News out of Charolette reports that former Head Coach of the Carolina Panthers, John Fox, has been fired after missing a team meeting due to being in Mecklinberg county jail under DUI chargers. Being days before the pre-season opener the Panthers hired a no-name coach.

Peppers, Smith to play for Carolina again

After a 2-14 year both WR Steve Smith and DE Julius Peppers wanted to go someplace else. It wasn't suprising seeing as they are among the best at what they do and want a chance for a ring, so at the begining of the offseason both Peppers and Smith demanded to be released and head coach Hardee elected to do so. Now after several sightings of both Smith and Peppers at Carolina Statuim it is reported that they both signed 1 year deals to play. Smith a 4M contract and Peppers a 3M one under the condition that if they do not have atleast a winning record by week 5 they will be traded. Carolina address the draft with several WR picks but only drafted one DE to replace Peppers, but with both these guys back Carolina's team looks a whole lot better.

With Marques Colston expected to be the sure start and report of Steve Smith meeting with coach Hardee, that leaves three positions left to be filled with seven, that’s right, SEVEN rookie WR competing for them. Antrel Golden, Chris Jordan, Jake London, Zack Bradford, Kris Reeves, lace w:st="on">Casperlace> Lloyd, and Bob Hudge.

Antrel Golden – Golden is a big, 6’4 210 WR. He ran a 4.37 in the 40 giving him an edge over most other big wide outs. There are some question marks about his hands, most scouts aren’t sure if he has the ability to be relied upon for 5-10 catches a game, luckly he wont have to be for several years.

Chris Jordan – lace w:st="on">Jordanlace>, slightly smaller than Golden, is in the same situation. Clocking a 4.39 in the combine. While not being able to use much of his height to an advantage, he is expect to be a big more reliable in terms of his hands.

Jake London – Another big WR at 6’4 and 214lbs, he doesn’t have the speed and acceleration as Golden nor the jump. While he is very physical I don’t see him making past the training camp cuts this year.

Zack Bradford – Bradford is one of the smaller WR drafted by lace w:st="on">Carolinalace> this year. 5’10 and 206lbs and he’s a step slower than most WRs his size. Unless he proves to be a promised possession WR I don’t suspect he’ll be much more than a 4^th/5^th WR.

Kris Reeves – Reeves arguably has the best college resume, and that’s not saying a whole lot. 6’4 206lbs Reeves add another tall WR to this set. There are questions around his toughness and his ability to play physical pro football.

It reportingly took him longer than most everyone else on his college team to learn their playbook and he struggled in the NFL IQ test. While also on the smaller WR category, which is not backed up by his speed, I don’t think he’ll get much further than a reserve WR role.

The entire lace w:st="on">Carolinalace> defensive tackles unit is made up of rookies. Last year their interior line was a huge weakspot and they look to fix this by using four draft picks solely for DTs, Patrick Lopez, Cory Freeman, Emmanuel Looman, and Marco Shelton.

Patrick Lopez – Lopez went under the radar for most teams, but not lace w:st="on">Carolinalace>. 6’2 290lbs he’s a small sized DT but has a freakish ability to blow through almost any guard or center. Another thing that makes him a great player is he’s a genius, he grabbed his Microbiology Degree this past spring and should have no problem learning the playbook. While it may take a few years for him to his expected caliber we should be seeing him up and ready by the start of the season.

Cory Freeman – Freeman is the ‘big’ DT Carolina picked up, having the 300+ pound frame for the job. He does lack in pure strength however, which is putting up concerns over his overall fitness. Freeman dominated in collage but I just don’t see that happening anytime soon in the next level.

Emmanuel Looman – Looman is my personal favorite. His small frame, 5’11 296lbs, pushed most scouts away but his ability to come off the line with force makes him a tough opponent for even the best NFL guards. While his game can/will be greatly improved I wouldn’t be surprised to see him suiting up for a start when it comes to Sunday.

Marco Shelton – Not much is known about lace w:st="on">Sheltonlace>, at 6’1 280lbs, he is also a smaller DT. One positive thing about him is he stays healthy. He hasn’t missed a game due to injury since his sophomore year in high school but he does get tired out a bit easier than most NFL DTs. I would expect him to serve a buck-up role if he makes the cut.
