"Welcome to the 2018-19 season season opener edition of The Jump! I am your host Rachel Nichols. I'm joined by future Hall of Famers Tracy McGrady, and the Jump welcomes to the desk, Vince Carter!

RN: "The 2018-19 season is underway and through the first few games, teams seem to be staking their flag at the top and other have found struggles early on finding traction. What teams have surprised you two early on? Let's start with Vince!"

VC: "While the season is still young, and it's alot more basketball to be played, I've certainly been taken by surprise by the fast start of the Indiana Pacers. The addition of Isiah Thomas has shown wonders and has meshed right with Nate McMillan's style and IT is finally healthy and it's showing in his attitude on the court. They are looking like they could possibly pinch Cleveland down the road in the playoffs!"

TM: "Damn, Vince just a pinch? I like the way Indiana has been playing inspired and on another level, don't get me wrong, has been great. But the San Antonio Spurs are sitting at the top of the Western Conference without Kawhi Leonard. Pop is truly a revolutionary of this game and he can put a cherry on the top of everything and make it work this shows it. Can he hold it all season, we will see!"

RN: "Both franchises exceeded early expectations this season, and some franchises we expected to soar have started off a tad slow. Tracy who is your early disappointment and hope they get it together?"

TM: "I'm looking directly at the Utah Jazz, yes injuries to Ricky Rubio, Thabo Sefolosha, Rudy Gobert and Dante Exum is a worthy excuse, their first two games with those guys looked bad the team actually looks more in rhythm without their locker room leaders. Hopefully in the coming weeks, when these guys start getting healthy the chemistry will come."

VC: "I've gotta point my finger right at the defending world champion, Houston Rockets. These dudes have played like they are still on the yacht out on Puerto Rico celebrating. They aren't running, they often looked gassed and out of shape, the effort isn't there. James Harden looks like the only guy who comes to work, the others in that locker room just look complacent. This is where James Harden's work as a leader comes in to play, he's gotta get these guys re-motivated. Obviously the honor of defending a title isn't enough, and being a multi million dollar athlete isn't either. James can lead the team in scoring, but 1-5 as the defending champs is not a good look. Period!"

RN: "As the season is still early, what teams do you feel could make a push and be a strong playoff contender if all the pieces fall correctly? VC you take the Eastern Conference and TMac you take the Western Conference!"

VC: "Those three teams in the Atlantic all seem like they are capable to play stable playoff basketball with Philadelphia, Toronto and Boston even though Boston has a ton of injuries early but they'll snap back into it with that culture in that locker room. I'm also a competitor and I love a competitive division and that Southeast division while the records look bad compared to the guys at the top, somebody's gotta win it. Atlanta looks like a new team in a few matchups, Doncic and Aaron Gordon have pumped some magic into Orlando, and John Wall looks motivated and healthy. Its going to be an interesting race going into the new year."

TM: "While the Spurs and Golden State sit as the cream of the crop of the Western Conference, that Southwest division has gotten competitive, I watched the Mavs play great basketball they are gonna shock some teams. Marvin Bagley III is a man in a man's world and is showing ridiculous potential and just down right dominating bigs in this league. Somebody get AD some help cause he needs it bad. Houston, wake up I think you have a problem!! Lakers are finding their rhythm, Suns are playing a different kind of basketball and that fanbase are in LOVE with DeAndre Ayton. The Northwest is looking like the aforementioned Southeast division out East. A downright just competitive division, Dare I say that Minnesota looks better without Jimmy Butler, less confusion creates chemistry. Denver looks great, OKC is hitting their stride as well as Portland. It's going to be interesting to watch the race for this division as we flip the calendar. "

RN: "Well as we looked at the possibles, what about what the fans call the staples in the playoff picture?"

TM: "Do we really have to talk about Cleveland and refitting their roster coming off of one of the greatest off seasons in league history? If injuries don't get in the way, this team is the NBA Champions hands down! It's only 6 games in but come on, once this team hits their strides and the chemistry continues to build, they are gonna put teams out of games in the 3rd quarter its gonna be that easy. Come February, they are gonna be putting teams out of the building by 30! Just ridiculous!"

VC: "I'm not a fan of what Cleveland was able to do in the offseason, and it's been proven that stars have a hard time playing next to a ball dominant LeBron James. I think in time once Kerr and his team gets Jordan Bell accustomed to being a full time starter he will be better than Draymond Green and they'll be able to knock off Cleveland. Injuries have been the Dubs greatest weakness, but I think they are the team to beat out West come the end of the season once the team is accustomed to running the floor together."

RN: "I'm shocked of no mentioned of the Rockets! Is the Championship hangover really that bad, TMac before we get out of here?"

TM: "It looks bad and right now it's still recoverable but who knows what state this team will look like post all-star break. I'm hoping they wake up and make it more of a thicker race to the NBA Championship!"

Well that's been another edition of The Jump! I'm Rachel Nichols, with Tracy McGrady! We at the Jump want to thank Vince Carter for stopping through and we will be inviting him back. On behalf of Paul Pierce, we thank you for tuning in for The Jump!"

