderson to be his ideal stretch four for 3 years 36 mil. Drummond finally got his mega deal limiting the free agents who could sign. They got a steal in Rabb who will help off the bench a lot. I think the Pistons have a chance to step into the top half of the East this year.

                    Raptors:
                    PG: Lowry/Joseph/Delon Wright
                    SG: Ross/Jamal Crawford/Isaia Cordinier/Norman Powell
                    SF: Carroll/Joe Johnson/Caboclo
                    PF: Patterson/Marquese Chriss
                    C:J Val/Amare/nogueira

The Raptors got the one seed, but a disappointing playoff loss was enough to send Demar to LA. Despite this they had a solid offseason. They got Ross to take the QO as he wants to prove himself as the starting SG. They got Chriss at the 10th pick who will look to push Patterson for the PF spot. They added Crawford, JJ, and Amare to provide scoring and experience off the bench. They are hoping the veterans and JJ/Crawford reputations for big shot making can help them finally get over the hump. It looks a little different, but there is no reason the Raptors shouldn’t be back at the top of the East. despite that area being more crowded this year.

                    Houston Rockets:
                    PG: Beverly/Brandon Jennings/Luke Ridnour
                    SG: Harden/Gerald Green
                    SF: Ariza/Cory Brewer/Sam Dekker
                    PF: Markieff Morris/Motiejunas/Darrell Arthur
                    C: Dwight Howard/Capela/

The Rockets were shocked when Dwight Howard returned on a 1 year stating his desire to proof himself both on and off the court and to cash in next year. Will this drive finally be enough for Dwight to live up to his billing. Regardless Houston made some nice moves around Harden and Dwight. They got Brandon Jennings on a 1 year 7 million dollar deal to play the role they wanted Lawson to. Green and Arthur provide some solid depth as well. Coming off a disappointing 42-40 year, Houston is going to try to get itself back up to the mid-top of the west.

                    Spurs:
                    PG: Tony Parker/Patty Mills/Ronnie Price
                    SG: Danny Green/Manu/Jonathan SImmons
                    SF: Kawhi/Kyle Anderson
                    PF” Aldridge/Diaw/Cheick Diallo
                    C: Boban Marjanovic/Brandon Wright/Turaif

The Spurs had an incredible year, but fell short in the postseason. Duncan finally retired. Boban got 3 years 19 million dollars as he will be the new center for the Spurs. They used the contract of Kevin Martin and their first next year(lottery protection) to get Brandon Wright to be an insurance policy and to split time at the center. They also were able to bring back Diaw on a 1 year deal. A second year with LA in the fold should help the Spurs be a top 3 seed once again. The question for them and the rest of the NBA is if anyone can take down the Warriors.

                    Phoenix Suns
                    PG: Eric Bledsoe/Trey Burke/John Lucas
                    SG: Devin Booker/Timothe Luwawu/Archie Goodwin
                    SF: Robert Covington/TJ Warren
                    PF: David West/Henry Ellenson/Deyonta Davis
                    C: Nerlens Noel/Jason Smith

The Suns had a bad year last year. They decided that Bledsoe and Booker was the backcourt combination to build around. They used Knight to get Covington and Noel who are great complements to that backcourt. They also got good insurance for Bledsoe’s injury problems in Burke. They also used their picks well in getting Luwawu and Ellenson who both will be in the rotation. After a year trying to get a title, David West decided he wanted a starting job again and he gets a 1 year 10 million dollar deal to provide a veteran presence to a young starting lineup. Jason Smith will get minutes at center off the bench. I think they get back to the playoffs.

                    OKC Thunder:
                    PG: Westbrook/Payne/Gary Payton III
                    SG: Morrow/E’twaun Moore/Roberson
                    SF: KD/Singler/Huestis
                    PF: Ibaka/Collison
                    C: Kanter/Adams/McGary

KD shocked the world by taking a 1 year deal with a PO to lineup his future with Westbrook. They were so close last year taking the Warriors to a close game 7. KD wants another shot at the Warriors. He gets another year to gun for the West and then at the end of the year him and Westbrook can decide their futures together. Things that should help them get better is Moore adding backcourt depth and a bigger role for Payne who looks ready to break out. Like the Spurs their only question is if they can beat the Warriors

                    Minnesota Twolves:
                    PG: Rubio/Tyus Jones/Jarret Jack
                    SG: Lavine/Gary Neal/Stauskas
                    SF: Wiggins/Rudez
                    PF: Dudley/Dieng/Payne
                    C: Towns/Pekovic/Onuaku

The Twolves got a playoff appearance out of their young core last year. They needed shooting and depth around their core. They got that in signing Neal/Jack/Staukas/Dudley. They should help provide space for Towns and kickouts for Rubio. With these new signings and the continued improvement from the young guys, they should be back to the playoffs. The only question is if they can challenge the top of the West. I don’t think they are quite ready for that yet, but watch out NBA, the Wolves are a threat.

