Wow. I'm really surprised with what you did in that offseason. Lots of free agent signings and trades coupled with only two picks in the draft (that you basically aced lol) makes this a VERY interesting franchise to follow later on. Hopefully the Cap won't come back to bite you in the future, but I really appreciate how you didn't select Josh Johnson or Woodson so you can "cheat" your way to a successful first year. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the kind words. I'm trying something a little different this time around, adjusting the sliders as I go to keep it interesting and realistic.

Thanks! I liked something Aurabolt had talked about in one of his posts about trying to stick to known guys, and will probably try to do that instead of just reloading on rookies each year.

As far as the draft, The Raiders start out with only a few picks, so after trading most of those away getting LG Brandon Albert (especially with Al making the call) was great. He's a great player, who I typically don't get because he goes too high. As far as K Brandon Coutu goes...well he sucks, but what can you expect for a 7th rounder. Could of got Serna there, or as an undrafted rookie, but stuck to the house rules.

Kind of shocked by the guys who went undrafted that I had to pass on due to my house rules.

            HB Jamaal Buckingham
            HB Xavier Omon
            LG David Hale
            RE Eric Baker
            RE Tony Bake
            DT Darrell Longbottom
            DT Hank Smithers
            CB Jonathon Wilhite
            FS Josh Barrett
            K Alexis Serna

Overall pretty pleased with the flavor of this dynasty. Keep following.

NFL News: Familiar Faces in New Places

A quick look at some of the new offensive starters around the league.

                QB

BUF QB Daunte Culpepper takes the reins for Trent Edwards. Coach Jauron was never sold on Edwards, so when the opportunity came up in Free Agency to grab Culpepper he did.

ATL QB Trent Green got a 1yr deal in Free Agency and is serving as the starter/mentor for 1st round pick QB Matt Ryan.

GB QB Joey Harrington signed as a Free Agent beats out QB Aaron Rodgers and rookie QB Brian Brohm to get the starting job for the Packers.

CAR QB Matt Moore takes over for an injured Jake Delhomme who will miss the entire 2008 season.

OAK QB Ken Dorsey acquired by trade in the off-season becomes the starter when fromer #1 pick QB JaMarcus Russell gets arrested and released. Many felt that backup QB Andrew Walter should have gotten a shot at the starting job, but Coach Joslin seems happy with the more accurate Dorsey.

                HB

CHI HB Michael Pittman a forgotton man in free agency, get invited to training camp by the Bears and ends up winning the starting spot ahead of incumbent Cedric Benson and rookie Jonathon Stewart.

DEN HB Julius Jones signs an incentive laden 2yr deal to be a backup for the Broncos and ends up beating out Selvin Young for the starting job. Many outside the organization were confused by the choice of Jones as the starter as Young seems to be more talented.

TB HB Shaun Alexander leaves Seattle for Tampa Bay in Free Agency and takes over at HB.

DAL rookie HB Ray Rice beat out 1st round draft pick Felix Jones and training camp invitee Deshaun Foster to win the starting spot for the Cowboys.

ATL HB Michael Turner earned the big bucks in Free Agency to be the starter for the Falcons.

DET HB Warrick Dunn. Acquired in Free Agency, Dunn was the projected starter from day 1 facing little competition from Aaron Stecker and Brian Calhoun.

NE HB Laurence Maroney remains the starter, while 1st round pick Darren McFadden rides the bench. Many think that McFadden is the better player.

BAL HB P J Daniels starts in Baltimore. That's right, PJ Daniels is the starter. Daniels beat out rookie Steve Slaton and free agent Jason Snelling to be the #1 guy. The Ravens arguably have the worst HB's in the league this year.

NO HB Marion Barber. The Saints felt the restricted free agent was worth it and pried him away from Dallas with a 5yr $34M deal. Barber takes over for former 1st round pick Reggie Bush who now serves as a backup.

SEA HB Maurice Morris gets the start ahead of the more talented rookie HB Jamaal Charles

HOU HB Travis Henry was aquired in free agency to be the Texans starter.

                WR

BUF rookie WR Donnie Avery gets the spot opposite WR Lee Evans

KC WR Bam Childress gets the starting spot opposite WR Dwayne Bowe

MIA WR Donte Stallworth was brought in during free agency to be the #1 guy in Miami

PHI undrafted rookie training camp invitee WR Roscoe Carry plays opposite WR Reggie Brown

SF paid the big bucks to get starters WR DJ Hackett and WR Isaac Bruce in free agency.

