Rockies Rip Alfonseca; Score 6 Runs in 12th For 5th Straight Win
Miami, FL - What a game. Through 6 innings, it was a pitchers dual like none other. Jeff Francis had a one hitter working, the one hit being a inside the park homer to the deepest part of Dolphins Stadium right over Preston Wilson's head.
After the Rockies came back with 2 runs in the top of the 7th, it looked like the Rockies might be able to hold it. Instead, the manager left Francis in the game only to give up his other two hits of the game, back to back homers to give the Marlins the lead back at 3-2.
To the top of the 9th we go, one out with Dustin Mohr to the plate. A double down the right field line to start the rally. Miles with an infield single that moved Mohr to 3rd. Greene, who replaced Closser earlier in the game ripped a base hit to left field to tie the game at 3-3. Pinch hitter Hawpe flew out, still leaving 1st and 3rd. With Barmes up, a chopper right over Riedling's head but Delgado was able to grab it and flip to 1st just in time, or it would've been 4-3.
After a few close calls in the 9th and 10th, we end up in the top of the 12th. Jeff Baker, who was pinch hitting for Javier Lopez, rips the first pitch to right field to start it off. Barmes would then step to the plate, 0 for 6 at the time, and singled in Baker. Gonzalez with another single, to make it first and second. Helton would then drive in Barmes on a single to make it 5-3. With 1st and 2nd, Preston Wilson would step to the plate 0 for 5 on the day but that would all change with the swing of the bat....3 RUN SHOT to make it 8-3. After a Holliday out, Mohr would come to the plate and with one swing, made it 9-3 Rockies. All in all, the Rockies had 11 batters in the 12th, including 5 singles, a double and 2 home runs. Baker, who lead off with a double, also had a single in the inning.
