A Newcomers Dynasty - The Falcons (HC 09)

For a long time I have followed the HC dynasties on here and wondered whether I could ever have the dedication needed to produce a Dynasty that is even half as good as some of the ones that our on here.

Sooooo I thought I would give it a go and we'll see how it turns out

Quick note on me: I'm not a hardcore football fan so expect me to make some pretty dumb moves to start off with.

    Anyway enjoy!

Ok... so I made my coach and picked one that looked absolutely nothing like me but oh well, appearances don't matter

I started in the off season because i felt that i wanted to shape this team to my liking.

I maxed out performance and am using both of the steelers playbooks as i prefer a blitzing style of play.

I've already done the entire off-season, pre-season and the first game of the regular season so i'll try to update you as best i can.

    Off - season coming next!

Before i go through this i'd thought i'd let u know that i am an impulsive buyer. So expect a lot of big signings.

So to start off with i cut the usual dead weight and proceeded to franchise tag noone.

I checked my cap space before continuing and realised that i had plenty of money to spend.

Here are a list of my signings:

      CB Marcus Trufant
      CB Asante Samuel
      ROLB Terrel Suggs
      C Jeff Faine
      RG Jake scott

Not as bad as i thought it was going to be and, at this point, i still had about 32million in cap space.

My targets going into the draft were QB, HB, SS, RT, DT and some linebacker depth.

        The Draft:

Round 1 Pick 3: I traded down here to the Ravens at 8
Round 1 Pick 7: I traded up here and selected ROLB Keith Rivers
Round 1 Pick 14: Don't know where this pick came from but i selected RT Jeff Otah

I can't remember exactly when i picked up the rest of these guys but they were as following:

        HB Ray Rice
        QB Brian Brohm
        RE Calais Campbell
        FB Carl Stewart
        SS Craig Steltz
        K Alexis Serna

Pretty good draft but i have no picks next year except a 7th rounder but I'm hoping that I've drafted enough talent to get me by for the next 2 years.

Okay so trainig camp came around and i managed to get everyone signed without too much difficulty. I had a coupke of holdouts but they soon saw that the offer i was offering them was the best one for them!

I simmed the pre season and just concentrated on getting everyone's knowledge up to a good enough level.

I went 1 - 3 in the pre season which is not a good omen.

N.B. I moved Suggs to MLB to partner Brooking.

          Roster next!

Re: A Newcomers Dynasty - The Falcons (HC 09)

Okay. First Game against the Lions. I promised to finish above .500 but before I'd even had my first gameplan my starting QB Brohm goes down with a pulled Hamstring and is out for 3 - 9 weeks. Great.

              Anyway Jim sorgi FTW!!!

              1st quarter
We get possession first off and on the first play from scrimmage Ray Rice runs it 28 yards for a nice first down. After that though the drive faltered and we were forced to punt.

We then continued to trade punts for the rest of the quarter. 0-0

              2nd quarter
This quarter was a lot better for me and we drove down the field with ease. We were rewarded for our efforts when Jim Sorgi found Roddy White in the endzone after a lovely play action pass. 7-0 Falcons

Our Defense then came up big with an interception return TD. Craig Steltz was the man who took it back and we were flying high. 14-0 Falcons

Detroit managed to get a late field goal. 14-3 Falcons

              3rd quarter
This quarter was a bad quarter for us the Lions offense really started going for it and started to get into a rhythm. Two field goals later and it was 14-9 Falcons.

              4th quarter
This quarter proved we have what it takes to hopefully get at least 10 wins this year. We started off well by going down the field and capping off the drive with another Sorgi TD pass. We went for two just to stretch our lead and managed to successfully convert it. 22-9 Falcons

At this point I was ready to crack open the champagne and celebrate my maiden victory as a Head Coach. Unfortunately the Lions had other plans. They marched down the field with ease gaining huge chunks of yardage at a time. Their drive ended with a Kevin Jones TD rush. 22-15 Falcons. The Lions went for 2 but my defense stubbornly held them back.

I had 4 minutes to last. A couple of first downs and we'll be out of here with the W, no problem. The CPU had other ideas though. A holding penalty followed by a 3 and out and I'd given the CPU a chance to tie it with less than 2 minutes remaining.