Durant on teams performance vs. Pacers: "See when we lose, y'all be in here asking is this the start of the downfall of the Warriors but when we win y'all quiet then? Tonight the balls rolled our way. Could we have played better, absolutely. We are good enough to crown teams just the way ya'll in the media be crowning Cleveland. When we play well and are finding teammates and hitting our shots, we are the team to beat!"

Bulls president, Michael Reinsdorf introducing Richard Monroe as GM, comments on John Paxson: "Richard Monroe has been a valued part of this organization for a few year now and his knowledge of what it takes to put together the best team possible is invaluable. Richard has an aggressive personality when it comes to the job, and his aggressiveness and blue collar grit will be sure to captivate Bulls fans. Also, despite the rumors being tossed around the media, there is absolutely no truth to John Paxson being removed from his position as VP of Basketball Operations this season. Paxson as well as other members of the staff will be evaluated at seasons end, I assure you!"

Damian Lillard shouting match with Joel Embiid: "Joel is a hell of a player no doubt, and a hell of a trash talker, but has skin as thin as tissue paper, I guess he saw the scoreboard and realized me and CJ was taking his team to school and he wanted to get personal. So I got in his face and checked him. I don't care if u 7 foot or 4 feet tall, you ain't gonna jaw off and not here something back. This was a statement game for us...I damn sure can't wait to play Philly again!"

Hawks head coach, Mike Budenholzer on team motivation: "Hell of a win tonight from our team. Playing inspired and motivated is a big thing. Dennis Schroder played motivated and heated. He is obviously upset about somethings going down in Atlanta as well as fanfare from the Atlanta faithful and he played with angry passion and that's why he was unstoppable tonight, on the other side we got guys half assing it up and down the court, and its noticeable, lack of inspiration and effort will get u benched. One thing is for sure, I'm fighting for wins and I'm playing guys who are striving and fighting for wins as well. 110% at all times."

Kawhi Leonard on the teams victory and his calf injury: "Great team win for sure, everybody got a piece of the pie and that's what gets you to 7 straight victories. As far as the injury goes, I pulled my calf muscle on a simple roll to the basket, launched off of it pretty hard and I felt it lock up on me as soon as I came down. Doc said stay off of it for a few days and we take it a day at a time and see how it goes."

                          November 6th, 2018

Donovan Mitchell on getting closer to Jabari Parker: "Things take time to mesh, the last few days have been crazy with guys going down like flies. Me and Jabari just sat down and said bro this team is going to sink or swim and its gotta be on us. So we've done more working out together, getting up shots together, just meshing our game. So tonight against Orlando it showed, I feed him he gets me open looks. We both eat, the team wins! I'm all for it!"

Raptors head coach, DReece Williams on teams recent performance: "Alot of guys had their nose turned up at me when I walked through the door, no NBA experience, my nose just as wet as a 19 year old rookie walking into the league. I just had to establish a level of trust with these guys and relate...now they are buying into to what I'm selling and its working. Sat down with the leaders of this team DeMar, Kyle and ZBo and we established a strong bond and it showed against Dallas, phenomenal defensive effort and the guys are having fun!"

Stephen A. Smith on rumors out of New York: "From my sources out of New York after their loss to Portland, Draymond Green and head coach, Mark Jackson had an altercation. Draymond was heard saying, "It's only so much I can do. Its impossible to turn sh*t into sugar when these guys are lost and don't know what the hell they are doing on the floor!" At one point, someone said they heard a loud boom of a chair hitting a wall in Mark Jackson's office. Simply put, Draymond needs to get his attitude in check asap or he's going to be blacklisted as untouchable in the NBA. Once that happens not even LeBron James can save you!"

D'Angelo Russell on his 1st career triple double: "Man the stats don't mean nothing, I'm a winner, I want to win. I'm glad we got the W. Jahlil and Crabbe came to me tryna celebrate that milestone. I kinda shrug it off like man we still 2-5...let's turn that record around and then we can preach about personal accolades!"

Marvin Bagley III on sitting out time for ankle injury: "Downtime eats at you. I wanna play, I wanna tape it up and play. These next few days gonna suck. I'm gonna be pissed and continue to work to get better when I can't see the court."

Julius Randle on outplaying fellow Kentucky alum, Anthony Davis: "*laughs* Coach Cal was courtside and I had to show out for coach one time. AD wasn't happy with me tryna put him on a poster, called me a show off, I just laughed it off. Coach Budenholzer been in my a*s all week about wanting to see more from me! Aye coach was that good enough!"

James Harden on 49 point triple double: "I just got tired of the media throwing us under the bus, saying we still hungover from the championship. I ain't striving for mediocre! I want to repeat. If I gotta do it alone then so be it! Time to look forward instead of dwelling on the past!"

Steph Curry on game winner vs. Clippers: "Wasn't a gameplan to it really, Louis Will and Colin Sexton doubled me up! I just had the ball the clock was ticking and I put it up! It just went in! We win! That's it that's all!"
