    LSU Tigers (NCAA 06)

    LOL....okay, first off:

^^^That pretty much sums me up when it comes to the Dynasty HQ forum.

Anywayyyy...at least I finished the season with Penn State, and I appreciate everyone's great comments about my dynasties. I also appreciate your patience when I start a new one. I truly hope for this one to last more than one or even two seasons. Whatever it takes to keep my readers happy. Thanks!

Usual stuff, 8:00 quarters, Playmakers' sliders, BL's roster...preview and such coming up!

      2005 LSU Tigers

      Down in the Bayou
      2005 Season Preview
      Volume 1, Issue 1

Bayou Bengals hope to be smelling like Roses in 05

BATON ROUGE, LA- Few times do you see a coach walk into a friendlier situation.

But that's what's happening in the deep south at LSU, as little-known Brian Kudron takes over the team Nick Saban left behind for the NFL. And it's a team that is a ready-made title contender.

On offense, the weapons are endless. The running back position is stacked with Alley Broussard, Joseph Addai and Justin Vincent. They will all see time in one form or another, as LSU ranked 20th in rushing offense nationally last season. At Wide Receiver, the Tigers have some burners. Skyler Green is the main man, followed closely by Craig Davis and Dwayne Bowe. Sophomore scorcher Xavier Carter also will be involved.

The offensive line is anchored by towering left tackle Andrew Whitworth, a serious Outland Award candidate. Although Center Ben Wilkerson is gone, Rudy Niswanger is a senior with experience.

The offense cannot go however, without a good QB, and that is where controversy lies with LSU. Matt Flynn is planted firmly at #3 on the depth chart, but the #1 spot is a battle. Redshirt Sophomore JaMarcus Russell threw for 1053 yards, 9 TDs and 4 INTs last year, splitting time with the graduated Marcus Randall. However, Russell may be supplanted by super recruit, Ryan Perrilloux. Perrilloux was thought to be a lock for Texas, but came to the Bayou at the last second, and his cannon of an arm and his mobility may make him the starter. However, Coach Kudron has said he may go the Steve Spurrier route, and rotate the young signal callers.

The defense has a bit of rebuilding to do. On the defensive line, they lose All-American end Marcus Spears to the NFL, but they still tout one of the nation's best. DT Kyle Williams is the best of the group; he had 6 sacks last year.

The linebacking corp loses Lionel Turner, but Cameron Vaughn can adaquately step in. Vaughn was 4th on the team last year with 63 total tackles.

The secondary takes a hit, losing All-American cornerback Corey Webster, and his fellow CB Travis Daniels. But Ronnie Prude has experience under his belt, and one of the nation's best safeties returns in Junior LaRon Landry. Landry led LSU in tackles (92) and interceptions last season (4). SS Jessie Daniels also is back for his junior year; he had 64 tackles and 3 picks last year.

Chris Jackson handles both the placekicking and punting, and with burners like Skyler Green and Xavier Carter returning kicks, LSU's special teams are top notch.

The Tigers open with North Texas, and then welcome Arizona State of the Pac-10 to Death Valley. Their first huge test is on September 24th, as supremely-talented Tennessee comes calling to Tiger Stadium. Other pitfalls include Florida and Auburn in back to back weeks in October, and a trip to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama in November.

Offense goes wild in opener as Tigers roll

BATON ROUGE, LA- Most people say the strategy for rotating quarterbacks can't be successful.

LSU is trying their best to prove them wrong.

The Tigers' offense was explosive, and they scored three times on special teams, cruising to a season opening 69-7 route of North Texas.

Despite their low completion percentage, the LSU QBs were effective. JaMarcus Russell was 6-13 for 106 yards and 2 TD, and freshman Ryan Perrilloux was 7-14 for 194 yards, a TD, and INT and a rushing TD. Joseph Addai led LSU in rushing with 15 carries for 118 yards and a TD. Early Doucet had 4 receptions for 69 yards, tight end David Jones had 3 receptions for 44 yards and two TDs, and Craig Davis caught 2 passes for 42 yards and a score. Skyler Green had one reception for 34 yards, and 2 punt returns for TDs. Xavier Carter added an 86 yard PR TD, and an 80 yard reception.

