Durant Dominates Struggling Warriors in Return to Oracle

Kevin Durant scored 35 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in his return to Oracle Arena.

Oakland, CA -- After five seasons of dominating the NBA, in which the Warriors won four championships and made the Finals five straight seasons, the Warriors are having a difficult time adjusting to life after Kevin Durant. In a return to their original Big Three of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, factors outside of losing Kevin Durant have played a role in the Warriors 6-7 start to the season. Injuries and a short, older bench have also been a part of the struggle.

And when Kevin Durant returned to Oracle last night, the new headliner for the now 10-2 76ers, things did not get better. Durant scored 30 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out 4 assists as the 76ers defeated the Warriors 121-108. Ben Simmons recorded a triple-double with 22 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds for the Sixers. Stephen Curry scored 27 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and had 5 assists in the loss.

"Once I got out there and got past the initial anxiousness, it was just a matter of playin' ball again," Durant said of his return. Both the 76ers and Durant struggled in the first half. A half in which the Warriors outscored the 76ers 61-50. However, the 76ers flipped the script and won the second half 71-47. Durant, who scored just 8 points on 2/9 shooting in the first half, finished strong, scoring 27 points of his 35 points in the second half on 8-for-11 shooting.

Knicks Take Narrowly Escape Injury Depleted Raptors

New York, NY (AP) -- The resilient Raptors (7-5) nearly pulled off another win without their two star players. Without a healthy point-guard on the roster, the Raptors are relying on a combination of glue, tape, and Wesley Matthews and Marshon Brooks to run the offense. Kawhi Leonard broke his left ankle during the Raptors third game of the season, an injury that hung a dark cloud over the Raptors season as it was announced he would be out 6-8 weeks. However, in his absence, the Raptors are 5-4. Kyle Lowry injured his left ankle in 101-85 loss at Oklahoma City on November 9th. In all, the Raptors came into Sunday's game at the Knicks with a 2-1 record in games played without either of their stars.

However, the Knicks managed to hold-off the plucky Toronto squad in a narrow 122-119 win. Led by Jelani Birch who triple-doubled for the second time in his rookie season, New York overcame a five-point halftime deficit for the win. The Raptors never went away, though, and held a 119-115 lead with 1:18 left remaining in the game before a Knicks rally gave them the come from behind win.

Jelani Birch finished with 32 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 assists while teammate Kristaps Porzingis double-doubled with 23 points and 10 rebounds. On the losing side, Marshon Brooks scored 26 points and Wesley Matthews scored 12 of his 16 points in the 4th quarter as the Raptors nearly pulled off another upset win without Leonard and Lowry.

Well done to Birch on rookie of the month...Few good wins but a long ways to go against the likes of the Warriors, Rockets and even Pacers...

You'll get there eventually, maybe need one more wing guy.

Yeah, hopefully Knox will develop well and become a more than solid third option. I need some help at the other wing spot, though. Tim Hardaway Jr. would be more ideal as a backup wing.

Yeah, he's gotta cutdown on the turnovers, though. No denying his court vision. If he can't cutdown on his turnovers and do a better job of defending opposing PGs, then the Jelani Birch at PG experiment may only be a one-year thing.

Jelani Birch Scores 41 as Knicks Snap Five Game Skid

Jelani Birch scored 41 points to help the Knicks snap a five game losing streak.

New York, NY -- To most, a five game losing streak looks bad. Real bad. However, the New York Knicks weren't panicking because they knew the truth behind the losing streak: tough competition. During their five game skid, the Knicks lost to opponents with a combined record of 81-31. And while some of those losses were ugly, the Knicks still remained calm.

Jelani Birch saved perhaps his best game of the season as the Knicks snapped their losing-streak with a win over the 14-11 Dallas Mavericks. Birch scored a career high (albeit a short career) 41 points on 15-for-23 shooting to go along with 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Birch took control in the fourth quarter, scoring 18 of his 41 points as the Knicks held on for a 116-112 victory.

Five other Knicks scored in double-figures in the win, led by Kristaps Porzingis who scored 14 points and dished out a career high 7 assists. Tim Hardaway Jr. also scored 14 points, including two clutch free-throws with less than 10 seconds remaining to ice the win.

Dallas rookie sensation Zion Williamson scored 21 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and came up with 4 steals in the loss. Dennis Smith Jr. led the Mavericks in scoring with 21 points, 13 of which came in the fourth quarter.
