        Assistant: wussup every1?

        Reporter: Hi, who are you?

Assistant: I'm Lionel, 30m. I'm an assist at WKU. HBU?

Reporter: Why are you talking like that?

Assistant: Sry, I don't talk much. I mostly send e-mails. I'm not really sure why I'm up here.

Reporter: Coach Tovarich is just avoiding a press conference he feels in unnecessary.

Assistant: No, I get that. I just don't understand why ya'll couldn't just e-mail me your questions and I could e-mail you my answers. I don't talk much in public.

Reporter: OK, so what do you think about drawing UCLA in the tournament?

        Assistant: We're playing UCLA?

        Reporter: Yes?

Assistant: Oh, cool. U should come play Western Kentucky tho.

Reporter: Uh, coach, you don't have to recruit us.

Assistant: Oh, right, sry. That's all I do.

Reporter: So you don't have any opinions about UCLA?

        Assistant: I haven't e-mailed any1 at UCLA.

Reporter: So what do you do during games?

Assistant: I send e-mails from my phone.

Reporter: So what can you tell us about the recruits?

Assistant: I don't know much. I don't talk to the ones we're gonna sign. I just e-mail some other guys, like a plan M if the first ones don't work out.

Reporter: So, what have you been doing since recruiting ended?

Assistant: I just sit at my desk. Then I go sit in the arena during games. I'm basically on vacation.

Reporter: Do you think coach will fire you like he does all his other assistants?

Assistant: Wut? Y? I did good sending all those e-mails.

Tovarich: That was one of the dumber things I've ever had to sit through in my life. I don't even know where to start.

Reporter: Let's start with missing your first 15 3's and being 1/19 in the first half.

          Tovarich: Yeah, amazing.

Reporter: Why do you think they were full court pressing up 30 in the second half?

Tovarich: All part of the script.

Reporter: Do you think it was nerves by the FR?

          Tovarich: No.

Reporter: Do you take anything away from this game?

Tovarich: That it was fixed and I'm glad it's over.

Reporter: You don't think you can learn anything and take it into the offseason and be better for it next year?

          Tovarich: No.

Reporter: Your NCAA tournament game at Maryland-Eastern Shore was similar. Do you think it's just a totally different game because it's in the NCAA tournament?

Tovarich: It shouldn't be. It's still a game of basketball. Some of our regular season games are fixed too.

Reporter: What do you think you could've done differently?

Tovarich: Oh, you're right. I should have started the bench and not shot any 3's because we started 0/15. It makes no difference in these instances. See you all next season.

Thought I fixed this, don't know why it's messed up. Gonzaga won.

Tovarich: Welcome all to the highly unnecessary pre-season press conference. End of speech.

Reporter: Tell us about your recruits coach.

Tovarich: I signed the main 2 guys I was going for after we lost out on the one All-American in-season. We signed:
Marlon Capel #30 PG #110 OVR 3* Tucson, AZ
                          B.B. Shehan #3 C #105 OVR, 3* New York, NY

Reporter: Who did you ruthlessly cut this year?

Tovarich: Very light on the cuts, just W.M. Sikes, a walkon SF. I got a few nice walkons, one very nice that like Petrauskas I can't believe ended up here. But I will redshirt all 3 of them:

                          Najeeb Blankenship (W) SF
                          Donatas Zoellner (W) C
                          Dane Blanchard (W) PF

Reporter: So you're keeping 12 active players and 15 total on the roster?

Tovarich: Yes, yes, incredible I know. There won't be enough minutes to keep everyone happy though.

Reporter: Why not cut some of the 3rd string guys you say you won't have minutes for?

Tovarich: Well, I'm just such a nice guy.

                          Reporter: OK, but really, why?

Tovarich: Magley and Ryan are JR's. If I cut them, I can't use their scholarship until next season, which means I don't get a FR until the following season anyway. The same will happen if I keep them on the roster and let them graduate next year. I'll try to find some mop-up duty for them.

Reporter: So Petrauskas is demoted to the bench after starting last year?

Tovarich: Yes, we rate Shehan just ever so slightly higher and he also has more height, which I hope will equate to some better rebounding. The other 4 starters will be the same. Ryan is listed as the 2nd SG, but Pettigrew will play SG on the B-team and everyone else can be in their natural position.

Reporter: And what about the schedule?

Reporter: Of course, coach. They're important.

Tovarich: Mine aren't. I fired the last two and hired two different ones, both slightly better tape watchers and e-mailers.

Reporter: Thanks, coach. We'll see you after the scrimmage.

Tovarich: You will not. That press conference is canceled and roster finalization day is not happening either as I've finalized the roster already. Everyone take a vacation until the season starts.

Tovarich: Kind of an ugly performance. It's lucky we were playing an overmatched opponent. We looked rusty. They were turnover prone even before we pressed.

Reporter: Speaking of overmatched opponents, why did Sam Houston State come here for the second year in a row?

Tovarich: Yeah, that was a mistake. That was supposed to be at their place. The AD and I goofed on that one.

Reporter: Is it discouraging that you felt like you had to press in the second half against said overmatched team?

Tovarich: A little. It was a bizarre shooting performance until the last 2 minutes. It seemed like we were always up between 4 and 7. If we were up 6 or 7, we never seemed to hit a shot. They almost always hit one. If they were down 4 or 5, they never seemed to hit a shot. Then suddenly we broke it open at the end a little. It's quite discouraging to take 17 extra shots and beat a cupcake by 14 only.

Reporter: What did you see from your FR C?

Tovarich: He seems a little bit better of a rebounder, but we'll see. He's going to get thrown into the fire against a handful of big schools and I'll know much more about his ability after that. He got a few offensive boards and went right back up with them and made some layups, so it felt like a little bit of an improvement, but if it didn't look like one against this team, that would've been discouraging.

Reporter: Other than Riley and Marshall who were beating the press, no one seemed to have a great shooting night, though Shehan made 5 of his 6 layups. Why do you think that was?

Tovarich: Rust, maybe. I don't know. Everyone will need to find the form for Mississippi State, that's for sure. Can't have another performance like that.
