Ice Cube and Colin Kaepernick Reveal 'New Look' Big 3
--Los Angeles--
Big 3 founder Ice Cube announced Colin Kaepernick's significant investment into the Big3 early this year, and now the pair have revealed a complete revamp of the 3v3 basketball league. International travel firm, Omega World Travel have purchased a significant stake in the league and the nature of the traveling league is being retooled.
With Omega as a new partner, the Big3 is now targeting vacation and resort towns with a live event model which encourages a 'several day experience' surrounding the game. Players will meet with fans and join in banquet dinners while also running small one-day afternoon and morning camps for kids. The league is targeting, mostly, resort towns and tourist destinations which fit tightly with the vacation package experience.
As for the actual games, the now 11-team Big3 will play twice a week from the end of July through the beginning of September with a caravan style schedule which will play games in a different host city each week. The eleven teams have all been re-branded in the standard city-nickname convention and each of the 11 cities will host two sets of games in a season. Hosting teams will receive a game off in each of the weeks following their hosting week to off-set the odd number of teams. Each team plays every other team twice for a total of 20 games.
The television experience should remain largely the same, with games televised on FS1 and FS2 with the occasional game on FX and FXX. The league is bringing its own broadcast and camera crews. Arenas have not yet been announced, but it's said the league is looking for short term rentals as opposed to longer commitments, so arenas may change from trip to trip. Ice Cube said he would love to see the Big3 play games on blacktops.
Ice Cube and Kaepernick called the partnership with Omega, 'a no-brainer' and claimed to be inspired by the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces and Connecticut Sun who are each owned by events companies. The league has completed an internal leaguewide draft to revamp rosters, all players have agreed to three-year commitments.
League rules remain, largely, the same. The win by two rule has been removed, the score target has been raised to 60. Roster rules have been adjusted upward again, this time to a minimum age of 30. All-existing Big3 players under 30 are grandfathered in, but players without Big3 years-of-service must be a minimum of 30 years old to enter the league.

OOC: I created a league file to run this in BasketballGM. I'm controlling the Norfolk Sunshine but this will mostly just follow the entire league