                    Trail Blazers:
                    PG: Lillard/Chalmers/Tony Wroten
                    SG: McCollum/Dion Waiters
                    SF: Crabbe/Aminu/Harkless/Pat Connaughton
                    PF: Ed Davis/Noah Vonieh/Humphries
                    C: Plumlee/Leonard/Cliff Alexander

The Blazers kept their playoff group from last year together. They got Leonard to take the QO and Crabbe on a 3 year 30 million dollar deal. They added Waiters, Chalmers, and Wroten to provide depth and talent behind their dynamic backcourt. This group is looking better than last year and should be able to get their way back into the playoffs.

                    Golden State Warriors:
                    PG: Curry/Livingston/McCallum
                    SG: Thompson/Ian Clark/Randy Foye
                    SF: Barnes/Iggy
                    PF: Green/Zach Auguste
                    C: Bogut/Ezeli/Varejao

The two time defending champs lost Rush and Barbosa, but think Clark can be their shooter off the bench. McCallum and Foye provide some depth. They get Ezeli back on the QO and Varejao for depth. Not too much to say here. The core is in tact for the two time defending champs and are the favorites for a three peat.

                    Washington Wizards:
                    PG: John Wall/Langston Galloway
                    SG: Bradley Beal/Gerald Henderson
                    SF: Gallinari/Porter/Gerald Wallace
                    PF: Faried/Andre Kirilenko/Drew Gooden
                    C: Gortat/Jason Maxiell

The Wizards realize they weren’t getting KD pretty quick. They decided their was no great fit for them at the 5th spot in the draft. They sent the pick to Denver with Oubre in order to get Gallo and Faried to provide massive upgrades at the SF/PF spots. Porter will play a big role being backups at both SF and PF. Galloway, Henderson, and Maxiell were also signed to play rotation roles. Beal got his max deal 5 years for 114 million. This Wizards starting five looks potent and it should be enough to get them back to the playoffs in the East.

Irving Leads Knicks to Opening Night Win

                      buck.jpg

A new ERA of Knicks basketball got started quickly as Irving got a open three in the corner off a Smart-KP pick and roll. Irving scored 8 in the first quarter to lead the Knicks. He bought the Garden to it’s feet by drilling a three two steps inside half court at the buzzer to give the Knicks a 27-20 lead after one. Temple and Scott played well off the bench scoring 5 each. We hold the Bucks to 20 points on 38% despite Whiteside leaving early with 2 fouls. Parker led the Bucks with 7.
The Bucks came out strong in the second quarter. Conley scored 9 and the Greek Freak got a couple of impressive transition buckets to take a 35-32 lead with 6:48 left. We played lockdown defense the rest of the quarter holding them to only 3 points for the rest of the half. Fournier got 10 points as we opened up a 51-37 lead going into the half thanks to holding the Bucks to 38% for the half.
The Bucks bounced back in the third outscoring us 28-21 to cut our lead to 6 going into the fourth. Both teams shot modestly(43% and 42%), but the difference was them going 7-8 from the line. Giannis(6) and Conley(5) led the Bucks. Irving was our only force as he scored 10.
A 8-0 run early in the fourth tied the game at 80. We went back and forth for a while and the game was tied at 88 with 5 mintues left. We closed out the game on a 15-6 run as Irving was dishing and swishing and we played lockdown defense to get the 105-94 win. Irving was the man in the fourth scoring 12 points and dishing out several assists. Whiteside was the main benefactor as he got 8 points on easy dunks thanks to great finds by Irving and Fournier.

