Tony LaRussa was ejected from the game in the 2nd inning after argueing a questionable call at 1st base.

            vs.

Astros suffer more than one loss in one game

            Win: Mark Mulder (1-0)
            Loss: Roger Clemens (0-1)
            Save: ---
            Homeruns: STL: Jim Edmonds (1), Mark Grudzielanek 3 (1, 2, 3) HOU: ---
            RBIs: STL: Scott Rolen (1), Jim Edmonds 2 (1, 2), Mark Grudzielanek 3 (1, 2, 3) HOU: Jeff Bagwell (1), Brad Ausmus (1), Adam Everett (1)

            Player of the Game

Hitting three home runs and driving in three runs, Mark Grudzielanek is the EA Sports Player of the Game. He completely ripped apart Astro pitching and was a pain on the basepaths stealing two bases in key situations.

            Game Notes
If it wasn't bad enough that the Astros were beaten by their bitter rivals today, one of the most loved long-time Astros has been bitten by the injury bug, badly at that. Jeff Bagwell, while diving for a line drive hit down the line, fractured his right elbow and is out for the season. In turn, Bagwell has decided to hang up his cleats and retire. The fans, his teammates, and all of baseball will sorely miss Bags.

            Reggie Sanders: 4/5 3B
            Mark Grudzielanek: 4/5 3 HR, 3 RBI
            Yadier Molina: 0/3 2 Ks

              Breaking News

In an attempt to fill the void in the lineup, GM Tim Purpura announced that the Astros sent Luke Scott and Jose Vizcaino to the Chicago White Sox for Aaron Rowand. Rowand will now play RF and Lance Berkman will move to 1st base. The lineup will now be...

              1. Taveras
              2. Biggio
              3. Rowand
              4. Berkman
              5. Lane
              6. Ensberg
              7. Ausmus
              8. Everett
              9. Pitcher

"Aaron will fit perfectly in the scheme of things here in Houston," said Purpura. "The way he plays the game goes right along with the way we like to play."

Only two games into the season, Rowand is batting .167 with 0 HR and 0 RBIs.

The Astros purchased 2B/UTIL Chris Burke's contract from the Round Rock Express. And signed Omar Daal to a 1-year 3.00M contract for spot starts and bullpen help.

                Game 1 of 3:Cincinatti @ Houston
                Minute Maid Park

                vs.

Pettitte gets absolutely rocked by the Cincinatti Reds, 13-2

                Win: A. Harang (1-0)
                Loss: A. Pettitte (0-1)
                Save: ---
                Homeruns: CIN: D. Jimenez 2 (2, 3), S. Casey (2), K. Griffey Jr. (2), J. LaRue (1) HOU: ---
                RBIs: CIN: D. Jimenez 2 (3,4), F. Lopez (4), S. Casey (3), K. Griffey Jr. 2 (3,4), J. Randa (2), J. LaRue 3 (3, 4, 5), B. Weber (1) HOU: A. Rowand (1), Adam Everett (2)

Behind the bat of DeAngelo Jimenez, the Cincinatti Reds completely crushed the Houston Astros.

On the very first pitch of the game, Jimenez hit a home run to right field as Houston's newest acquisition, Aaron Rowand, watched the 412 foot ball sail over his head.

The Astros' first run came in the 4th inning when Berkman led off with a triple to dead center as Griffey Jr. attempted to dive for it, but misjudged the ball. Then, Rowand hit a single to score the run.

Pettitte appeared to not have anything all game, but after every inning he was asked whether he would like to stay in the game and feverently insisted on being kept in the game.

In the next game, the pitching match-up is Brandon Backe (0-0) and Brandon Claussen (0-0).

                  Re: Houston Astros (MVP 2005)

I was mad at the last game I played against the Reds, so I quickly exited the game, but I do remember some of the stats.

Backe went 6 IP, not giving up a run. Astros up 3-0 going into the 7th inning. John Franco comes into pitch and gives up 1 run, a home run to Casey. Then, in the 8th inning, all hell breaks lose as Dan Wheeler walks 3 people and then allows Adam Dunn to hit a base clearing double. Reds 4-3. The Astros couldn't get anything going in the bottom of the 8th. The Reds add two more runs in the top of the 9th and the Astros, once again, had no production in the bottom of the inning.