Joey Vyerly was 6-13 for 81 yards and 2 interceptions for North Texas. Patrick Cobbs was efficient, carrying 19 times for 83 yards and a TD, but sophomore Jamario Thomas had only 10 yards on 14 carries. He led UNT in 2 receptions for 34 yards.

Claude Wroten and E.J. Kuale each had 8 tackles for LSU. Kuale also had a sack and an interception. Chase Pittman had 7 tackles and THREE sacks. LaRon Landry and Cameron Vaughn each had five tackles.

Deavin Cox led UNT in tackles with eight. CB T.J. Covington had 7 tackles and a sack, and Cliff Higgs had 4 tackles and a pick.

LSU hosts Arizona State of the Pac-10 next week. ASU lost their opener in stunning blowout fashion to Temple at home.

THE GREAT ESCAPE: Tigers pull a miracle to stun ASU

BATON ROUGE, LA- Last year, LSU escaped Oregon State in Overtime 22-21 due to 3 missed PATs by the Beavers.

This time vs. a Pac-10 foe, they survived a costly turnover, and used their opportunistic defense to stun the Sun Devils of Arizona State, 44-38 in overtime.

Early in the second half it seemed like LSU was on their way to another blowout, as Skyler Green's dazzling 89-yard PR TD put the Tigers ahead 31-10. ASU roared back though with a long fumble return TD (on offense), a TD off a turnover, and a defensive TD seconds later to tie the game at 31 after three. Very early in the fourth the Devils took a 38-31 lead on a 72 yard TD on a punt return.

When LSU took over with about 5:00 to go, they began to drive. They converted five 3rd downs on the drive, and freshman QB Ryan Perrilloux's feet got them deep in ASU's territory, when suddenly, on another 3rd down, Perrilloux was stopped short, and he lost the ball. ASU's sideline exploded in celebration. LSU did have all their timeouts, but only 24 seconds left. However, Sun Devil tailback Rudy Burgess had the ball torn from his arms by Cameron Vaughn on ASU's first play, and Ken Hollis dove on it. Two plays later, sophomore JaMarcus Russell threw a 15 yard touchdown to Dwayne Bowe with 15 seconds left. On ASU's last gasp hail mary, LaRon Landry picked it off.

Then, on ASU's first play of overtime, DT Kyle Williams tore through the line and drilled QB Sam Keller as he threw it, and the ball landed in LB E.J. Kuale's hands. Two plays later, running back Alley Broussard burst through the line, dashed through the middle and was tripped--but not before crossing the goalline to give LSU the win.

Perrilloux finished the game 10-16 for 161 yards with an INT. Russell was only 8-20 for 80 yards, but he did throw three TDs along with an INT. Both Broussard and Joseph Addai went over 100 yards rushing, with Broussard gaining 113 and a TD, and Addai adding 123 and a score. There were no standout receivers for LSU, as everyone contributed. Craig Davis led LSU with 4 receptions, and he, Early Doucet and Dwayne Bowe each caught a TD.

Keller was 18-43 for ASU for 314 yards for 2 TDs and 3 INTs. ASU didn't even try to run, and sacks put them at -31 yards. Star WR Derek Hagan caught 3 passes for 110 yards and a pair of TDs. Terry Richardson had 4 receptions for 81 yards, and TE Zach Miller had 4 for 68.

Cameron Vaughn led LSU with 5 tackles and the game saving forced fumble. Chase Pittman had 4 tackles and 2 sacks. Landry, Kuale and Melvin Oilver each had an INT.

Robert James led the Sun Devils with 12 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and a 32 yard fumble return for a TD. Josh Golden had 6 tackles and an INT, and Will Kofe had 6 stops and 2 sacks.

LSU has a bye week next week to recover from this thriller, before #2 Tennessee invades Death Valley to take on the Tigers.
