Climbing the Ladder: The Career of Tim Dunn (CH2K8)

I'm coach Tim Dunn, the new coach of the UT Martin men's basketball team. Throughout my career I will be posting in this blog my thoughts about the team and recruits. In this first post I will talk about my coaching style, this season's starting rotation and this year's schedule.

As a coach I prefer to play an uptempo game. I model my style after Nolan Richardson's "40 minutes of hell." My team presses on every inbound pass, plays tight pressure defense and likes to get out and run in transition. In the half-court I run a fast paced dribble drive motion offense that requires athletic guards capable of attacking the rim, perimeter players that can shoot on the kick out and big men that can get offensive boards. I prefer to play with 9 players receiving the bulk of the minutes, although I usually allocate at least a couple minutes to every player.

This table shows the rotation I will be using this season, at least at the beginning.

    Rotation
    #NAMEPOSAGEHTWTSALARY
    2Femi ToppertPGJR6'1"180 lbs.27 minutes
    34Collis RothseidenSGJR (RS)6'5"210 lbs.30 minutes

    21Brent GosleyPFJR6'6"235 lbs.27 minutes
    3Kim EppenheimerPFSR6'9"230 lbs.30 minutes
    4Sammy HaileyPGFR6'1"185 lbs.21 minutes
    33Bruno ZwikkerPFJR6'8"220 lbs.15 minutes
    25Adenilson JonesPFFR6'7"235 lbs.11 minutes
    22Shane BradfordSGSO (RS)6'2"180 lbs.8 minutes
    10Matt RickertPGFR6'2"180 lbs.2 minutes
    1Timmy LovelaceSGFR6'5"215 lbs.2 minutes

The team lacks a true center, and only one player is taller than 6'8". Kim Eppenheimer will be forced to match up against the opponent's center. Offensively Kim is skilled, he is able to make shots all the way out to three point range as well as bringing a solid post game. He will be expected to share the scoring load with Collis Rothseiden. Collis is a good all-around player. He is a solid shooter, can attack the rim and throw it down and is a solid on-ball defender.

While Collis and Kim will be the primary players on offense other players will have roles to fill. Shane Bradford is the best shooter on the team and will be expected to make shots and stretch the defense when he is on the court. Adenilson Jones and Bruno Zwikker are both capable rebounders and should bring away a few extra possessions. The rest of the team is capable at their positions, but none possess skills that make them anything more than role players.

The schedule features a few notable non-conference games. The season opens with a date against #3 Memphis in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic. There are also dates at Mississippi State, UNLV and Vanderbilt. The conference schedule begins on December 8 with a home game against Jacksonville State.

I hope you continue to follow the UT Martin basketball team as we strive to make a Final Four and win a National Title.
