Atlanta, Ga- The Falcons were 1-3 this preseason, showing a dominating defense but a very shaky offense. Larry Porter is a RB guru, but didn't have over 70 yards in any game. The line is among the best in the NFL, but the RB's were not hitting the hole hard enough or eluding anyone. With the loss of Brian Brohm, the shaky QB situation gets worse. Ken Dorsey struggled and only threw 1 touchdown all 4 games, which was the only touchdown through the air for the Falcons. Rookie Joe Flacco was downright awful, throwing 5 interceptions and only completed 27% of his passes. Randy Moss was slowed by a hamstring injury, but came on in the last game, catching 5 passes for 78 yards and 1 touchdown. Early Doucet also played well, having caught 5 passes for 122 yards in their only victory against the Titans, and may be a candidate to start opposite Moss. Back to the struggles, the most telling fact was that in their only win, they touchdown they scored was on an interception by Nnamdi Asomugha. Asomugha, Asante Samuel, Antoine Cason, and Chris Houston combined to pick off 10 passes in the preseason and allowed only 1 passing touchdown to be scored on them. The run defense allowed 3 touchdowns, but was not soft in any sense. They held opponents to 97 rushing yards per game and forced 5 fumbles. Defense looks to be the identity of this team, at least until Brian Brohm returns from injury and they see if he can provide the spark for this team. Until then, it looks to be Dorsey's job as game manager, letting the defense do their job and the running backs play to physical football.