Player of the Game: Irving 32 points 7 assists 12-22 FG 4-9 3PT

Recap: Irving carried us to this win as he was a great scorer all game long when we needed him. Despite the early foul trouble Whiteside had a strong debut on 16 points 12 rebounds and 2 blocks on 7-8 shooting. KP struggled shooting(5-17), but still had 16 points 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. He was great on the glass and guarding the paint. Once shots are dropping at his normal rate his lines could be scary. Fournier’s line looks ok, but his plays were timely. He hit big shots when we needed them and he had two beauitful dishes to Whiteside for big dunks in the fourth.Smart only had 2 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists, but played good defense on the Greek Freak, despite being mismatched size wise. Whiteside and KP anchored our defense and we played very good defense on the defending conference champs. Great win to anchor in our new ERA.

Insane Play by Starters Lead Knicks to Win

                        hhy.jpg

Both teams came out red hot as we scored 23 points on 53%. They shot 55%, but got 29 points thanks to 5-6 from three while we only went 1-7. Smart came out looking for his shot and got 9 points. Irving was the distributor scoring 5 and dishing out 7 assists. AD and Holiday(6) lead the Pelicans. Canaan and Bayless both got 5 points off the bench.
The Pelicans struggled from the field in the second(38%), but got 27 points thanks to 11-15 from the line This was enough for them to open up a 13 point lead with 4:36 left in the half. We got red hot and finished on a 20-10 run to cut the lead to 3 at the half. KP had a huge quarter scoring 17 points to go along with 7 rebounds on 7-12 shooting. Irving finished the half with 11 points and 9 assists. Holiday was the offensive force for the Pelicans in the second scoring 13 points and finishing the half with 19 points on 6-13.
We went off in the third quarter scoring 36 points on 59% from the field. We also play good defense holding them to 19 points on 45% from the field to open up a 14 point lead going into the fourth. AD scored 10 early in the quarter and kept it close, but once he came out we responded with our big run to get it up to 14. Fournier led us with 8. Interestingly our bench unit(5 bench guys a unit which usually sees limited time) finished up the quarter on the big 10-2 run that helped us get the lead to 14.
The Pelicans don’t go down easy. Big fourth quarters for AD(10) and Evans(12) led the way as they cut our lead all the way down to three with 6:26 left. Once again we go on a big run to end the quarter and end up with a 117-108 win. Smart and Whiteside both scored 9 down the stretch and made key plays that helped us hold on for the win.

                        Player of the Game: KP 25 points 12 rebounds 4 assists 1 block 10-16 FG 2-3 3PT

Recap; Our starters played insane. They combined for 102 points and shot 40-60 from the field. That is insane. They really click together as a unit. The bench guys are struggling on offense, but they play good defense and mixed in with the starters they know their roles. However the starters aren’t going to be this insane every game and they’ll need some bench scoring. We had trouble guarding AD and Holiday(who we played much better in the second half with Smart on him) and overall want to play better defense, but can’t complain about the 2-0 start.

Knicks Win Third in a Row

                          kk.jpg

We got off to a bad start on offense going just 3-11 as the Rockets opened up a 16-11 lead. We finished the quarter strong on a 17-3 run to close out with a 28-19 lead. Irving(9) and Whiteside(8) were our leaders. Temple hit two threes off the bench, including a buzzer beater from the corner. The key to the quarter was our defense holding them to 19 points on 44% and forcing 5 turnovers.
The Second quarter was similar to the first. They outplayed us for 8 minutes chipping away and finally cutting our lead to 39-35 with 4:24 left in the half. We responded with a 10-0 run to open up a 14 point lead just 2 minutes later. We traded buckets to finish the half with a 14 point lead. Ariza(9) and Morris(8) lead the Rockets. Smart held Harden to 6 points on 3-8, but he did get 5 assists. Whiteside and Irving both had 12 and 6. Despite poor shooting(4-12) KP played well getting 11 points 5 rebounds 2 steals and 3 blocks.
We came out shooting hot in the third and playing great defense and opened up a 23 point lead at one point. Houston went on a run at the end of the quarter and got within 19. Despite out shooting them 53% to 32% we only outscored them 25-20, but it’s enough to open up a 19 point lead into the fourth. KP(7) and Smart(5) led us in the quarter.
We played our bench the entire fourth quarter as it was garbage time. We even got a coulpe of our rookies in for their NBA debuts as we finished off a win and a 3-0 start.