JAX rookie WR Malcolm Kelly earns the starting spot opposite WR Reggie Williams

OAK WR David Tyree was acquired in a trade to challenge WR Ronald Curry for the #1 spot and won it, but got injured opening the door for undrafted rookie WR Kevin Robinson to start.

NO rookie WR Eddie Royal won the spot opposite WR Marques Colston.

HOU WR Jerry Porter was brought as a free agent to take some of the pressure off WR Andre Johnson

TEN WR Javon Walker signed in Free Agency to be their #1 guy.

MIN WR Darrell Jackson signed in Free Agency won the top spot in training camp, beating out the arguably more talented Sidney Rice.

                  Week 3

                  Raiders (2-0) @ Bills (1-1)

                  1st Quarter

The Bills start the game off by moving down the field with ease. Free agent QB Daunte Culpepper can do no wrong. The Raiders finally start playing some defense in the redzone and force a 4th and GL at the 5yd line. Buffalo K, Rian Lindell kicks the 22yd FG.

                  BUF 3 OAK 0

A 3 and out gives the ball back to Buffalo, and a good punt return sets up a TD pass from QB Daunte Culpepper to TE Robert Royal.

                  BUF 10 OAK 0

                  2nd Quarter

QB Ken Dorsey gets the Raiders back into this one when he finds WR Ronald Curry in the back of the end zone for a 18yd TD

                  BUF 10 OAK 7

The Raiders defense knocks QB Daunte Culpepper out of the game and forces the punt and then the offense runs down the field to add another TD when HB Justin Fargas goes in from 8yds out.

                  BUF 10 OAK 14

Oakland is driving for another score when BUF CB Terrence McGee jumps the route and grabs the interception. With no one in front of him, he goes 72yds for the TD

                  BUF 17 OAK 14

With the half almost over, the Raiders go into their 2 minute drill and move down the field as seconds dwindle. With 11 seconds on the clock, QB Dorsey finds WR Curry for another TD.

BUF 17 OAK 21 at the half

                  3rd Quarter

BUF QB Daunte Culpepper returns to the game, but seems shaken.
OAK HB Justin Fargas runs the counter and goes 17yds for a TD

                  BUF 17 OAK 28

                  4th Quarter

Buffalo gets to the 1yd line, but the Raiders throw them back on 1st down. 2nd and GL from the 3. The Bills pitch the ball to Marshawn Lynch 2yd gain before he's pulled down. 3rd and GL from the 1. Raiders MLB Akin Ayodele busts through the middle and sacks QB Daunte Culpepper for a 4yd loss. 4th and GL from the 5. The Bills settle for 3 on a K Rian Lindell FG

                  BUF 20 OAK 28

The Raiders add another Dorsey to Curry TD to put this one out of reach.

                  BUF 20 OAK 35

The Bills can't get anything going and rather than go for it on 4th, punt the ball away. Oakland runs the ball to take time off the clock, but when faced with a 3rd and 8 they call for the pass to get the first down and keep possession. They get more than that when WR Ronald Curry gets past his man, makes the catch and goes 41yds for another TD. His 4th of the game.

                  BUF 20 OAK 42

The Bills move the ball, but sputted and end up turning the ball over on downs. OAK QB Ken Dorsey takes a knee three times to run out what time is left on the clock.

                  BUF 20 OAK 42 Final

                  Key Performers:

OAK QB Ken Dorsey 21/23 for 306yds 4 TDs, Int

                      Week 4

                      Chargers (3-0) @ Raiders (3-0)

(First big challenge since modifying (reducing) the User Defensive Sliders)

                      1st Quarter

Neither team can manage to score.

                      2nd Quarter

A blown coverage leaves WR Chris Chambers wide open and with no one in front of him he goes 48yds for the TD on the pass from SD QB Phillip Rivers.

                      SD 7 OAK 0

                      3rd Quarter

The Chargers defense won't allow the Raiders to get anything going and their offense looks to build on their lead. QB Phillip Rivers throws his team down the field, but they get stopped at the goal line and are opt for the 22yd FG by K Nate Kaeding.

                      SD 10 OAK 0

                      4th Quarter

OAK HB Justin Fargas injuries his leg and has to leave the game for x-rays. Former Patriots HB Kevin Faulk steps in and after some percision passing by QB Ken Dorsey runs for a 3yd TD.

                      SD 10 OAK 7

An interception by CB Nnamdi Asomugha in the redzone kills another SD drive and gives the Raiders the ball back with 3 minutes in the game. The Raiders go into their 2 minute drill and dink and dunk their way down the field. As time ticks off the clock, HB Kevin Faulk takes it on the counter and breaks free going 23yds for the TD.