Luckily I had Craig Steltz on my team. An interception on their 20 yard sealed the win. I knocked over the field goal for good measure and thats how it finished. 25-17 Falcons!!

Ray Rice had a monster game rushing for 130+ yards and Craig steltz was named NFC Defensive player of the week with 7 tackles and 2 INT.

              Onto next week and Tampa....

I'll warn you if you are playing the games that the Falcons have a trainer with a rating of 1. I supersimmed the 1st season for this reason.

Re: A Newcomers Dynasty - The Falcons (HC 09)

WOW what a game!! Lets put it this way it was closer than expected...

If you read my previous posts you will have realised that Brohm is injured and that I was rolling with Sorgi. But the game decided that I shouldn't have any QB's and so Sorgi got injured the day after the Lions game.

So i needed a new QB and I decided to pick up the free agent Quinn Gray who has decent THP but lacks ACC.

                    Anyway onto the game..

                    1st Quarter
I won the toss and choose to receive. I presumed that because Tampa ran a cover 2 scheme I would be able to run the ball effectively. I was sadly wrong. First play Rice gets stuffed for a loss of 5. Second play Rice gets no gain. This compounded with a Gray sack and i thought we were going to get hammered.

However my defense was solid.. for a while. A sack gets my hopes up but they are soon dashed as the Bucs drive clinically down the field and finish it off with a TD pass off of a PA. 7-0 Bucs

Penalties and poor decision making by Gray leads to another 3 and out.

My defense then forces a fumble and recovers but it is challenged and overturned. The Bucs luckily do not capitalise.

                    2nd Quarter
This quarter I was simply dominant (I know suprising isn't it). I didn't pass the ball once on this drive and simply ran the ball from my 30 yard line to the endzone with a combination of Rice and Norwood. It was eventually Norwood who got the TD to tie the game. 7-7

My defense then goes into overdrive forcing a 3 and out. Keith rivers getting a superb sack.

However disaster strikes. Rice fumbles! To be fair it was a huge hit and i couldn't be mad at him although strangely he wanted me to be mad at him.

Anyway I could feel the momentum swinging towards Tampa as they got into the unstoppable 2 minute drill. Luckily Keith Rivers is a god. He picks it off from our 10 yard line and runs it back to midfield.

My offense takes heart from this and drives down the field to gives us a FG with 40 secs left in the half. We convert. 10-7 Falcons.

Unfortunately, Tampa got back into the unstoppable 2 minute drill groove and drove down the field leaving themselves just enough time to knock over a tying field goal. 10-10.

                    3rd Quarter
Nothing much happened this quarter. The Bucs got a TD off of blown coverage but this quarter almost seemed like the calm before the storm. 17-10 Bucs.

                    4th Quarter
This is where it started to go a bit crazy. Firstly Gray started completing passes and moving the ball down the field methodically. This resulted in another rush TD for Norwood. 17-17.

The Bucs next drive was one of mixed emotions for me. For the 1st 2 downs my defense would play brilliantly and the Bucs would be facing 3rd and 19 but then the Bucs would call a PA pass, everyone would fall for it, and they would gain 20+ yards. It was frustrating.

Then came the turning point. I'd been working on D-line pressure all week and decided that i should use one. The Bucs gave the ball to Earnest Graham who then got absolutely crushed by Keith Brooking. The ball popped loose and Brooking picked it up and raced 80 yards for the go ahead TD with 4:00 minutes left!! 24-17 Falcons.

My defense then forces them to punt. 2 first downs and i've got the W. UNfortunately my Offense picks the worst time to have a 3 and out and gives the ball straight back to tampa.

They march down the field in true 2 minute drill style and score a TD with no time left. 24-24. This game goes to OT.

                    OT
I win the toss and choose to receive.
I make a couple of gutsy 4th down calls and suddenly I'm on their 37.
Rice then ploughs straight up the middle for a gain of 12.
I QB sneak with Norwood and get to the 1. I knock the FG over and Falcons win!!!!!!! 27-24.

We are now 2-0. I will give you the stats in the next post. Thanks for reading!

Good wins. However, I would suggest switching Suggs and Brooking if you are running a 3-4. Suggs is a sack master.
