    Save Private Green - MyNBA 2k22 PS5

    Save Private Green

On July 22nd The New Orleans Pelicans made Willie Green their 8th head coach.

"I know he deserves it... He'll be the most humble, prepared coach you've ever seen in your life." Chris Paul on WIllie Green.

His mission looks like one of the most complex in the NBA.
Green took over from Stan Van Gundy who had less than a year to decide that he would not be the man in Louisiana.

New Orleans is a small market for a NBA team and that small market basically has two years to convince Zion Williamson, aka the mutant, to stay in NOLA and become the Giannis of the South.

Yes similarities between Milwaukee and New Orleans are obvious. And it makes the New Orleans probably one of the most exciting challenge for a myNBA game.

    Game setup

For the gameplay I am using Schnaidt1 sliders (here).

For the league setup I consulted a few slidders proposed mostly here but then i reworked them a bit and based on my experience with 2k21 (see dedicated post here below).

For played games I will use 10 minutes QT with mormalised sim minutes but not normalised stats.

Starting roster is the default 2k roster.

    Franchise state

Roster wise we have two all stars and one being a pure mutant. The team must be organised around Zion and Ingram. I must say I like the last free agency market outcome which resulted in valenciunas and Graham coming to NOLA.

Salary cap there is no much room so we must build with the core veterans and talent in place and of course use our draft capital to develop the right supporting cast for Zion.

Draft capital wise Pelicans are a poor man OKC. They basically own a bunch of picks from two current power houses Lakers and Bucks. But will these two teams still be dominant in 2024 or 2025 ? Not sure...

    The Giannis of the South

Again there is no tanking or rebuild in NOLA because this would not look sexy. So we must do our best to look on the right way to redemption.
One of the main challenge of this Pelicans is to organsie the team to play

Important Note: given the practice schedule glitch i am advancing day by day and adjust training schedule accordingly. A benefit of that glitch, if i could say, is that i adjust my lineup based on fatigue for each single game even if the game is a sim.

I started with real life injuries so Zion will be out until end of November.

Ultimately this franchise is pretty virgin when it comes to success so we need to use Zion to do better.

      Coaching Staff

Willie Green is a rookie head coach with a lot of respects among the league earned as player and assistant coach. He has a 3 years contract and will be our coach for a minimum of two seasons. He will be judged, like me, by his capacity to keep Zion in NOLA and build a success story.

Re: Save Private Green - MyNBA 2k22 PS5

        The players and organisation

Note: I do not pretend to be an expert in basketball, i started playing 2k and being interested in NBA very recently but here is what my understanding is...

        Zion, Zion, Zion

Zion is obsviously our star. Most team do not have a star, especially small market ones, we are very lucky in New Orleans to have Zion and we must mmake the best of him.

The death question: how to maximise the talent of our two all star players

Let's start by analysisng what our mutant Zion can do the best.
        • He is big for a fast and fast for a big.
        • Zion is an exceptional athlete for his size and weight.
        • He is not a perimeter scorer so he need to drive to the hoop where he can use his exceptional skills to finish at the rim.
        • He is excelent in the post BUT with a tendency to move topost up to the rim instead of doing fade away.

        Conclusion
        • Zion should play 35mn a game when healthy.
        • When hs is on the floor the team will work for him most of the time.
        • Call 5 out iso plays when matched by a big defender, and low post plays when matched by an athletic forward.
        • Pick & roll will not be the main option with Zion on the floor even if he can still be a very effective rollman threat to the rim.

Zion will be hunting the rim. So it means rest of the team need to either create plays for him or offer perimeter threat.

Naturally Jonas Valenciunas is a perfect partner for Zion. He is our only big who can strecht. So he will be on the floor every time Zion is on the floor. Core player who can as well offer low post oiffensive threat when Zion is not around.

Brandon Ingram is an all star. He is obviously our small forward and will be on the floor every tme Zion is on the bench to become our main option. He is our best perimter scorer. So will likely try to get him open or use him in pick n roll plays from the wing.

These three players are corner stones for this franchise to move ahead.

        Back court questions

Obviously the backcourt is not as talented as our front court.

I am a fan of Devonte Graham. Now he would be better suited for a 6th man role. He looks like our starter at the point. Good thing is he can clearly score threes. He can as well drive to the rim and his contract is pretty friendly for a starter.

NAW (Neil Alexander Walker) since being drafted 17th overall in 2019 he has been a pretty good player for New Orleans. His 3nD potential make him Zion friendly so valuable.

So behind Devonte and Naw, we have multiple interesting guys.

Josh Hart or Gary Temple can play at #2. Both with decent 3nD value.
Josh hart has an option for next two seasons and some upside for either #2 or #3. Temple is more a #2 and a veteran leader/mentor at this stage.

Tomas Satoransky has a one year contract and a very good size which will be precious for some matchups.

Kira Lewis Jr is a question mark. He is a lottery 1st roudn selection going into his sophomore season. Not much of a playmaker, he could develop some shooting and driving skills. So needs to be developped.

        The depth

Trey Murphy drafted 17th overall is a pretty good prospect because he is an athletic player with very good 3nD (Zion compatible) potential.

Jaxson Hayes is a very valuable big even if in his case he is not much Zion compatible. He offers very good rim protection and I like his potential.

The rest of the roster is pretty much just depth/backup players without much upside for a long term role in the organisation.

          Trading block

As usual: looking to build from our assets and we have a few here...

The only player I would be keen to move is Hernangomez, because hge does not give us much with his lack of strecht and we already have Hayes as rim protector.

I think we could do with an aditional depth as strehct #5. I am thinking as someone like former Wizards Mo Wagner currently playing for the Magic.

          Reggie Perry to Pelicans

In between we have signed free agent Reggie Perry to a 2 way contract. Perry is a former 2nd round selection from Brooklyn. He has a pretty good potential as a PF who eventually could play at C. With Zion absence early in the season we needed an addtional player in that space.

            Playbook

The playbook will be home made with strong inspiration from Pelicans and Pistons books.

Basically we should have two tactical approach.

When Zion is on the floor, we should play a fair amount of 5 out and low post.
When Zion is not on the floor, we will be a more classic offence based on Pick & Roll and trytng to create shots for Ingram.

Overall we try to space the defence (so lots of 5OUT and Horns looks) even if we lack a bit of talent at shooting at the start. That is something we may want to improve.
            • Isolation
              • Iso 5 Out
