A new Dynasty to think about (Help)

So, been through many dynasties, and getting ready to find a challenge. Thought I'd put one up here for people's (and my own) enjoyment.

A note: Many of these dynasties people run tend to be similar year to year (everyone has Manningham, Serna, Woodson, etc - has the draft paths memorized, etc.) I couldn't tell you the difference in any draft paths, I skip those articles on here as best I can. I am planning on starting a dynasty that'll be a little different, that'll have players I have loved over the years...and I'm a big free agent guy, not so much a draft guy. I stay more invested in players who really exist for some reason - guess it makes me feel more connected...

But everyone's made dynasties (myself included) out of the Browns, Lions, Dolphins, Jets, Raiders, etc etc etc. And I don't want anyone to take that the wrong way - I love reading everyone's dynasties - I hope people will always keep making new dynasties....I just want to make one a little different. I hope some day they'll combine the best elements of the first head coach, and this one and add a few things (like keeping track of stats and records and such.)

So..now to think about a new challenge........

    thoughts?

I'm working on one right now. What I did was started as the Patriots, simmed season one (Made sure I did not get the Jack English draft class) and then leave the team afterwords. I try to join the lowest overall team (Normally Miami but sometimes others are close).

I have a set of house rules I'm using also.

    Dynasty Rules

    - Special Skills can only be purchased once per non-wildcard playoff appearance (Excluding one to begin with, Me Only).
    - No buying special skills for OC/DC unless no other option.
    - Special Skills must be offense/neutral or defense/neutral, mixing offense/defense special skills not allowed.
    - Skills/Special Skills can only be purchased during the off-season and after preseason.
    - Players must have been on the roster for one game last season to be traded away.
    - Must run a minimum of 10 run/pass plays in a game.
    - Must sign 1st round rookies to their desired contract.
    - Only allowed to trade down twice during the draft (Day 1&2 combined).
    - K/P cannot be traded.
    - GM/Trainer cannot be fired without Owner Suggestion.
    - OC/DC cannot be fired unless owner suggestion or after a Super Bowl win.
    - Position coaches must either be promoted or fired once overall hits 80+ and after a Super Bowl win.
    - Must meet highest demand for hiring staff.

If you have any other rule ideas let me know

Thats a great idea, about starting with the Pats. Gets rid of one of the coaches who never leaves
      NFL Head Coach-Atlanta Falcons Dynasty

      Just call me Sanchez

It also allows more options of teams to join since you'll finish in the playoffs.

I like some of those ground rules. I'll keep some of those in mind and add 'em to mine. I hate the thought of simming the first year - though it makes sense too. I might give it a go, kind of give it a 'first HC game' feel. ("leaving a great team to get your first HC gig") Honestly never simmed a first season before.

One of my biggest complaints about this game is that you take over a team, but you can't assemble a staff when you start your dynasty - you have to wait till the season end. That part of it makes me want to try the sim a season angle...Something to think about at work today!

The idea behind simming year one is so you can jump right into the offseason without knowing all the sleepers like the the Year One Draft.

But if you do that you'll run into a chance to be stuck with staff that they hired and you wont be able to fire any coaches. It adds challenge to it.

I sim the first season games just to get through them so I can get rid of the awful trainers that we get! I have tried to "play" the first season but it is too dang frustrating! But I see the benefits of playing...and of simming it.

No, you won't miss hiring them. You hire them after your season is over and the the owner decides to fire/retain you, assuming you don't retire. If you make it past the wild card round in the playoffs, teams will start hiring coaches and your selection to hire will be more limited. Super Bowl teams are usually lucky to hire 1 new coach.

Decided against simming the whole year...there are some vets and players out there I don't want to just "lose" a year with. Going through my FA now... lovin' it!

If you did it the way I did you would miss out on hiring some if not all.