We play well on offense, but noone gets big stats because we don’t play anyone in the fourth. This team is showing a lot early in the year and is coming together quicker than we thought.

Irving, Fournier Lead Knicks over Pistons

                            box.jpg

We had a good offensive quarter lead by 9 from Fournier and 8 from Irving as we got 25 points on 47%. Our defense stayed locked in allowing 13 points on 28% as KCP scored 8 out of their 13.
The Second quarter was a reserve of the first. We struggled only getting 16 points on 7-17 from the field. They got 25 points to cut our lead down to 3 at the half.Fournier hit two more threes to give him 12 points on 4-7 from three in the half. KP added 5 points to finish the half with 11. KCP scored 12 in the second quarter to give him 18 points on 7-11 and 4-6 from three. No other Piston has scored more than 6. He singly handling kept them around.
The Pistons finally got hot on offense as they get 28 points in the third on 52%. Despite only shooting 43% we do manage 26 points to keep a one point lead into the fourth, Kyrie Irving wa s the notable scorer in the quarter with 7. The Pistons got balanced scoring as noone stuck out.
We have an insane fourth quarter on offense scoring 37 points on 15-21 from the field and 5-7 from downtown. That was enough to get us a double digit victory.Harris scored 11 for the Pistons to keep it interesting, but we got the big shots we needed to keep them from getting close. Fournier and Irving each scored 7 and their big shots were key to our victory.

Recap:Irving, KP, and Fournier had big games on offense as the rest of the team struggled a bit. Our defense kept on playing well despite struggles against Harris and KCP. Smart and Whiteside had quiet games on offense, but they played great defense in limiting Jackson and Drummond which was key to our win. 4-0 is a great start as our starting five has been great, but to sustain success we need to get the rest of the team going a bit.

                              magic.jpg

Both team struggled from the field shooting 38% in the first. The young backcourt guys off the bench Murray(8 points) and Hezonja(5 points) sparked the Magic to a 22-18 lead. Fournier was the guy who could score for us with 10 points. KP only had 3 points on 1-5, but had 3 rebounds,3 steals, and 2 blocks.
The shooting was better in the second as we got 20 points on 45% and the Magic got 23 points on 50% to take a 7 point lead into the half. Hezonja(10), Murray(10), and Vucevic(8 points 6 rebounds) had solid halves for the Magic. The only player to score more than 5 for us was Fournier, and he didn’t even score in the second quarter.
Our offense was pitiful in the third quartwe. We scored 17 points on 6-20 from the field, 1-7 from three, and 4-9 from the line. Despite shooting 53% the Magic only get 19 points thanks to 5 turnovers and 0-4 from the line. The quarter was bad, but we stayed within 9 going to the fourth despite our incompetence.
Our bench unit got extended run early in the fourth quarter and actually cut their lead down to two. They stayed in for that long due to a lack of stoppage and strong play. Mike Scott was the offense for that unit scoring 8 points. The starters came in and slumped and the Magic opened up a 7 point lead with 1:54 left. KP and Whiteside both scored buckets after stops. We got another stop and had the ball down three. KP poped on a Irving screen, got the pass at the free throw line, drove, and kicked it out to a wide open Smart who hit a three to tie the game with 38 seconds left. Oladipo blew by our defense and got a layup at the other end. Irving quickly answered by getting fouled on a drive and hitting two free throws to tie with 24 seconds left. the Magic took the clock down and got it to Vucevic in the post. Whiteside contested him strong, forced the miss at the rim, and got the rebound with 4 seconds left. We got a look for the win, but it wasn’t a good look and as a result we went to OT.
Irving and Payton traded 4 points to start OT. Irving drove and kicked to Smart for a jumper, and hit Whiteside on a layup for a 4 point lead. We got a stop and Irving was fouled and hit two free throws with 12 seconds left. We got the Magic scrambling when they had the ball. Payton threw up a desperation three and hti it with 4 seconds left to cut out lead to one. Recap: We finally cooled off on offense as most of the time struggled. We played great defense to hang around and hit some timely shots to get to OT. Once we got to OT Irving took over and willed us to a win. It wasn’t easy, but we found a way to win. Mike Scott scored 13 in 19 minutes and provided a huge spark. On the negative Whiteside went a woeful 1-10 from the line which is unacceptable and almost cost us a game.