                      SD 10 OAK 14

San Diego has less than a minute on the clock, but Phillip Rivers manages to get them to mid field before they are faced with a 4th and 8. San Diego coach Norv Turner sends in the Punter. What? Coach Joslin calls for regular defense thinking the Chargers have to be running a fake...down by 4, with 8 yards to go to give them a chance to keep playing. It isn't a fake. The Chargers down the ball inside the 10yd line, as no Raiders dropped back to cover the kick. OAK QB Ken Dorsey takes a knee to end the game.

SD 10 OAK 14 Final- Raiders Win!

                      Key Performers

OAK QB Ken Dorsey 20/30 for 297, Int
SD QB Phillip Rivers 10/21 for 192yds, TD , Int

OAK HB Kevin Faulk 13 carries for 72yds, 2 TDs
SD HB LaDanian Tomlinson 18 carries for 32yds

OAK WR Kevin Robinson (R) 5 receptions for 82yds
SD WR Chris Chambers 5 receptions for 93yds TD

SD OLB S. Cooper 10 tackles, 7 TFL, 4 sacks
OAK CB Nnamdi Asomugha 4 tackles, TFL, Int

Time of Possession: San Diego 20:46/39:12 Oakland

The Raiders have a bye week in week 5 and are hoping to resign some of their key players.

P Shane Lechler extends his deal with the Raiders, signing a 3yr contract worth $4.9M with a $500K bonus, no incentives- This is more than Coach Joslin likes to pay a kicker, but Lechler is currently acting as both the kicker and punter for the Raiders. Coach Joslin is unsatified with rookie K Brandon Coutu and will likely release him at the end of the season.

CB Nnamdi Asomugha unhappy about being Franchised gets a long term deal. The deal is said to be a 6yr deal worth $40.6M with a $8M signing bonus.

Undrafted Rookie OLB Barry Red gets a one year extension and a little bump in his salary this year, going from making $290K this year to a 2yr deal worth $700k

OLB Sam Williams agrees to a 2yr deal worth $1.3M. Williams contract also includes incentives of $1M if Williams starts all 16 games, and $1M if he gets 50 tackles in a season.

When asked about the incentives, Coach Joslin had this to say, "I don't like incentive laden deals, it messes with the salary cap, but in this case it was a real sticking point. I wanted Sam back and while we don't see him in a starting role, if he should win the spot then the bonuses will make his pay in line with other starters around the league. If he doesn't become a starter, he isn't likely to make the incentives...so they don't hurt us."

QB Ken Dorsey has shown he can be a starter in this league, winning his first 4 games with the Raiders, and he gets rewarded with a long term deal. Dorsey signs a 5yr deal worth $34M with an $8M bonus. Pretty good for a guy on the verge of being cut by the Browns. Now that he's got the money, he's got to show he deserves it.

Undrafted rookie WR Kevin Robinson had a breakout game last week and feels like he should be getting a major pay raise. Coach Joslin agrees he deserves a raise, but they couldn't quite find a common ground on how much that should be. Robinson is reportedly seeking around $5M on a 3 year deal, while Coach Joslin feels that a deal that pays the rookie less than $1M a year is more reasonable for an unproven talent. They will undoubtedly meet again later in the season to try to work out a deal.

Backup C Alex Stepanovich agreed to extend his deal another year signing a 2yr contract worth $800K

Backups RG Chris Terry and training camp free agent rookie C John Sullivan both met with Raiders management, but couldn't come to terms on deals.

undrafted rookie free agent DE Chase Ortiz got a major payday when then the Raiders agreed to a 2yr deal woth $2.4M. That means Ortiz gets an almost $750K pay raise this season!

MLB Ricky Brown's agent called the team about working out a new deal, but his calls were not returned. Odds are good that Brown will not be resigned.

converted CB, FS Chris Johnson met with team officials but was unable to get a new deal. The Raiders would like to keep Johnson as security at the FS position, but aren't willing to break the bank on a backup.

undrafted rookie free agent WR Marcus Monk signed a 2yr deal worth $520K in effect taking a $70K pay cut to get another year added to his deal.

Overall pretty pleased with the flavor of this dynasty. Keep following.
Only Serna is a long term solution. The rest are 1-2 year stop gaps at best

I agree that Serna is definitely the cream of that crop, but I've gotten long careers out of LG David Hale, RE Tony Bake, RE Eric Baker (used only as a situational pass rusher) and DT Hank Smithers.
